  1. Guerra seems like one of the random bullcrap arms the Cards come up with most years. HE'S OURS.
  2. Guerra was at 95 mph on pitch #104ish. It's going to take a lot to get him.
  3. ANYONE is acquirable for the right price. To say they aren't is all just talk...there isn't any player in any sport that isn't tradeable if another team offers the right deal. Trout for Lucroy... and Lucroy.
  4. While we contemplate the idea of a Trevor Bauer for Lucroy deal... The Rangers have renewed interest in Lucroy. Plus maybe even more? http://sportsday.dallasnews.com/texas-rangers/rangers/2016/07/29/rangers-take-indirect-path-improve-pitching-rotation
  5. And FWIW, MLBTR ran an article today that placed Smith and Jeffress in the "Premium Relief Arms" available for trade category, along with Miller, Melancon, Davis, Robertson, Colome, and Vizcaino. Pretty good company. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/07/trade-market-for-relievers-3.html
  6. Guerra is one of the few pitchers on earth who can say he was robbed of a complete game by a ball bouncing off of the second base ump's noggin.
  7. Again, not talking about "commonly" - that's not what the poster I was responding to said. He did not qualify it by saying "some" or "most", it was a blanket statement. Absolutes and generalities usually don't make strong arguments. I agree that often relievers probably have less value in the offseason, though I also said it's possible that the value of Smith/Jeffress/Thornburg may well not be any different a year from now than it is today. The Brewers should get the best value for those guys when they can, whether that is today, tomorrow, 4 months from now, or a year from now.
  8. Wasn't comparing Kimbrel to Smith or Jeffress. Merely responding to the idea that relievers, as a whole, have less value in the offseason. Which seems not to be true. Yikes.
  9. There's a ton of cross-pollination in baseball circles. Agents know the front office, the front office knows the scouts, the scouts know the agents. The agents are the most likely to blab because their jobs aren't on the line if they get caught. I'm sure the average agent has a contact list full of pro scouts. Everyone talks.
  10. really looking forward to the lineup being posted tonight, will tell us alot about how imminent any move is. It would be a bad idea to put Lucroy in the lineup if there is a deal pending, no doubt. Unless it's just to put him on the field one more time, and then pull him before or right after the first pitch. Just as interesting to me will be to see if Manny Pina is in the lineup for the Sky Sox tonight. Same start time as the Brewers (they're in Nashville), though the Sky Sox' lineup will probably be posted after the Brewers'.
  11. Rosario, d'Arnaud, Szapucki, Wotell = sure.
  12. Could be, but look at what Kimbrel netted the Padres in the middle of last November. Predicting the future of the market is, in general, a fool's errand.
  13. My point was more, if Stearns mistimes this and isn't able to get the same type of return that other have gotten for their relievers, his trade-able relievers will still have the same value even if the market dictates a diminished return. It's not that if he doesn't trade them now, he won't be able to get anything for them later. As could be the case for Torres. And it's possible that the market for relievers won't change that much in the near term.
  14. Random tangent. I think I finally figured out why they called up Jake Elmore - if Lucroy is traded and they can't get Pina to Milwaukee in time for a game the same day, Elmore has pro catching experience (albeit extremely limited). In case Maldonado were to be hurt and removed from the game, at least they'd have someone who could play back there.
  15. The nice thing about Jeffress, Smith, and Thornburg is that they are all controlled through 2019. Assuming none of them implodes and they're all healthy at the end of the season, I don't think their value diminishes too much in the offseason, or maybe even into next year.
  16. That would appear to put the Indians, Red Sox, and Rangers at the fore, possibly in that order. Plus the mystery mystery team(s) and Mets on the periphery.
  17. David Lucroy might get Kopech at this rate. It truly is nuts. I've never seen anything like it in my time following the sport. That 2nd WC spot has completely changed the game.Except for Sandy "Underreach" Alderson, who is having nothing of it.
  18. David Lucroy might get Kopech at this rate.
  19. I would love to see the offer. Guarantee that Travis d'Arnaud was involved somehow. Alderson!
  20. Had to look to see if either Cashner or Rea were doing better than I thought they were, as that is the only way this made sense. Nope. Combined ERA of about 4.85 between the two of them. Nelson for Moncada.
  21. The Brewers should trade for Chase d'Arnaud, just to screw with the Mets.
  22. At the time, borderline. He was #14, #12, and #7 on BA's, MLB's, and BP's prospect lists, respectively entering the 2014 season. Since he was traded midseason he might have been a bit higher by that point.
  23. Not much buzz is not the same as no interest. Pretty darn close to it Maybe, maybe not. Can break it down even farther: "Not much" does not equal "no"; "Buzz" does not equal "interest."
  24. Heyman said this today: Not much buzz is not the same as no interest.
