  1. Ok, a) I'll admit, my comment about Pashke's knowlege of baseball was maybe slightly unfounded. Since he never really expounded on baseball other than calling out stats and doing play by play, I guess I don't really know. I guess (wrong or right) I just always viewed him as a local plaid coat type sportscaster that lucked into the Brewer announcing job. I guess I have never been a big fan of local network affiliate sportscasters. b) Yes, it was amazing that they never mentioned the no-hitter. Although, it was a different time. Cable and ESPN were in it's infancy. Now, just about any night, you can flip through the channels and catch several sporting events. That wasn't true back then. Also, remote controls were also not as common and/or as sophisticated back then (previoius channel button). The casual fan tends to surf the channels now. He or she might stop on a baseball game for an inning or two and then flip to something else. The announcers are aware of this and know that they need to make mention that something special is happening to keep the viewers attention. I'm not saying that I was Sutton's biggest fan. He was not critical enough for me. I also don't like the announcer who has to constantly remind the fans how much he knows about baseball like Tim McCarver. To me, Jim Powell is the ultimate announcer. Knowledgeable, not too much of a cheer leader, has excitement in his voice, and has a sense of humor (you have to when your sitting next to Uecker for 162 games).
  2. I think that would be more important if it were a radio broadcast. I can see everything that is happening...I don't need it described in detail. I don't think they are "concentrating on describing the action" anyways. I think they don't have enough personality to stray from there notes and stats or to stray from just describing exactly what's happening on the field. If that's what you want in an announcer for a game on TV, why not just turn the sound down, because they are not really saying anything that you can't see for yourself. Sorry, I like a little humor and excitement when it comes to TV announcers.
  3. People are always talking about how they loved Hegan and Pashke. I never could stand them.....boring. Pashke had limited knowledge of baseball.
  4. I don't think it's Selig...could be wrong. Also, Yes the players are skinnier than the current MLB player, but I think the uniforms had something to do with that apperance as well. They tend to wear them a little baggier these days.
  5. I don't know if anyone is watching this game...but three coments I have so far as I watch this game. 1) It's a windy night. Did you see how Murray caught the popup in the first inning. He had a little trouble with the wind blowing it around. This may explain why Yount dives for the last catch, even though he may not have had to. 2) I didn't remember's J. Paciorik's great catch in the 2nd (?). That was definitly a neccesary dive and a no-hitter saver. 3) What's up with the American flag in CF? There are only like 15 stars on it??!?
  6. I think Suppan and Zito are both trying to be the last one standing, hoping that will up their value.
  7. I don't see how Suppan signs for any less than Meche. He will end up getting at least $11mil/per..and will probably end up in the $45mil - to $50mil for 4 years.
  8. I don't want to change the direction of this thread . However, Brian, here are the links I was referring too... forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?t=13616.topic forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?t=13570.topic forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?t=13581.topic Here's another one that didn't involve the Brewers but might be constituted as "rumor" forum type material: forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?t=13529.topic
  9. I started a thread about this in the Major Leagues forum. I didn't realize that there was also a thread about it in this forum, so obviously it was locked. Sorry if I stepped on anyones toes, but I usually don't visit this forum because it's it tends to get filled with a lot of "wishes" rather than actual substatiated "rumors". Here is what Brian stated when we locked the thread... I don't want to come off sounding like a jerk, but I guess I would just like a little more clarification. There seems to be a lot of "rumor" type threads in the ML forum. For example the Lieber, Burrell and R. Lopez threads. How are those "rumors" different from the Suppan "rumor"? The Brewers didn't "complete" a deal with either of those guys. Don't jump on me...I just want to be clear for future postings.
  10. Because this is a rumor right now, it won't happen as stated. Maybe the Brewers and Phillies will make a trade and maybe some, all, or none of these players that are mentioned will be involved, but I doubt it would go down exactly as stated in Rotoworld. I can't remember the last time a trade went down exactly as rumored (I'm sure someone will bring up several examples now). If it did go down like this, I would be somewhat dissapointed, unless the Phillies ate some of Lieber's contract. I keep waiting for Turnbow to test positive for Steroids. I know that this was under the very stringent Olympic comittee standards, but does anyone remember this?: http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/news/040107turnbow.html I mean, hey, Mongo has no neck...it's just a hunch.
  11. Anybody notice on CBS sportsline that the Brewers are only one of three teams that are not mentioned in the "rumor mill" section? Although Clark is mentioned under the Rockies rumors and Mench is mentioned under the Orioles rumors. Oh...they did have Doug Melvin on MLB radio (on XM) this morning. He did not say anything earth shattering other than they would like to give Hall a look in the OF and they are making efforts to sign Grafi. Of course Mark Patrick reffered to Melvin as the Brewer skipper before cutting to the interview. Typical east coast type reporting.
  12. Yeah...I can't see them trading there best pitcher for a backup quality CF. Unless it involved more players. Looking at the rockies, hard to find other places where they would need help. Maybe 2nd base, but how can the Brewers help them there...other than trading Weeks...I wouldn't want that to happen. Perhaps if the brewers through in a prospect or two...along the lines of someone like Parra maybe? I predict that Jennings will be on the opening day roster for the Rockies and they will trade him before the deadline (unless they are in the race) if they don't workout a long term contract.
  13. Put the radar in motion...doesn't look nearly as promising.. Weather link Edit: Link tooooooo long. -Toby
  14. Just got back from the game too. I'm going to take a guess that that in the next day or two you are going to read that Claussen was tipping his pitches. It certainly seemed like the Brewers knew what he was going to throw on every pitch...it was like batting practice. Never seen anything like it. Oh..and we were the Kohls family of the game...$250 gift certificate! Great day.
  15. Thanks for the info. Yeah, the name of that Beatles song is called "The End". A couple of years ago, they did a profile of the guy who did that jingle (and other jingles for Milwaukee companies..I think he also did Golden Gurnsey and Midwest Express, among others) on Fox 6 news. When, I saw the piece, I thought, wait a second, that's a Beatles song, how does he get credit for it? So, I sent him an e-mail asking him about it. He sent an e-mail back with a long explanation about how even though it's from the beatles what he did for the Brewers would be considered his own composition...didn't really understand..
  16. I know that there are not many spring games left, but does anyone know where I can get a schedule of the spring games that are on wtmj 620? Does anyone know if they will be on the radio (wtmj, not xm or web cast) on Friday?
  17. I don't really get all the enthusiasm over Rivera. Ok, I realize that Moeller is a horrible hitter and an average defensive catcher at best. Rivera is 30 years old and has 2 dingers in roughly 200 MLB abs. I look at his ML stats and it appears that he was back up or platoon catcher in the minors (rarely had more than 250abs). Ok, maybe he's better defensively, but is anyone else a little depressed that this is the best the Brewers can find for a back up catcher. A 30 year old former back up catcher in the minors? I realize catching in the majors is thin, but come on. If these are the options, the Brewers need to play Miller at least 80% -85% of the time.
  18. Is anyone listening to this game online from mlb.com. It states that it is the Milwaukee feed. However, I never heard this guy before in my life. It sounds like a freshman communications major. "Boom goes the dynamite!"
  19. Gonzalez was an infield hit just past Hall..and it sounded like Pierres was a hot shot that went off Overbay's glove.
  20. I know he's been fairly effective...but I can't believe Todd Jones is Florida's closer...or anyone's closer for that matter. I know injuries have something to do with it..but still.
  21. I knew it....pierre kills milwaukee..
  22. Jami Gertz?...is that the can't spare a square girl from Seinfeld?
  23. Oh..Ok..guess I did not have my full concentration on the game....was making a sandwich, and just caught that last comment.
  24. Normally do not post in these game day threads...but had to login in after I heard D. Sutton. Did I hear him correctly after the first half inning? Did he say "So far, so good, Brewers go down in order in the first."???!!?!? So far, so good? Is he still a Dodger fan from his childhood days? What was up with that?
