  1. If we find out he's not eligible, I'll change my vote. I did a quick Google search and didn't find anything about when international FAs can be traded. The situation probably can't come up too often.
  2. Not completely sure if they can trade for him because he was a July 1 signing, but Stearns gets his catcher after all: David Garcia. They need to wait so long to make the PTBNL selection because Garcia's not eligible to even get on the field until instructionals after the minor league season concludes.
  3. http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/top-100-prospects-tools-2/#SoTEfm3e6UilSTQF.97 Thought it was interesting that his arm is rated as his best tool. He has a career CS% of 34%, though this year it's just 24%. If it's not his arm, it might be his footwork. Whatever it is, appears he's not great (nor horrible) at controlling the running game. Edit: MLB average CS% this year is 28.8%, which is a few points lower than I thought it was. I'll call his arm above average, footwork below average, and call it a day.
  4. There seemed to be a connection between Braun and Atlanta right before the trade deadline, insinuating that they offered to trade for Braun for a very small return to the Brewers. But the Brewers rebuffed them and they went and got Kemp instead. To that end, I'm not so sure he even gets past Atlanta on the waiver wire, as they can take another shot at getting Braun for a deep discount.
  5. I have a sneaking suspicion that there will be an overhaul of the development staff this coming offseason. There have been too many subpar performances versus standout performance this year to ignore. The talent is still there, but it's not going to mean anything if the coaching isn't.
  6. It's not arbitrary if we're #1. In that case, it's pure, objective, unadulterated #1. Once we go back to not #1, it's arbitrary.
  7. Play Two Early I see what you did there.
  8. Just wait until we grant clemency to Hoffy and Scoop.
  9. Suter pitches extremely quickly. He's the bizarro Doug Davis.
  10. Pinto is injured, and a FA after the season.
  11. Brinson legged out an infield single and then scored from first on a Garrett Cooper double.
  12. Brinson batting third and playing center for the Sky Sox.
  13. What teams also want is cheap talent. Torres isn't getting through waivers unless he has a crappy next few weeks.
  14. I don't think Torres gets very far on the waiver wire, so I doubt he'll be traded. Still has a few years of team control left. Could be a good offseason trade piece, or hope he replicates his 2016, and could be a valuable deadline piece next year.
  15. Between Williams and Kirby, it will be like two exciting new prospects next year.
  16. There was a roster spot due to the trade deadline?
  17. There's a considerable gap between having heard the name and caring enough about it to be any financial boon for the Brewers. The number of people who buy tickets this year specifically due to Arcia is high likely to be minuscule. I'd be curious if you took a survey of people inside of Miller Park, how many people would recognize the name Orlando Arcia, and also be able to name the position he plays. I'd put the over/under at 20%, and I think that might be generous.
  18. They might be lighting money on fire, but these are pretty smart people in charge of said money. Eventually you have to call prospects up, and if the scouting said that Arcia was ready to make the jump, then you call him up. The Brewers are trying to develop players to be contribute to the next Brewers' playoff run, not trying to manage the 2022 roster. Baseball is way too fluid to put too much emphasis on what will happen 6-7 years from now.
  19. I think you're overestimating how many casual fans know who Orlando Arcia is. Don't think the promotion in and of itself sells any appreciable number of extra seats this year. If he hits .400, people will buy more tickets and it is clear promoting him was the right call in the first place. If he hits .200, most people will remain oblivious and not buy the tickets they weren't buying anyway. I think this is first and foremost a baseball move. Let the big league coaches work with him, let's see what the Brewers have, and people here are happier because Ramon Flores gets less playing time.
  20. Villar has some OF experience. Maybe they throw him out there to see if he can handle it. As mentioned, Perez has seen a fair amount of OF time as well. As to the service time thing, he was coming up in September anyway. If he doesn't make the club out of spring training next year, his service clock is still manageable.
  21. 1. Arcia 2. Hader 3. Brinson 4. L. Ortiz 5. Bickford 6. Phillips 7. I. Diaz 8. T. Clark 9. C. Ray 10. M. Diplan 11. Lara 12. Woodruff 13. Lopez 14. Ponce 15. Erceg 16. Harrison 17. Nottingham 18. Peralta 19. D. Williams 20. Reed 21. M. Diaz 22. T. Taylor 23. C. Burnes 24. Orimoloye 25. Medeiros 26. Kirby 27. Ventura 28. Wang 29. Perrin 30. McDowell
  22. Per TH, Stearns' quote on the PTBNL is: A couple of months after the minor league season is after the World Series. Not to parse the wording too much, but that seems overly specific. Betting it's a 2016 draft pick.
  23. Stearns said Pina would get a shot on the major league roster, with Susac going to AAA.
