  1. This guy: https://gma.yahoo.com/florida-man-deliberately-scuttles-pay-forward-starbucks-line-165749709--abc-news-topstories.html?vp=1 I agree with him 100%. A bunch of people of roughly the same economic status paying for each other drinks at Starbucks....what's the point? I think the pay-it-forward concept is that if someone does a good deed for you that you should seek out someone who may need your help and pass along the favor, not hey, lets pay for each other's coffee for no reason.
  2. Is that the actual picture in the 8/16/20 post? Looks more recent than 1920. Did teams actually have trainers on hand for each game back then...seems like more of a rub some dirt on it and get to 1st base type of era.
  3. Amen! This has been going on for as long as I remember (Brewer's getting bumped to a "lesser" station for a meaningless Packer game). I could be wrong, but this may also be the case when the Brewers are in the play offs and there is a conflict with a Packer game.
  4. Jim, I'll concur with some of the other posters here. We are in the same section as you are (217) have been partial season ticket holders since the early 90's (91 or 92?). In 2008 after almost 20 years of being a season ticket holder we still did not get tickets in the same section. They were 4 sections to the right of our section (down the first base line). Then in 2011 we were in 2 sections away. The last time they sold post season tix but didn't make the playoffs (2012), we were in our same section and row. This time we are in the same section and 4 rows closer. It's almost as if they are upgrading us. However, if that's the case, I wish they didn't. I prefer to sit in our normal seats in row 10 (last row of 217), but I'm not going to complain..still very happy with our location.
  5. Nobody on the Brewers has thrown an inordinate number of innings though. K-Rod has the most (57.0 IP) and that only ranks 27th in MLB. Will Smith is at 55.1 IP, and everybody else in the bullpen is below 50 IP. Don't see how Wang-related overuse could possibly be an issue. The Brewers bullpen as a whole has actually thrown the fifth fewest innings of any bullpen in baseball, and the third lowest in the NL. I guess this is the best "pro-Wang" argument I have seen. With Roenicke as the manager, the Brewers tend to use their bullpen less than most other teams in baseball. He has an obsession about trying to get 6 innings out of his starter. This is the argument I don't agree with. Most team's "mop-up guys" are not pitchers that would never ever be used in any close games. They are capable MLB level players (Wang was not). If you have a string of close games you have to have at least a little faith in the "mop-up" to put him out there and give other guys in the bullpen a rest. The Brewers clearly had no faith in Wang to do that (and rightly so). Heck, they seemed hesitant to use him with a 4 or 5 run lead.
  6. I realize that this is not a popular opinion on this site, but in regards to the recent bullpen issues, I think part of the problem is that during the first half of the season the bullpen had to fill the hole left by basically having one less pitcher on the staff. I still think having Wang on the roster was a mistake. I know the popular opinion was that he was basically a "mop-up guy" and so it didn't matter, but he didn't even fill that role. I don't think there was another pitcher on any another team that was on the active roster for as long as Wang was and pitched as few innings as he did (I'm guessing no one is even close). So, other pitchers had to fill in for those missing innings during the first 3 months of the season and maybe we are now starting to see the effects of that, especially with Smith.
  7. I would hope that all the celebrities and sports stars that are getting ice water dumped on them are also making donations.
  8. The whole ALS Ice bucket challenge is entertaining, but I don't understand how it raises money, other than to maybe raise awareness. However, I don't know how many people that watch those videos are inspired to donate to ALS (or even know that is what it's all about). I'd like to see the person say "I now challenge so and so and if they do it I'll donate X amount to ALS" or something like that.
  9. Regardless of my post above, I'm not sure I agree with this. Maybe they need to change the rules, but you can't ignore the rules just because there are "playoff implications". What if this game happened in April and SF finished the season 1 game out of the wildcard spot? Should they then go back and replay that April game? A game in September does not get weighted more than a game in April. They all count the same. The whole season is a "playoff race".
  10. I can't blame SF at all for whining about that game and I'm glad they decided to resume play. If you allow a game to end like that it opens the door for all sorts of shenanigans.
  11. Wow..was that a standard Uecker call...."Popped up to left field....and.... did he get a glove on that?....it bounced over the wall for a ground rule double". What? I thought it was a pop up!
  12. Nice to see 42,000+ at the stadium on a Tuesday night! What's the deal with Tuesday night crowds? Is there some special I'm not aware of on Tuesday nights? We went to the Tuesday night game 2 weeks ago vs San Fran and it was the biggest crowd of the week (over 40K). It took us completely by surprise. Left our house at 6pm from Waukesha and didn't get to our seats until 7:30. It was a bigger crowd than the Friday night game that week and there were no free hand outs or anything?
  13. turborickey, good call on Best of Times. Forgot about that one. Also, remembered another one last night that I liked a lot...The Fisher King
  14. Pretty much agree, but I would replace Mrs. Doubtfire with Awakenings. Patch Adams would be my 5th.
  15. We were lucky with our son. He was always interested and wanted to go to games from an early age. I'm not saying that at 5 years old he intently watched every single pitch, but I think he was a lot more attentive than most kids at that age. We never had an issue where he had no interest in the game and just wanted to wonder around the park. Now he's 16 and the greater issue over the last 3 or 4 years has been being able to fit Brewer games into the schedule. Kids, as they get older, tend to have busy summer schedules! Thankfully, MLB has made selling tickets on stubhub relatively easy and, for the most part, I'm usually able to at least get back what I paid for the tickets. We generally find the need to sell 4 or 5 games (out of 20) every year. These 3 main factor's still make going to the games enjoyable for us: - The family section and our seat location within the family section. - Miller Park's location - The fact that you can bring in your own beverages and food. I'm also glad that I'm not the only one that get's annoyed by drunk, obnoxious fans and the fact that they could seem to care less about anyone else's enjoyment of the game. I'm not a teetotaler. I drink. However, I decided long ago that I'll give up the option to have a beer at the ball game in exchange for sitting in a section where I don't have to deal with people who can't handle their alcohol. Also, I can't get over the number of people who use the "F" word as an adjective just about every other sentence (sometimes this has nothing to do with drinking...it's just a speech pattern they have developed). Imho...it makes them sound less than intelligent.
  16. That wasn't and isn't the question. It's a purely hypothetical question about how would this team look if they still had all the players they'd traded away. Actually that was the part of the question. Here is the original post: I think vegasbrewcrew was answering the part I bolded of the original post. I don't know that I agree with him that the players that were traded were "nothing", but it doesn't matter to me whether or not we would be a better team now, I agree with him that I would do those trades again in a heart beat.
  17. The thing with Tampa though is that they play NY and Boston a lot. You think they would draw a lot for those games.
  18. Did Lepay say that AJ Ellis lives just outside of Milwaukee? Anyone know anything about this? I don't think he's from Wisconsin.
  19. There have been 4 expansion teams in the last 20 years. They are Miami, Tampa, Arizona, and Colorado. Miami and Arizona are last and 2nd last in the NL in attendance. Tampa Bay is last in the AL. Colorado, arguably the team that has enjoyed the least success of these 4 teams, has always done well attendance-wise and is currently ranked 4th in the NL in attendance.
  20. This report says that the DEA has uncovered 5 more players (not 90): http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/report--dea-discovers-five-players-with-ties-to-peds--mlb-wants-names-171716220.html
  21. I care, but I guess I'm just "sanctimonious". I promised myself I would try to stay out of these conversations, but I can't help myself with posts like this. This whole thought that you must be "holier-than-thou" if you care about PED usage. No, I just don't care to see the game I grew up watching and loving turn into a cartoonish video game version of itself.
  22. I never understood the popularity of Shark Week on Discovery. Yawn.
  23. Like many others, he stated he was taking them for a reason other than trying to build up muscle. Hard to really tell how open he was/is about it.
  24. Wasn't Marlon Byrd already suspended at one point? Maybe I am making that up. I'm just hoping it's not any Brewers. Not that I care in the least about the actual act, but would rather not have the distraction during the stretch run. Yep, in 2012 Wow, didn't realize or had forgotten about that. Interesting that the two best power years of his career come after he gets caught and suspended.
  25. The one current player I really wonder about is Marlon Byrd. Seems to be hitting more and more HRs as he ages! It's too bad that this is the thought that instantly pops up when someone starts putting up numbers that are not in line with his career averages.
