  2. im so sick of this nonsense... barry bonds is just a baseball player...he has about as much impact on anyone's life as garfield the cat...i suggest just letting it go. Heck why even follow or talk about sports at all?
  3. Is is just me, or is it kind of odd that it is the latter part of July and we have only played the Reds twice? Last time I checked, the Red were in the NL Central. Yeah, I was thinking the same thing about the Brewers only playing the Cubs 3 more times. Ok, you play teams in your division what? 15 times? How hard is it to spread these games out evenly during the season? I'm thinking it has something to do with travel and trying to create the least amount of travel for players, but still.
  4. Bonds quote: "It doesn't mean anything different than anywhere else," Bonds said of playing in Aaron's town. "Right now, I just feel good. My body feels great. I feel rejuvenated a little bit. Maybe I'm going to take three more days off and come back." Huh? You feel rejuvinated so you're going to take another 3 days off? Does that make any sense? What BS! We all know why you would choose to take another 3 days off. Don't treat the fans and the media like idiots. At least in fairness he sat most of the Cubs series and I'm guessing he will sit for most of this series. But hey, SF, maybe you feel it's ok to sit Barry out because your not really in the pennant race anyways, but the teams you are playing are. And you owe it to the entire league to field the best team in order to maintain the integrity of the pennant race.
  5. Bonds hit 2 HRs today and is now 2 HRs away from tying. Questions: 1) Is hitting the record TYING HR important to do in SF? 2) If so, let's say he hits a HR in the 1st or 2nd inning tomorrow. Do they then take him out of the game?
  6. Gee guys thanks for straightening me out on what a GM's job is. I mean hey you guys are probably right, it was just a thought. But I still don't think it's wise to make trades that will upset the fan base (again, unless maybe they are financially neccesary). Basically you are saying that GMs never make bad moves. I think the Jet's could have used some help over the years from their fan base when it came to draft picks. edit: BillScott your post makes sense..didn't see your post before I made mine.
  7. If you're worried about fan reaction, you have no business running a team. I knew I'd get that kind of reply. But I still think it's not completely without merit. So if your a GM, you should never be worried about what your fans think? That doesn't seem to make financial sense to me.
  8. I'm not saying its the case here, but do you ever think teams purposely leak potential trades to get a sense of what the fan base will think before they pull the trigger? I know that might seem kind of far fetched, and I know I'm going to get "no way" responses. But think about it...why would you ever want to make a trade, unless it was strictly for financial purposes, that would upset the fan base? Wouldn't it make sense to kind of get a feel of how it's going to play out with the fans?
  9. I too have had front row seats a couple of time. The issue is, I enjoy my personal space. I'd like to arrive a half hour or so before the game and soak in the atmosphere from my front row seat. It's kind of hard to do when your staring at someone's butt. Some people seem to have no awareness of other's personal space. I'm a big personal space person.
  10. Probably just a timing thing. For example, I had tickets for Saturday's game (from our 20 game pack). However, it turned out we could not attend Saturdays game. So I went earlier in the week and exchanged them for another game. So, you may have just time your purchase after another ticket holder exchanged their tickets for the game.
  11. I think what the original poster was referring to are 300 club passes that allow you to get onto the 300 club level. You can also enter the stadium with these passes through a special entrance to avoid any lines if you wish. As a 20 game season ticket holder, we get 300 club passes with our tickets (even though we are in Section 217). I don't really get it. The only time we use them is for the rare games where there is a backup to get in the stadium, then we go in the 300 club entrance. Other than that I don't see the attraction. It's a nice carpeted hallway with a bar. That's it. Doesn't really thrill me. I never ventured over to the .300 club resturaunt, but as mentioned, even if you have .300 club passes, you can't get a seat at the resturant without a reservation.
  12. The announcers didn't notice, I didn't notice, no one I talked to the next day noticed and I'm guessing the umps didn't notice, otherwise they would have not allowed it. I think the reason no one noticed is because the fan that caught it gave no immediate reaction. He didn't raise his glove up or get excited. In fact it almost looks like he slapped his glove down in disgust afterwards as if he missed it.
  13. I too was at the All Star game in 2002. I enjoyed it. I saw the stars play, it was fun, and I was completely shocked as I was driving home and listening to talk radio and hearing all the outrage. I didn't get it then. I don't get it now. It's an exhibition game (or at least was). It didn't count. Why is it so important that there is a final outcome? The managers try to get everyone in the game so that the fans get to see their players. Yet, everyone is outraged when they run out of players. Would you rather see them run a pitcher (maybe a pitcher on your favorite team) into the ground for the sake of having a meaningless outcome? Has putting a "meaning" on it changed the way that managers make substitutions? I don't think so. What if the NL had tied up the game last night and it went into 12 or 13 innings. How many pitchers were left? I think fans have to decide what they want. Do they want all star teams with representatives from each team with the expectation that the manager will get everyone in the game at some point (by the way, did you see that Pujols was upset he didn't get in?), or do you want to see a roster of 25 that is managed just like any other game during the season?
  14. Let's say that somehow he did play and did hit the record tying or breaking HR in Milwaukee. Now, imagine all the Milwaukee fans booing loudly, maybe throwing things, etc. Do you think this would start a fan war with SF? Imagine when the Brewers are in SF in August. Would the SF fans boo Fielder every time he's up and hold up signs about steroids?
  15. . I hope it's not 2 weeks...it will be over by then. :P edit: never could figure out the emoticons
  16. How can the Brewers (or any team) have off the Thursday after the AS break??! When did they start doing this? I think this happened last year or the year before too. Every team should be scheduled to play that day. Drives me nuts.
  17. Wow, I'm really in the minority here. I find Pat Hughes very boring (always have, even when he was in Milwaukee - I think Powell is great). I don't know what it is. It's like he's too nice or something. I find Santo entertaining. It's not that I think Santo is a great broadcaster or anything, but he's funny without trying to be. It's like watching the game with your uncle or something. I crack up when the Cubs do something bad and all you get from Santo is "Oh geez!.. I will agree that Hughes is great at describing the game, but sorry I just find him boring. BA is boring too.
  18. The whole Counsel and Graffy hitting 1-2 should be thread all by itself. I'm driving home from work tonight and they are announcing the starting line up. I almost drove off the road in rage. You have got to be kidding me!!! Did they just pick the lineup out of a hat. What a joke!
  19. I'm in Waukesha and have Time Warner. My feed to the game went out...anyone else experiencing this?
  20. I use to visit and post on the brewers.com message board all the time. Then, 4 years ago or so, I stummbled upon this site. I slowly migrated over here and I rarely even visit the Brewer message board any more. I really enjoy the intelligent conversation from people who are true baseball fans. I get most of my Brewer new from here. I love this site. Having said that, I am also a very cynical and sarcastic type of person. I know these are not great traits, but sorry, it's how I am. So, I do find my self biting my toungue at times and not really responding the way I'm actually thinking for fear of being kicked off. When I really have to bite my toungue is when someone posts a question about something that could easily be found with a simple search on Yahoo and Google. Yes, it's not always a simple search that can get the answer, but sometimes it's as simple as going to brewers.com or tripadvisor.com for hotel information. I know, I know....got to be nice. But sometimes I just want to quote Bruce Dickinson...I mean hey, your already on the internet, now come on "explore the space".
  21. Haudricourt must be a brewerfan.net reader... www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=599953
  22. Does anyone else think that the this Umpire is really giving Sheets a lot of strikes that are off the plate on both sides. On the other side, it seems like he's squeezing Looper a little.
  23. I have been avoiding this thread because it's hard to complain when your team is playing well and is in first place. I didn't have time to go through all 20 pages of posts, so sorry if this has already been mentioned but...I really hate Sunday and other day game line ups. It's not just a Yost thing, it seems like all managers in the past 20 years for the Brewers do this (although, I notice Garner pretty much had is A lineup in there today vs. the Brewers). I also know that other managers for other teams do this too. I can understand givin a player a rest day once in a while, but do you have to do 3 or 4 in one game!!??! Today..Weeks, Hall, and Estrada all out. Uuuuggghhh! I hate that. To me, it's just like giving up your best chance to win just so a guy can get a day off. Again, do they all have to get a day off on the same day??! I know, I know...they won. But still, it drives me nuts. ----- Continued from: viewtopic.php?p=149149#p149149 Original Lead: viewtopic.php?f=63&t=382
  24. Ok, point taken.. I have always enjoyed Brewerfan.net because of the way it monitors its baseball discussion. I very rarely visit the the brewers.com message board anymore. Sometimes that site sounds like a bunch of pre-teens having a slumber party. I guess I just wasn't aware that the no politics, religion, sex guidlines applied to the off-topic board as well. Not sure that I agree with it, but hey, what choice do I have. I guess I just thought that if one is entering an "off-topic" discussion board that one would be aware that people may have opposing views about topics (inclucing sex, politics, and religion). Although, on the other hand, I guess I can understand the moderators desire to stay away from some of the "over the top" things that are posted on boards like in "craigs list".
  25. I noticed the "and if you disagree" board got locked because of religion and politics. We can't talk religion and politics?....Not even on the off-topic board? Maybe there should be a "religion and politics for the thick skinned" board.
