  1. I'd be way, WAAAAYYYY happier if the Brewers weren't drafting relievers. I guess I'm not that concerned that they drafted someone that the MLB scouting pool writers didn't get around to writing about. As long as we're using the criteria of "It's ok to draft player X without a scouting report on MLB.com, but definitely not player Y," Cooper was the 4th college player sans scouting report drafted, and the 5th was taken the pick right after him. Might he be a terrible pick? Absolutely. He might be a good player, too. I wouldn't fret about the scouting report thing, but then again, do what you want.
  2. He's about the 10th or 12th guy drafted without an MLB.com scouting report. Imagine the shock and horror of Royals fans when they took a guy at #82 overall without a scouting report.
  3. Last year's 15th round pick, RHP Buck Farmer from Georgia Tech, was just drafted in the 5th round by the Tigers. Good move for him not to sign last year, apparently.
  4. I haven't followed the draft process at all this year - is Chris Okey considered a tough sign? If the Brewers could get him, seems like the perfect opportunity to move Coulter out from behind the plate.
  5. The Brewers are cornering the market on pitching Williamses.
  6. Paciorek has played in the Brewers' minor league system for parts of six years now, and has never eclipsed the 200 AB mark.
  7. As noted at the tail end of that article, the T-Rats are one under the roster limit. That addition could well be Roache - the only other regular outfielders on the roster are Haniger and Taylor. That's going to be a stacked OF if/when Roache is added.
  8. A Shawn Zarraga sighting in Brad's last photo gallery.
  9. Whelp, there's our annual Bronswell Patrick reference.
  10. Well, this is pretty genius, and something you never would have seen even a few years ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=u9_RcD6WMmM Too bad Jake doesn't say anything, though. They should have had him leave the set for a few minutes.
  11. It's pretty clear from the recent promos posted on WWE.com and all that Glenn Beck nonsense that they're moving forward with Swagger in the title program. They're going to a lot of effort on this if they're just going to have someone else go against ADR at WM. And they need to make the effort. Even without the DUI arrest, this match is a hard sell for a WM main event. A guy who was a heel a few months ago who is now a pandering babyface vs a guy who wasn't wrestling in WWE a month ago and is apparently playing a racist. I'll buy two.
  12. I thought this was the most interesting take on the Swagger situation - hotshot a title match between Swagger and Del Rio as soon as this Monday and then bring in a replacement for Swagger who can "get it done" for Coulter. There's an insignificant chance that they bring in a guy like Chris Hero (erm, Kassius Ohno), Brodie Lee (erm, Luke Harper) or Bray Wyatt, but still interesting to think about. I will definitely be tuning in to see how this goes down. I didn't see Main Event tonight, but evidently there was a video package featuring Swagger/Coulter and if they weren't going forward with Swagger, you'd think they would have had time to pull the package out in post-production.
  13. The IRS has a pretty nifty withholding calculator on their website (that is of course unavailable at the moment) if you're interested in how to get as close to no refund or payment as possible. Of course you do need to guess about potential deductions and credits, so it's sort of a crapshoot and could be outright wrong if your situation changes significantly. We got about $1000 back this year in our federal return (criminy), but had to pay almost that much into the state (hooray), so we broke about even.
  14. the wwe is reporting that McMahon has a broken hip and will need surgery. not sure if this is legit or not. definitely sets up triple H's return to TV and a match with Lesnar at Wrestlemania. Definitely not legit, but yeah it definitely sets up HHH coming back. That was pretty obvious. Didn't think it would happen this early though, which makes it more interesting. Also the way it happened makes it interesting too. McMahon did in fact have hip replacement surgery, but the F-5 was not the cause. Just convenient storyline timing.
  15. A link to an Angelfire page - whoa. I haven't seen that name since... '99.
  16. For those DVRing Raw tonight, feel free and fast-forward through the first 2 hours, 14 minutes and counting. Painfully boring. Edit: 3 hours and six minutes in, I think they're setting up a Bruno Sammartino/Punk feud.
  17. It's not often you can create a whole offseason fire sale in one transaction. Loria is an innovator.
  18. The thing I don't get about what they're not doing with Ambrose is that the guy can be a heat magnet... he doesn't necessarily need a program with Foley or pre-produced vignettes to get over. Made even stranger that they're not really using him much with NXT either, though I think I read that he wrestled at their last set of tapings. His program with Regal to close down FCW was just about the best thing that happened in wrestling this year and then all the sudden, nothing.
  19. Maddox is a really good talker - I didn't love his promo, but I'm sure he was directed to do the timid thing. He's pretty decent in the ring, too. I hope they don't give up on him. I'm watching NXT right now, and can't wait to see Bray Wyatt come up to the main roster. The guy may have the most original act the WWE has seen in a decade.
  20. The Brewers might have paid him a little more, or maybe were the only team to guarantee him a 40-man spot. Or maybe Olmsted thought Milwaukee presented him with the best opportunity to contribute at the major league level the soonest. He was a FA - there was no claim order.
  21. This dude is an inch taller than me, at least 40 pounds heavier, and his mustache is 100x sweeter. I feel as humbled as I've ever been.
