And there's the problem. He not only has had rough luck staying on the field, he's not long for the catching position. Like I said before, if he's part of the trade, that's fine, but he should not be the main piece to a trade. Way too much risk with him.
there appears to be a "mystery team." This is pretty much the best confirmation you can get that a deal will happen. I think MLBTR even tracked "mystery team" references a few years ago.
Can't believe Henry Blanco hasn't been brought up yet. Hank the Tank! It actually is amazing to me that he played 12 more season in the big leagues after he left the Brewers as a 30 year old backup catcher in 2001.
I had the Brewers getting Szapucki and Wotell as part of a Lucroy deal with the Mets in a post yesterday. Clearly I am being plagerized. And that seems light for Jeffress.
I mentioned Tati, buried about 30 pages ago. Jorma Rodriguez is another guy on their AZL squad that it seems like Stearns would like. Taylor was drafted this year, can't be traded.

Since the calendar turned to May, Austin Ross has a 2.68 ERA, with 14 BBs and 53 Ks in 47 IP. Only 36 hits and 3 HR allowed as well. If the Brewers end up dealing off relievers, I think I'd bring up Ross before Magnifico, Goforth, or Scahill.
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/07/blue-jays-agree-to-acquire-melvin-upton.html For an unnamed A-ball player, and the Padres are paying a lot of his remaining salary. Upton has been decent this year and last at the plate after a brutal few years in Atlanta. Looks like a good deal for the Blue Jays.
Isn't that the exact reason Lucroy needs to be traded now, instead of later? It's true that most teams buying at this point are buying for this year, but future value is definitely worth something.
Still a bit surprised the Yankees are choosing to sell. They are over 500 and 4.5 out of the wild card. I mean, good for them if they're being honest with themselves about the talent on the roster and its ability to get to the postseason, but this just generally seems like an un-Yankee thing to do.
I agree the one game is neither here nor there, but Smith's sample size for the velo drop and K rate crash is 23 games. 154 games pitched in the last two years combined with the aforementioned performance issues this season makes me more than a little nervous about Smith's prospects going forward. If the Brewers get a good but not great offer for him, I think they should be inclined to consider it.
While Smith/Jeffress/Thornburg may not be elite, they are all good to very good and controllable through 2019. There's a ton of value in the control factor.
