  1. Yes, but why hold a press conference to tell a bunch of lies and throw people under the bus after you won your case? Knowing that you are guilty and you got away with something, why not just say "I'm glad that's over and I'm eager to move forward". He didn't lie in hopes of getting away with something. He lied after he got away with something. I spoke with someone from NY yesterday and we were talking about Braun. He said "Yeah, it's basically that press conference that makes him look like a complete tool". There is no way you can convince me that if Braun was on another team like the Cards, Cubs, or where ever, that Brewer fans would not boo loudly when he came into town.
  2. The only thing with that is that KBB actually asks you about the condition of the car before they give you their FMV (they ask you to rate the condition as Fair, Good, Very Good, and Excellent and they give an explanation of what each category is), Edmunds does not.
  3. Yeah, that's exactly what was going on. Fans in Milwaukee affirmatively favor cheating and lying. They were just waiting for an opportunity to express their support for cheating and lying. I'm sure a lot of those fans considered booing other players who have reputations for honesty, but they figured the national media wouldn't understand the point of the booing. So the best they could do was stand for Braun and scream out their support for cheating and lying. I'm really glad you explained that the fans' standing ovation for Braun reflected their admiration of cheating and lying. Stupid me, I had assumed that maybe the fans stood up and cheered because their star player was back after a long suspension. I figured some of them wanted to convey forgiveness, or just support for a player who had obviously been through a difficult time, even though he brought that difficulty on himself. I thought the standing ovation might have, from some fans, sent the message that, hey, we're starting with a clean slate after you did a bad thing and did your time. Perhaps, I moronically posited, Milwaukee fans wanted to give Braun more support than he deserves because they knew fans in opposing parks were bound to give him a whole lot more abuse than he deserves. But you really set me straight, and obviously you were able to do that due to your morally superior position of nonforgiveness. Because you've chosen not to forgive Braun for his lying and cheating, anyone who chooses to forgive him must be a morally deficient advocate for cheating and lying. That is some unimpeachable logic right there, and I for one am duly ashamed of myself. Wow...relax. I think you are just have trouble accepting the fact that I am morally superior to you in every way. I figured I didn't need to put that in blue since you declined to do so in your post (unless you honestly think I was stating that people gave Bruan a standing O because he lied and cheated). Are you putting yourself in a "morally superior position" of being able to quickly forgive someone for their "bad deeds" when others can not? It's very possible that some day Braun will win my support back again. It's just going to take more time for me.
  4. In regards to Bruan vs. Ruiz, or J. Peralta, or some of these other guys there are some differences. - As pointed out in a previous post, the lies. If it's hard for someone to understand this I urge you to go to You Tube and search for his ST press conference and watch it again. It's hard to stomach in hindsight. - Braun won an MVP the same year he tested positive. - Braun is a very good player. Whether it makes sense or not, it's easier for opposing fans to boo someone of Bruan's caliber than it is to boo someone like Ruiz (who I'm sure most fans don't even realize failed a drug test). Personally, I'm not as quick to forgive as others on this board are, but I don't boo Braun or root against him. The only time I would ever possibly boo a player is if I thought they were not putting forth an honest effort on the field. However, I'm also not one to give him a standing ovation when his AB is announced. I don't get that. If the steroids thing did not happen fans would cheer loudly when he was announced (just because he's one of our "star players"), but I doubt he would get a standing O. So, he cheats and lies, and that warrants a standing O? Sorry...not trying to turn this into another for/against Braun thread. My main point was to give some reason as to why fans are probably quicker to boo Bruan than someone like Carlos Ruiz.
  5. Both sites ask for all this info (make, model, trim, options, Private vs. Dealer, location, etc)...so I'm comparing apples to apples. After I posted this on here, I did a search on this subject and it seems like there are several forums that discuss this topic but no one really seems to have a good reason why Edmunds is always so much lower than KBB. The best answer I saw was that Edmunds possibly gives the lowest price to expect on any particular vehicle. In searching for cars I find that most prices that are posted are much closer to KBB than Edmunds.
  6. So, I'm looking for a used car for my son. I've been using Kelly's Blue Book and Edmunds to try to get a sense of the true value of cars that I've been looking at. Can anyone tell me why Edmunds consistantly values cars at least $1,000 less than what KBB shows? For example, I'm looking at a 2001 Subaru Outback with 118,000 miles sold by a dealer. KBB has it at $6,400 and Edmunds has it at $4,200?!? I've noticed this same thing several years ago when I was looking for a car.
  7. I misread your post at first Jim. I thought you were saying that you and Harvey Kuenn were the same age. Since I believe I'm about the same age as you, I had to look that up. Then it dawned on my what you were saying (that you are the same age now that Kuenn was back in 1982). But Yeah, he looked a lot older than he was. Having a prosthetic leg didn't help.
  8. I don't think anyone is suggesting that you should bunt every time against the shift. To say that Fielder did it once in a while is being kind. He might have tried it once or twice. Perhaps if you try it 30 to 40 percent of the time and have some success (and yes, you can be successful if you take the time to work on your bunting skills), then perhaps teams will think twice before using the shift on you.
  9. I'm continuously amazed at how forgiving some people are of ballplayers who get paid millions of dollars a year to do what they do. Just because bunting is not something that you normally do doesn't mean it's not something that maybe you should work on. If the majority of times that you come to bat there is a shift on you, then maybe you should take the time to work on your bunting skills instead of pleading "I'm not a bunter". If this is A) something that will help you get on base more often and B) perhaps discourage the shift (also increasing your chances of getting a hit) and therefore helping your team win games then act like a paid professional and learn the skill. Either learn how to spray the ball a little better or learn how to bunt. I don't think that's asking too much of a person who is paid to play the game on a professional level.
  10. I completely agree. If I'm not mistaken, I think there have been some guys that have done this (Ortiz? and/or Howard?), but I don't think guys take advantage of that situation nearly enough. When they use to do it on Fielder, I always thought...geez he could get a base hit every time if he just bunted it down the 3rd base line, but I'm pretty sure he never did.
  11. Yesterday, during the pre-game stuff on Fox Sports WI they talked about some special programs that were going to be airing in the next week or two regarding Segura and Gomez. I didn't catch the whole thing, but it appeared that they were going to visit their baseball beginnings in their home countries and re-visit how it all started for both of them. Looked very interesting. Did anyone catch the dates/times that these were going to be airing?? I believe one of them was on April 11th?
  12. Section 231 Row 5 $45 Face Value - make me a reasonable offer.
  13. Are you sure they didn't open it up and steal parts?
  14. What is with weather.com's obsession with death? Before I get a bunch of replies about how weather.gov is a much better weather site...I agree. However, I still occasionally go to weather.com because I like to compare 7-10 day forecasts from different sites. Seems like there is always some story they want you to click on about a bride or groom dying right after their wedding or a teenager dying after competing in a sporting event or something. How is any of this weather related?
  15. I'll basically agree with what RobDeer 45 stated and add that if Overbay and/or Reynolds have the simple ability to catch a throw at 1B, then their defense is already better than Francisco's
  16. I'm glad. Francisco was probably one of my least favorite Brewers of all time.
  17. I just never heard this (34%?). I just tried searching, but couldn't find anything that talked about how much teams share from their TV contracts. So, I'm not sure where you are getting this from. I found this article from 2012 that states: "The money from each team’s local TV deal is mostly kept by the team. " http://mlb.mlb.com/pa/pdf/cba_english.pdf on the top of page 121 34 percent of every teams local revenue is put in a pot and evenly distributed among every team also the top 15 markets forfeit and increasing chunk of their revenue sharing money as the years go on. It was 25% last year, 50% this year, 75% next year and all of it in 2016, so the Brewers are getting an increasingly large chunk of that money as time goes on. Perhaps I'm wrong. Perhaps the lower revenue teams are starting to get larger relative chunks of the revenue sharing pie than they were before. However, it still seems as if it's better to be a team that contributes "big chunks" to revenue sharing than a team that receives "big chunks" from revenue sharing. Until I see teams like the Brewers, Royals, Twins, Pirates, etc mentioned in the same breath as the Yankees, Angels, Dodgers, Rangers in the off season as being in the hunt for top free agents it's going to be hard for me to believe that revenue sharing is truly working. Year after year it's the same story. We compete for the likes of Suppan, Wolf, and Garza.....those are our "big" signings. It would be nice not to have to mortgage the farm system for guys like Grienke and Marcum. Until this happens, it will be hard for me to believe that these "large chunks" that are being received are doing anything more than helping the Brewers keep up with the inflation of baseball.
  18. My guess is that most of this "free parking" you found was on weeknights or weekends. I put free in quotes, because on weekdays street parking will be metered and/or on a time limit. The area you are talking about is in the middle of the MSOE campus. Unless they are on spring break this week, street parking will probably be fairly limited in this area on Thursday and Friday.
  19. There will be a little more competition on Thursday and Friday for spots because they are work days. It depends on the proximity of parking structures to office buildings. To give you an example, I can see the Hyatt structure parking lot from my office. That one usually appears to be pretty empty during a normal work day. One block to the south of that on 3rd street there is a parking structure located right next door to the blue federal building. That lot generally appears much fuller (with cars parked on the top level). I would say that the Hyatt and BC lots should be safe bets on Thurs/Fri as I don't believe many workers use those lots (although...now that I say that....I know that there are several spots in the BC parking lot reserved for MATC). Might not be a bad idea to try to get downtown by 8am on Thursday and Friday and just "hangout" (grab breakfast, go take a picture with the Fonz) until game time if you want to be assured of getting decent parking. Also, some lots have "early-bird" specials (generally before 8 or 9 am) during the weekday. Not sure if this will be true while the tourney is going on, but possibly if you get there 2 or 3 hours before the first game it might be.
  20. While I'm happier with the Brewers starting rotation and depth in pitching than I was a year ago at this time my excitement is tempered by the fact that I believe 3 of the better pitching rotations in baseball are in our division. Pitt, StL, and Cincy.....I especially like Cincy's pitching staff. If the offense stays healthy it is just as good and probably better than any of the teams in the division, but I'm a believer that, in the end, it's pitching that makes the difference between contenders and pretenders. The Brewers have the 4th best pitching staff in the division imho.
  21. This could have also have gone in the "What's not bugging me" thread. I really enjoy the wealth of golf tips/help you can find on the internet. I have been going to the Currie golf dome once a week for the last 4 or 5 weeks and I've been pretty pleased with how I'm striking the ball with the exception of one glaring issue....I have been shanking just about all of my chip shots for the last 2 weeks. It's been really frustrating. So, I did a quick "shanking chip shots" search on the internet this morning and found several videos. After watching 2 of them it's pretty clear what I'm doing (too open of a stance and definitely coming outside-in on my chip shots). I now feel very confident I can fix it. I can't wait to try!
  22. I understand your point EBaN. I can see this as a skit on SNL or a scene on Portlandia where someone is being interviewed and asked to "talk about" random thinks that have nothing to do with anything that is relevent to the interviewee.... "Talk about fruit", "Talk about the French Revolution", etc. However, I sometimes prefer that type of interviewing rather than asking direct questions. Perhaps "Talk about coach Smith" will get a more interesting answer and lead to further questions and discussion than "How do you feel about coach Smith's style of coaching?". Perhaps there is an interesting story about the player borrowing a jacket from "Coach Smith" that the interviewer would have no way of knowing about and would not be touched on if he was just asked to answer how he feels about Smith's coaching style. I guess the only time it would really bother me is if it were a more serious interview where the person (athlete, politician, or whoever) being interviewed was perhaps being charged or investigated for something. In that instance I would be more interested in seeing more "hard hitting" questions that get to the point.
  23. I think it's pronounced "Wong"...at least that is how B.A. has been pronouncing it.
  24. No odds on Hank biting one of the pitcher's hands? I guess the Brewers should be thankful it wasn't a stray cat that they adopted.... http://www.cbsnews.com/news/me-ow-22-pound-house-cat-attacks-baby-traps-family-in-room/
  25. There has been on and off talk over the years on this board of Brewers possibly moving their ST to FL. I have never been a fan of that line of thought and now I have another reason why I'm not a fan.....FL Spring Training ticket prices!!! Yikes! My family and I were in FL last week and we were talking about going to see the Braves game on Thursday night. About 2 hours before we were going to go I decided that I would just make sure seats were available. I looked at the Braves web site and the Berm was $30 and the Lawn was $40!! Those were the cheap seats!! What I don't understand is that when I look at ticket prices for tomorrow's Braves game it's $16 for the Berm and $23 for Lawn. So, not sure if they have some sort of demand pricing thing going on (although there seemed to be plenty of seats available for the game we wanted to go to), but still very high priced compared to the Brewers ST tix. Needless to say...we decided not to go. I decided to also look at Tiger's ticket prices for ST to see if it was a FL thing.....they were $20 for bleachers and $35 for the Berm!!! These are exhibition games where maybe half of the "stars" play in any particular game and usually for only half the game! Who's paying these prices to go to these games! And the berms at Atlanta's and Detroit's facility are pretty small. We have gone to ST in AZ about 10 times in the last 12 or 13 years. I believe Brewers Berm prices are $8 and the highest price ticket anywhere at Maryvale is $28. Most AZ parks have large berm areas that circle the entire outfield and you can usually get tickets out there on the day of the game for no more than $10. So..I hope the Brewers never move their ST to FL.
