  2. John Sickles' mock draft has the Brewers taking Riley Pint. Minor League Ball also did a community 4 round (!) mock draft. They agree with Sickles on the Pint pick, and also had the Brewers taking: 2. Anfernee Grier, OF, Auburn CBB. Matt Krook, LHP, U of Oregon 3. Nick Lodolo, LHP, California HS 4. Nick Quintana, INF, Nevada HS Grier is one of fastest players in the draft and a plus defender in CF to boot. Krook is a big (6'3) lefty with a low-90s fastball and a curve with some inconsistency in his mechanics. Lodolo is an even bigger (6'6) lefty, also with a low-90s fastball and a curve with some inconsistency in his mechanics. Quintana has a big arm, would probably start out at SS, and has some power as well - going by the picture, last name, and place of residence I also believe he's the younger brother of Brewers 2012 3rd round pick (and now a Brave farmhhand) Zach Quintana.
  3. 1.9 Corey Ray Don't think he falls further than this.
  4. Scouting Kevin Maitan And Four Other Top Shortstops For July 2 (subscription required) Once again, nothing Brewers related.
  5. I think Corey Ray keeps falling for at least one more pick, and despite Rutherford's California roots, 1.8 Braxton Garrett With a number of teams having large bonus pools, it might make sense for one of them to not go underslot early and nab the good players while they're there. At-slot signings are the new market inefficiency?
  6. Guerra has the best WAR on the Brewers' staff, by about half a win over Jimmy Nelson.
  7. Agreed, though it'll force their hand on someone without options.
  8. Sadly didn't catch any of the T-Rats game, but Miguel Diaz with a huge bounce-back game. Move Johnny Davis and Garett Cooper up already.
  9. Barnes has really tighten up his slider since last I saw him. That sharp little late 1 to 7 break at 90-91 is pretty nasty. As long as he can keep it down, that's a major league strikeout pitch. Fastball still pretty straight, though.
  10. 1/3 of the way through the season and on pace for 75 wins. Pretty poor tanking job so far. They'd have to play .343 ball the rest of the way to lose 100 games.
  11. How about... maybe no starters get dropped and they go with a 6-man rotation? If there was any year they would try it, it would be this one.
  12. While it is true that the players need to have some baseline level of maturity to be considered for the move stateside, talent and performance are still the overiding factors. The Brewers have developed programs to assimilate Latin players into American culture, and with so many Latin players in the Brewers system, there are always people to lean on. Good to see Luna, Nova, and Otano moved stateside after all. Thought Feliciano might go too due to his physical maturity, but apparently not yet.
  13. The Rangers, and to a sightly lesser extent the Nationals, have gotten good offensive production from their catchers but if those teams are being honest with themselves, they know it isn't likely to continue. Both of those teams have the top end prospects to complete a deal. The A's and Tigers are both still on the fringes of contention and could be in a position to make a deal with a prolonged hot streak. Finally, it's not out of the question that Lucroy could be dealt to the Cubs.
  14. A newly created team would have to be admitted to either the IL or PCL. It would probably be easier to buy an existing team and move them. They could certainly try buying the Sky Sox franchise.
  15. I get the Perez argument for the A's, but Senzel is just too much of an A's guy... 1.6 Nick Senzel
  16. I wouldn't be surprised to see Peralta go on the DL with shoulder fatigue or some such.
  17. Three players on that roster were born in 1999... oi vey. On the flip side, Osmel is still not the oldest player on the roster. Surprised that Luna, Nova, Otano, and Feliciano are all still in the DSL.
  18. I keep saying it... Flores has a great swing and a good eye. He's lacking for power and speed, but given the chance the bat will play.
  19. I know why he's in the 6th place, but... ... Jorge Soler is in 6th place. Yikes. The shortstop voting is pretty bizarre as well.
  20. Narey a mention of the Brewers in Ben Badler's July 2 signing preview (subscription required).
  21. I have a sneaking suspicion that they would take Perez in this scenario, but as a last name that is too perfect to pass up for the Brewers... 1.5 Riley Pint If it means anything, the DBacks took Touki Toussaint in the middle of a run on college players in the 2014 1st round, and Montgomery took Trent Clark in last year's first round.
  22. We may not have seen the last of Walsh. Wouldn't be surprised to see the Brewers trade for his rights. They wouldn't have let him go this long if they didn't think he had some future value. I could see them giving up an Eric Hanhold-type prospect to retain Walsh.
  23. Ramirez hasn't been designated for assignment before, so perhaps DFA him right away, hope he clears waivers, and stash him in AAA? Andy Wilkins still has a 40-man spot - he seem to be the guy most in jeopardy to me. They could also give up on Walsh... he's barely played recently. I assume Goforth gets sent back down, but I was assuming they'd send him back when Smith was activated in a few days. They could also go with an 8-man pen, I guess. Goforth could also be DFA'd. I don't know that he'd be claimed, and if he was I don't think that it would be a huge loss.
