  1. I prefer it when athletes hustle all the time for the mega millions that they earn and I prefer that an athlete let his accomplishments do the talking instead of his showboating. I prefer that an athelete acheive greatness through hard work, dedication, and god-given skills. I would appreciate if I had a son or daughter, who is gifted in altheletics, does not feel he or she needs to add any performance enhancing drugs to there body to keep up with the pack. If all these things mean that I'm a Victorean ere spinster, then so be it. I would rather be that than someone who believes it's ok for players to be self-indulgant "me monsters" that have no respect for the game, the fans, or fellow athletes.
  2. You've gotta be kidding. Is this a common condition? http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/roll.gif So, all these guys just have low testosterone conditions? Ok, I'm sorry, I take back everything I said, my bad.
  3. In regard to everything going on in the world it's not a big deal. For that matter nothing is. But in the context of sports, it is a big deal. If I wanted to see illusions, I would go to a magic show. As a fan, I want to see real god-given talent, not artificially created talent. I'm not just talking about Ankiel. This news is still too fresh and the jury is still out regarding his situation. But I don't care if a player did this when it was "legal" or illegal, it's still wrong and these players know it. If it was not a problem when it was "legal" then why were these players so secretive about it? They didn't have these things just sitting out in the open and they didn't openly talk about them. Why? Because they knew that what they were doing was against the ethical principles of good sportsmanship.
  4. I understand that MLB is complicit in adding fuel to the "steroids era", but what if the Government decided to legalize murder, would you think it's "ok" to go out and start killing people? I realize that murder and taking steroids are not the same thing, but same principle. The players should not have to rely on MLB to tell them what's right and wrong.
  5. Is this an electronic ID to get in the building? If so, you would think they could just deactivate it. We had a guy here at work who had his car broken into on Friday an his brief case stolen. They just deactivated his ID and gave him a new one.
  6. Technically, no but what about moraly or ethically. There seems to be a segment of the sports fan base that does not have an issue with athletes artificially enhancing there bodies and athletic abilities. I don't understand this. Are you looking at the big picture? I got interested in sports as a kid because I believed I was watching athletes do things with their natural abilites and hard work and dedication. I equate the whole steroids/HGH thing to when I saw Evil Kenevil attempt to jump the Snake River Canyon. I remember thinking..wow, I gotta see this (this was a big event when this happened). So, I turn on the TV and watch evil climb into this vehical that lookes like a rocket placed on a launching ramp. Boy, what a dissapointment that was. I thought he was going to jump it using just his motor cycle.
  7. Wow..no wonder postal workers "go postal"
  8. That was hilarious. I loved SCTV. Notice Rick Moranis playing the guitar McCartney style (upsidedown lefty).
  9. "Peaches" by Presidents of the United States
  10. I think this is going to be a painful off-season for MLB Investigators Want to Talk to 45 Players About Suspected Steroid Use (added tag; added text to link --1992)
  11. Katuluu, I never heard of that movie (documentary). Is it out on DVD yet? When I first saw the trailer, I thought it was a Spinal Tap or Best in Show type spoof. Then I went to IMDB...it appears to be a real documentary??!?
  12. Had to pull up this thread again. My son was telling me about his first day back at school and a game of tag they played during recess. He talked about a "safe zone". So, I asked him if that was gool? He just stared at me blankley. Does anyone remember this from their childhood, or was it just something weird from our neighborhood? Gool was the safe place where you couldn't get tagged.
  13. I believe this is the 2nd or 3rd time he has sung the anthem at Wrigley. And he always sings "root, root, root for the Brewers". I'm not blaming Uecker for doing that, but I think any fans in any stadium are going to take offense to that.
  14. Ok, again, why would you not just buy them. You don't have to "lend" the brewers money for a month. Wait for your current credit card cycle to end and charge the tix. When your credit card bill comes at the end of the cycle, you will still have until sometime in October to pay (I would hope the credit would come through by then). Of course, I guess this may not work if you don't pay all or most of your credit card balance on a monthly basis. As bleak as things look, I would never chance the opportunity of missing out on playoff tix. If they don't go, you get a refund.
  15. That's not Clapton...is it? I know it doesn't really look a whole lot like him...but odd angle, just a guess. edit: Ok, nevermind...as I look back on the previous "Google won't save you" answers..it's not going to be someone like Clapton or Elvis Costello (which was my next guess).
  16. Wow, just got a chance to check back with this. The way the limits have been discussed, I honestly thought that there was some new rule that baseball had instituted, because everyone was talking in such hard numbers..like it was a rule or something. I'm old school, and I'm not sure what the difference is between pitchers now and 20 years ago, especially with the money thats being thrown around now.
  17. Ok, I have been a life long baseball fan. Was at the WS in 82, season tick holder since 93, spring training the last 5 years...so, I feel stupid asking this. I have seen this mentioned before on the site, but I have to ask now. What is this inning limit stuff? Is this something new? I have never heard of it until this year and all the discussions about it on this site. Sorry about my ignorance.http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/embarassed.gif
  18. My family and I always bring in a softsided cooler with beverages and a bag of peanuts. Then my wife usually gets one of those personal pizzas and I get a polish sausage and my kid gets a hot dog. Then, occasionally we'll splurge on popcorn or nachos during the game.
  19. Do those trucks actually carry anything, or do they just drive around all day? If they just drive around all day, what does the driver get paid? Seems like kind of a sweet job.
  20. Outstanding list FVBrewer Fan...we must be about the same age. MTV - When they actually had MUSIC - I use to spend hours watching nothing but music videos Pepsi Fan Club - Man that was an awsome deal. Just like our Jr Golf IDs at the county parks, my friends and I abused that beyond the allowed age limit. Soccer? what is that? - Best part of the list. My son doesn't play soccer, but many of his friends do and their dad's coach. The dads are about my age. I'm always asking them.."Soccer?, How can you coach it? How do you know anything about it? Where did you grow up? Soccer was about as common as Jai-Alai when I was growing up.Nobody played it or knew anything about it." Putting a tape recorder next to the radio - I used to have a taperecorder/radio combo. I would sit by the radio with my hands on the buttons waiting for one of my favorite songs to come on. Heck, even had a reel to reel tape recorder in grade school (70's). By the way..remember 'close and play' record players? Unbreakable black combs - Wow, remember everyone with the big end of the comb sticking out of their pockets?? Ghost runners & Pitchers hand out - And, don't forget right field out. Use to play all day. I'm not sure if anyone ever really kept score. I have a 9 year old and I really hate that he will never really get to experience that. Putting the bat in the bike handle bars and zooming off to the playground to play baseball (a lot of time on the concrete). Hopefully the ball we were using would stay in one piece long enough to last the day. Everyone would break for lunch and dinner and enevitably 1 or 2 kids would end up having to do chores and not return afterwards. Also...remember strikeout? I still see the boxes on the school walls...but I never see anyone playing anymore. Damn I wish I could be 11 again..just for a week or two.
  21. Yes! That's him! Michael Barryman. Ok, I guess not a "spitting image" (sorry Kevin)...but that is the image I always get in my head when I see Kevin Mench.
  22. There is a guy that I have seen in one or two films that is a spitting image of Kevin Mench. I wish I could remember the films. It's more of a character actor. I want to say he was in Mad Max or Conan the Barbarian or something like that...but I could not find any images of the actor I am thinking of when I searched under those movies.
  23. Going around a car that has stopped and is waiting to make a left hand turn is considered illegal? What if it's an intersection (without lights and the cross road has stop signs)? Wow, I have been driving for 24 years now, didn't know that. One road of many that I'm thinking of is Grandview (between Northview and Summit) in Waukesha. During rush hour it's pretty busy with cars turning down side streets all the time. Are you saying I'm not allowed to go into the parking lane to get by the turning car. If that's the case then it should never be legal to pass on a two lane highway. That's more dangerous than carefully going around a car that's making a left hand turn.
  24. Really is this the law? I guess I wasn't aware of that. So, are you saying that if a bike or buggy (not sure what that is?), is riding on the side of the road, you are not allowed to pass them until you get to a passing zone??! Sorry, I think that's a little unreasonable to expect cars to possibly ride behind a bike (that's on the side of the road) at 15 mph on a 55 mph county hwy for miles until they get to a passing zone. I think most people can safely pick a spot to edge a few feet into the other lane and pass. On another note. It really bothers me when someone is making a left hand turn on a two lane road and there is plenty of room to pass the car on the right as they wait for oncoming traffic to clear. However, instead of doing that, cars line up behind the turning car. I don't get that at all.
