  1. Amen, you get that all the time downtown. People who are jaywalking in the first place, they see a car coming but don't feel it's neccesary to quicken the pace a little. As I said to my wife, would hurt people to jog for 5 feet? I guess it just wouldn't be cool to do that? I'll take that a step further. People need to walk in the same manner that they drive. If you were pulling out from a side street, would you pull out right in front of a car that was doing 45? I would hope not. However, people do this in malls and in other public situations all the time. I'm walking down the mall, someone comes out of a store and never looks up to see if someone else is walking towards them, they just walk right out in front of me. Happens everywhere...on sidewalks, in Miller Park, etc.
  2. I gotta come to the off-topic page more often. There are some really good threads here. I'm very easily annoyed, so if I really thought about it, I could take up one whole page with one post, but I'll limit it to things that have come to my head now (sorry if there are repeats). The last post reminds me of one of the things that really bugs me. People who talk to loudly. People who are still using checks to pay for their groceries. If you have a checking account, then you should have access to a check card. Use it. Non-handicaped people parking in handicap spots. (Let's just put this under the general umbrella of people who think they are so special that the rules and common curtesy's of society don't apply to them.) Ok, as I'm typing this stuff, I'm thinking that maybe I'm misunderstanding this thread. Maybe it's more about what bugging you at this moment as opposed to a list of life-long grievences. So, I'll stop.http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/ohwell.gif
  3. Wow this is a great thread. I'm an extremely nostalgic person. I went to grade school in the 70's, but it really wasn't much different than the 80's in regards to a lot of things mentioned in this thread. I miss the ABC after school movie. We also use to occasionaly have an after school movie in our cafeteria. It was usually some nature story of two mis-matched animals treking their way across mountains, streams, and nature in general. The whole film would be narrated by a voice that I can still hear in my head. Baseball cards - wow, great stuff. Use to buy mine at Larry's drug store in West Allis (anyone actually remember when they sold baseball cards in grocery and drug stores?). There were one or two years in the late 70's were I collected the entire set by buying packs and trading with my friends (man did I have a lot of that hard cardboard like gum that came with each pack). They also had the clear strips (I think there were 45 or 60 card in a strip) for something like $1.00 or $1.50. and you could see six of the cards that you were buying. I remember when I would need 4 or 5 card to complete the set and I would spend a half hour in the store searching the clear strips for the cards I needed.
  4. I didn't look at the in-game thread and don't know if it was brought up there. Skimming through today's postings here I didn't see it mentioned and I can't believe it wasn't. Please tell me I'm not the only person upset about this. I realize he's our MVP guy and has 38 HRs and all, but Fielder's 3rd and 5th ABs were completely inexcusable. 5th inning, runner on 1st (2nd?), He's ahead in the count 2-0 and then he swings at 3 pitches outside of the strike zone!!!??! You would think he would learn from that. No. Comes up in the 9th, with the tying run on 2nd. Again 2-0 count and he swings at a pitch outside the zone. Then it goes 3-1 and he swings at a pitch away to ground out weakly. Prince, you have a very capable hitter behind you. Let them walk you if they want to! AAAHHHRGGH!!!
  5. I'm not sure why anyone would pass on the opportunity to purchase these tickets. If you don't have the money to purchase then charge, borrow, do what ever you have to do. Even if you don't plan on going, you will definitely be able to sell them for a profit (note that they are sold to season ticket holders at a discount) of at least twice what you paid or more. I guarantee it. Why would anyone pass on that opportunity? You'll be kicking yourself when you see what people are willing to pay for the tickets in the secondary market. My tix came to about $3,750 (3 tix). That's more than I can really afford. My plan would be to sell one game of each series. I'm betting that I could pay for the whole thing by doing that. By the way, as some one else mentioned, the Brewers have nothing to do with the pricing of the WS tickets.
  6. Maybe somebody already mentioned this, but when I first read the title to this thread I thought "No, Cappy's year is similar to Cappy's last year" http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/grin.gif
  7. All-Star Sham I got taken by the "Sham" too. Went to the exhibition game, saw all the stars play. Saw a great catch by T. Hunter. I felt so cheated that there wasn't a winner in a game that had no consequence.
  8. Pedro, Have not been home yet, so I'm curious to how they did the pricing. It's been decided that the AL has HF advantage in the WS. However, how did they do the NLDS and NLCS? The team with the best record get HF advantage there...correct? Did they just assume HF advantage for invoicing purposes? Also, how did the pricing go for each series? I assumed that the pricing for the NLDS would be just slightly above regular season prices, NLCS would be double, and I wasn't sure about WS (anywhere from $75 to $350 depending on the seats I guess).
  9. I'm sure they will not make you do that. You will be able to get a refund if they don't make it.
  10. I also root for who will ever help us the most on that day. However, I would rather see the Cubs in the playoffs than the Cards. Just for the entertainment value. The suspense of how they will blow it is always fun to watch. What will it be this time?....Game 7 of the NLCS, Cubs down by 3, bases loaded, Lee hits a towering drive to right..it hits a bird and drops right into the right fielders glove for the final out. The next day, birds all over the city of Chicago are being killed by frustrated Cub fans.
  11. Does anyone have any hope of the Brewers winning today? It's almost like a win, especially against a team like the Cards, would be a major accomplishment. Maybe there should be a ticker tape parade down WI ave if they win today.http://static.yuku.com/v2//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/grin.gif
  12. Ajay's list was right on the money. I would rather have a .220 hitting catcher like Brad Ausmus over Estrada. At least he makes an effort to play defense. There is no spark on this team. There was a flare hit by Eckstein last night that I thought Hart could have made more effort to catch. It would have been an outstanding, possible #1 web gem catch. But, my point is that if you are fighting for first at this time of the year, you have to play every out like it's the last out of the World Series. I don't see that type of play coming from the Brewers right now. I don't think the Cardinals have a whole lot more talent than the Brewers right now, but they are sure playing with a lot more confidence. The veteran experience of guys like Rolen, Edmonds, and Eckstein are really paying off for them right now.
  13. Of course you will be able to get a refund (are people really questioning this?). You will probably have an option of a refund or a credit. The only thing I can see is that they may withhold some sort of service fee.
  14. I hope he doesn't do that. The Brewers need to get beyond the "rebuilding" mentality. They have arrived. Despite their recent woes, they are now contenders and need to start acting like it. If they have a hole in the outfield it needs to be filled with a FA that's proven he can get the job done, not a prospect like Gross or Gwynn. I think Gwynn is a great guy and will always give 110%, but I'm not as high on his abilities as others on this board. Unless you are talking about prospects with credentials like Gallardo, Braun, Fielder, etc., you have to go with proven talent at this point.
  15. I believe you are thinking of "Better off Dead". http://images.kodakgallery.com/photos3731/5/63/97/44/90/6/690449763505_0_ALB.jpg The picture you posted was from "Say Anything". Both John Cusack movies, so easy mistake. By the way anyone see Cusack slumped over his cell phone at the Cubs game last night?
  16. 1) Eckstein 2) Biggio 3) Rolen 4) Ichiro 5) David Wright wildcard) Lincecum - not only is he going to be a great pitcher, but I think he covers first base on a ball hit to the right side, faster than any pitcher I have ever seen
  17. So, basically you hate anyone that doesn't hit a ton of HRs or put up monster stats. If they are not big HR hitters or putting up monster stats then they must not be helping the team that much and therefore we should hate them. I can understand guys like Eck not being on the most liked list, but to be hated? I don't get it? What about Scott Rolen? Last night I watched him hit a home run, and in typical Scott Rolen fashion he dropped the bat but his head down and circled the bases without a "home-run trot". Sorry for ranting...I know I'm kind of getting away from the subject of the thread. It just bothers me in a level beyond anything having to do with baseball that so many people don't like a hard working player like David Eckstein. It boggles my mind. I was brought up to appreciate people who played like that or worked in any profession like that. Probably more a discussion for the off-topic board.
  18. http://images.kodakgallery.com/photos3488/5/53/40/16/81/4/481164053505_0_ALB.jpg
  19. Interesting. I'd like to see the geographical popularity broken down a little more. I'm wondering if away from the East Coast if Boston would rank higher than NY. I coach a youth baseball team and I think if you asked them which team they liked best outside of the Brewers, many of them would say Boston. I'm not just talking about this year, but for the past 2 or 3 years. In fact, some of the kids wear Red Sox t-shirts on occasion to practice. I think it's the Big Poppy thing.
  20. Similar threads have come up like this before. It just always kills me how much people hate David Eckstein. Don't get that at all. He's one of those players that I can point to and say to my son..."See...that's how the game should be played". And please don't point out his OBP or OPS or anything like that. I don't care what they are, I'm talking about how he always hustles and plays hard. Is it just because he usually plays well against the Brewers, or because D. Sutton had a mancrush on him or what? I don't get why people don't like him? I'd much rather watch a guy like him, or Rolen, or Weeks play than a guy who has to strike a pose everytime he hits a HR (and sometimes when he just hits it to the warning track...man, that annoys me).
  21. Wow, that seems like a waste. You would think that they would allow local High Schools to use it on occasion or maybe some division 2 or 3 colleges. I do realize that there are several other spring training facilities in the area, but heck, even Miller Park is used by HS and College teams once in a while. Do they maintain the field when it's not being used for most of the year?
  22. I wonder if Braun smiles when he's Jet Skiing.
  23. Sundevil, thanks for the great picture. I notice that it appears they do not play on the main diamond. Kind of suprised by this, but I guess if there are only 5 people watching, what's the point. Do they ever use that main diamond outside of Spring Training or maybe the AZ Fall league?
  24. Dhonks, I guess I'll be the only one to at least somewhat agree with you. It's has always struck me as strange how opinionated some people are regarding sports announcers. Yes, there are some announcers that I'm not really thrilled about. I thought Jim Pascke was boring and I feel somewhat the same way about Brian Anderson. However, I don't dislike them so much that I turn down the sound or go into a rant every time their names are mentioned. Trust me, I'm probably one of the most easily annoyable people you will ever find, but I never could understand how easily people are annoyed (or overly enamoured for that matter) with sports announcers. Sometimes I think people read way too much in to what announcers say.
