  1. Probably the least surprising news of the offseason. Surprised it took this long. Also a little surprised that Arnold was not promoted to GM.
  2. Someone resurrect the Ryan Braun to Practice at 2B thread.
  3. As McCalvey mentioned on Twitter, the park immediately to Milwaukee's south is named after gum. Life goes on.
  4. Cabrera is not good at the defense. If the Brewers thought he was even passable at second base, they probably give him this deal and then some.
  5. He's a pretty prominent member of #BrewersTwitter, and has (not recently) "broken" news before. It's easy to be dismissive, but take it for what you think it's worth.
  6. Petricka does have 2 options remaining but also needs just 15 days on the active roster to reach 5 years of service time and the ability to refuse option and outright assignments. His proximity to five years of service would seem to make it likely he begins the year in the minor leagues and burns an option.
  7. Actually, the Brewers just made the part up to troll Nate Orf.
  8. Some post-Rule 5 protection roster movement. Transferred from Biloxi to San Antonio: OF Corey Ray Transferred from San Antonio to Biloxi: C Max McDowell, UT Dillon Thomas Transferred from San Antonio to Carolina: INF Julio Garcia, RHP Nelson Hernandez, RHP Alec Kenilvort, RHP Christian Meister, INF Tucker Neuhaus, RHP Michael Petersen. All players on the AZL Brewers roster have been transferred to the AZL Brewers Gold roster.
  9. Clearly all of my gushing about Miguel Sanchez for the past few years has not been enough.
  10. This is the closest to where I'd land at the moment, and as wildcat mentioned, Burch Smith is going to be a factor as well in some fashion. It's also not out of the realm of possibility that Nelson and/or Guerra and/or Davies wind up in AAA to begin the year. All have options remaining and Nelson still doesn't have enough service time to reject the option. In fact I'd guess at least one of them does start in AAA unless there's a rash of injuries in spring training. It's also important to remember that the Brewers are moving away from defined starter/reliever roles, so some spots in the AAA rotation may work similarly to how they do piggybacking in the lower minor leagues. Best current guess at a AAA staff, assuming Nelson/Davies/Guerra start with the big club: 3-6 inning pitchers: Zack Brown, Bubba Derby, Freddy Peralta, Burch Smith, Trey Supak, Aaron Wilkerson, one of Zach Davies/Junior Guerra/Jimmy Nelson 1-2 inning pitchers: Tristan Archer, Deolis Guerra, Jon Olczak, Jake Petricka, Miguel Sanchez, Bobby Wahl
  11. If Taylor was DFA’d tomorrow, cleared waivers and was outrighed, the Brewers would retain his rights on a minor league contract for the 2019 season.
  12. Not that it doesn't work but on the open market, teams tend to pay 2-3x for WAR for relief pitchers versus what they pay for starting pitchers. This has been a persistent trend for quite a long while now. So when valuing a trade, you have to consider open mark deviation between the two types of pitchers. Teams will pay for more relievers, as a general rule.
  13. Burch Smith sounds like the name of an ill-fated sheriff in a mid 1960's western. Also, he throws a FB/CH/CB, and I would imagine slot into San Antonio's rotation. He misses bats (especially with his FB) and I would not be surprised to see him in Milwaukee at some point. He was a Rule 5 pick last year and spent all season on KC's roster after recovering from Tommy John and missing all of '15-'16. Would probably benefit from re-asserting himself against AAA hitters.
  14. LeMahieu is a good, but probably out of the Brewers' budget range at this point.
  15. The Brewers released 19yo LHP Luis Cordero, who missed all of 2018 with an undisclosed injury.
  16. Harrison's career OBP is .007 less than Dozier's, FWIW. I've always liked the guy, would be happy to see the Brewers get him.
  17. Yeah, sometimes things are taken too far... I don't like Brian Dozier... How dare I...
  18. "Between that and his 2018 output" - my point being, if the choice is between a mediocre player and a mediocre player who is also a dink, I take the non-dink. There are lots of same-ish options out there at second base, Dozier included.
  19. Seems like a perfectly reasonable position. Thank you!
  20. Dozier is a big "unwritten rules" guy - between that and his 2018 output, hard pass. Seriously pass.
  21. Even looks like he might be related: http://www.milb.com/images/681928/t403/180x270/681928.jpg
  22. There are differences between them, most notably that Lyles can go extended innings. You take on the whopping $3.5 million to provide depth and take a chance on Lyles’ upside. All three of them would have received considerable big league time had they all stayed healthy. Again, go back to that Morton thread. Someone literally brought up Wei-Chung Wang as a reason why the Brewers didn’t need Morton. My point is, the “we already have enough good pitchers” argument in December/January almost always looks ridiculous by the time you get to June/July.
  23. C Mike Alescio was also released. Not sure why Brewers didn’t mention it in their tweet.
  24. In order for the Brewers to dump Thames' salary, they have to either: a)Include a prospect/prospect package with him in order to pay someone to take him off of their hands; or, b)Trade for a player of similar value (i.e. an overpaid player), maybe at a position the Brewers could use more help at; or, c)Hope he gets off to a hot start this season and boosts his trade value.
