  3. Box: Biloxi 4, Mobile 2 Grisham's Four-Hit Day Leads Shuckers To Fourth Straight Win Biloxi Tops BayBears 4-2, Have Won 10 of Last 12 By Garrett Greene / Biloxi Shuckers Big day for Trent Grisham, who despite another low batting average, has been pounding the ball around the diamond this year.
  4. Carolina Pre-Game Media Notes *** Box: Down East 3, Carolina 1 Carolina Drops Second Straight to Down East 3-1 on Sunday Night Ryan Aguilar hit his second home run of the season in the loss for the Mudcats 7 hits and 4 walks but only one run, a solo shot from Ryan Aguilar. Braden Webb's struggles continue unabated after the demotion from Biloxi. *** VIDEO Tweet: Aguilar's 2nd HR
  5. OF Tyrone Taylor to the Missions' 7-day DL. OF Michael O'Neill transferred from Biloxi to San Antonio. OF Joantgel Segovia transferred from Carolina to Biloxi. INF Julio Garcia transferred from Rocky Mountain to Carolina.
  6. San Antonio Pre-Game Media Notes *** Box: San Antonio 7, Memphis 4 Saladino Gives Memphis the Blues New Missions LF/leadoff man Michael O'Neill (not to be confused with and not related to Redbirds LF Tyler O'Neill) found himself on base four times, there was another Saladinger, and the Missions scored 5 times in the final three frames to come from behind.
  7. Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes *** Box: Quad Cities 8, Wisconsin 4 Rattlers Rock River Bandits 9-4 Fry extends hitting streak to 17 games for Wisconsin By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Logan Gillaspie with his first rough start as a pro. David Fry continues to hit, but will need to be patient because it does appear that there will be a catching opening in Carolina any time soon, and he has defensive things to work on anyway.
  8. Burnes and Rasmussen do not have almost identical stuff. They both throw hard and throw sliders, but that’s about it. Burnes gets much higher spin rates and more cut. Rasmussen has two average to plus offspeed pitches he uses to get outs. Besides the slider, Rasmussen throws a good changeup. Burnes has thrown a changeup in the minors, but not many recently (if any) in the majors. Rasmussen’s change is ahead of Burnes’ curve. Rasmussen doesn’t throw a curve. Rasmussen works better up in the zone. In general, Burnes needs to keep his stuff down.

  10. Box: Biloxi 5, Mobile 0 Another day, another shutout for the Shuckers' staff. It was a Drew Rasmussen Day. Drew issued a career-high 3 walks, though from the two innings I saw, his command was consistent with his previous work. He also issued a career-high 73 pitches. He recorded all of his outs via K or ground ball. No game story posted.
  11. Carolina Pre-Game Media Notes *** Box: Down East 6, Carolina 4 Wood Ducks Escape with Series Tying 6-4 Victory Versus Carolina Mario Feliciano and Tristen Lutz both homered in the last at bat loss to the Wood Ducks in Zebulon After victory from the jaws of defeat yesterday, turnabout on Saturday. Clayton Andrews, so good so far this year, gives up the 3-run dinger in the top of the 9th. Tristen Lutz has a 951 OPS in May. And Mario Feliciano, who hit his league-leading 9th home run, is about 3 months *younger* than Lutz. *** VIDEO Tweet: Feliciano's 9th HR VIDEO Tweet: Lutz' 5th HR
  12. San Antonio Pre-Game Media Notes *** Box: San Antonio 4, Memphis 0 Missions Whitewash Redbirds There's a joke here about Cardinals fans, but we'll stay away from it. As the game story mentions, league-leading seventh shutout of the year for the Missions. The Missions' staff sports a AAA-best 3.74 ERA on the year, about a full 1.5 runs less than the PCL average ERA. That's outstanding work by the Brewers putting together that group and the Brewers' minor league instructors getting results. Saturday starter Aaron Wilkerson has given up just 2 ER in 32+ innings of work for the Missions.
  13. Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes *** Box: Wisconsin 9, Quad Cities 4 Rattlers Rock River Bandits 9-4 Hill collects 7 Ks and Fry keeps his hitting streak rolling for Wisconsin By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers The 7-8-9 hitters in the order - Gabby Garcia, Je'Von Ward, and Korry Howell - contributed 6 hits and combined to hit for the cycle. Howell, playing CF again, still has not seen any time in the infield. Chris Mehring keeps referring to him as a "shortstop playing the outfield" so perhaps there's some tacit indication that we will indeed see Howell at SS and 3B at some point this season. Robbie Hitt has given up 8 runs over his last two outings, spanning 5 outs. His ERA has jumped a bit. Adam Hill has been fine for the most part this year, and was today as well, though the sinker/slider profile isn't the most electrifying.
  14. I'll just leave it at this. Rasmussen has fewer than 30 pro innings and is already pitching in AA. So he's already accomplished what takes most pitchers hundreds of innings to accomplish if they do it at all. Less than half of the innings it took Brendan McKay. He also has so few pro innings that it's next to impossible to try to find much meaning looking at his stat line. He's doing slightly worse against better hitters - I personally do not find this surprising or worrying. It's also 10 innings of work. Again, the stuff is still there. The results will follow.
  15. Alexis Ramirez will be in my top 25 next time. Certainly Logan Gillaspie as well.
  16. This is being regarded by some as a historically bad draft class. With that in mind, this might actually be the best year to give up the 39th pick for a sure thing.
  17. OFP is generally given in increments of 5, so I would be curious to see where you saw a 34. I haven't seen a 35 or even 40 on him. Some of Dubon's publically available recent OFP grades: BA: 45 BPro: 50 MLB Pipeline: 50 FG: 45 Prospects Live: 45 Baseball HQ: 50 Basically, either 45 or 50, depending on who you talk to. FanGraphs are more conservative than most on their OFP (they call it FV) ratings, so if they have a 45 on him, that's basically the baseline.
  18. Dubon has more than a little value, how much depends on how other teams value him as an MLB prospect. At a 45 OFP (utility/part-time starter), he's worth about $10.5 MM in excess value. If you're more bullish and think he's a 50 OFP (average MLB starter), he's worth about $26MM in excess value.
  19. The Brewers helped Lyles reinvent his curveball. His curve is now, shockingly, the reason behind the success he's had with the Pirates this year. So the Brewers basically developed Lyles for the Pirates. You're welcome, division rival.
  20. In addition to continuing on with the Pat McInerney experiment at third base, the Mudcats have Clayton Andrews starting in center field today. Checked in on the game and no, that is not a box score error. Andrews was a 2-way player in college, so who knows where this will go.
  21. DRA- has him at a 70. Contextually, he's having about the season he should be having. I thought it was a weird move at the time it happened. I can go dig up a link if you'd like.
  22. Not picking up Lyles' option remains one of the most baffling moves of Stearns' tenure, IMO. Not quit signing Neftali Feliz bad, but close.
  23. No - I'm talking about what he is right now. His stuff hasn't changed at all since being promoted from Carolina to Biloxi. With his current stuff and a modest uptick in command, he could help the Brewers later this year, if that's how they choose to use him. 6 innings (or now 10 innings) of data doesn't change that unless there's an underlying reason for a change in the data. As far as I can tell, any change in the data is just due to noise. That he struck out a few fewer guys his first two times out in the Southern League is a shrug. Rasmussen would probably be a usable low leverage reliever at the MLB level right now. Refinements over the next few months will dictate whether or not the Brewers decide to commit to him as a higher leverage reliever in MLB later this year.
  24. 2018 5th round RHP Justin Jarvis has been transferred from Rocky Mountain to Wisconsin. The 19 year old will start the second game of Wisconsin’s doubleheader today. He replaces a fellow 19 year old RHP Justin, Bullock, who has been transferred to Rocky Mountain.
