  1. Ray's 2nd home run gives him the Southern League lead with 15. Saw most of Ortiz' outing. Slider was nasty as ever but in a recurring theme, he's been having trouble locating his FB for good strikes. He left a number of them over the plate in the first inning and got hit hard. He seems to be stuck in the middle about where he wants to establish his FB. In the past, it's been lower in the zone, but it seems like he wants to establish higher like Supak does. Unfortunately, he's regularly not getting them high enough. (If that's what he's even going for). Which is a shame, because when his fastball is on, it compliments his slider perfectly. Hiura's timing seems off. He was late on a number of pitches he's usually not late on.
  2. Corey Ray just went oppo taco on the very first pitch he saw in the bottom of the 1st. The pitch was high and away - I don't think it gets said enough how strong Ray is. Impressive.
  3. 17th round pick and 5'6 LHP Clayton Andrews has been promoted from Helena to Wisconsin.

  5. Final: AZL Dodgers 8, AZL Brewers 7 AZL Brewers Box Score The Baby Brewers had a 6-0 lead going into the bottom of the 5th, but the Dodgers scored 8 of the final 9 runs of the game and walked off the good guys with a 2-run homer. CF Micah Bello, 3B Edwin Sano, DH Mike Alescio, and LF Francis Florentino all had two hits; Bello and Florentino each knocked a double and Bello walked once and stole a base as well. Bello is slashing .346/.433/.500 through 61 PAs, with an impressive 8:9 BB:K ratio, and 8 stolen bases in 9 attempts. AZL Brewers Game Log 3-run 4th would give the Brewers their biggest lead: AZL Brewers Top of the 4th Mike Alescio flies out to right fielder Ismael Alcantara. Francis Florentino doubles (2) on a line drive to right fielder Ismael Alcantara. Orveo Saint walks. Luis Avila triples (2) on a line drive to right fielder Ismael Alcantara. Francis Florentino scores. Orveo Saint scores. Micah Bello doubles (2) on a fly ball to right fielder Ismael Alcantara. Luis Avila scores. With Edwin Sano batting, missed catch error by Tim Locastro on the pickoff attempt, Micah Bello to 3rd. Edwin Sano strikes out swinging. Alex Hall grounds out, shortstop Donovan Solano to first baseman Sauryn Lao.
  6. Final: Idaho Falls 15, Helena 8 Chukars Blow Out Brewers In Series Opener Helena Allows Season High In Runs & Hits By Greg Mroz / Helena Brewers Idaho Falls, ID - The Idaho Falls Chukars came into tonight's ballgame with the Helena Brewers as the league's best offense, hitting .304 (1st) as a team and averaging 7.2 runs per game (2nd). Their trends continued against the Brewers, as the Chukars scored 15 runs on 17 hits, both season highs allowed by the Brewers. Helena managed to hit three home runs, but couldn't muster enough to outslug the Chukars, falling 15-8. Justin Bullock got the first two he faced in the first inning, but back to back singles from Kyle Isbel and Nate Eaton kept the inning alive for Reed Rohlman, who hit a blast to deep right center field, giving Idaho Falls the early 3-0 lead. Chukars started JC Cloney (W, 5-0) retired the first five that he faced, but then surrendered a solo bomb to Nick Egnatuk in the second, getting the Brewers on the board. In the second, the Brewers got to within a run, as three straight hits plated a run and put two in scoring position with nobody out. Cloney bore down and got the next three, keeping the Chukars in the lead. The failure to cash in further came back to bite Helena, as Idaho Falls scored twice in the third inning, with the RBIs coming from Eaton and Rohlman. Against Jenri Montas in the fourth, Idaho Falls sent all nine men to the plate, scoring three to extend the lead to 8-2. David Fry hit a three run homer to cut the deficit in half in the fifth, and the Brewers loaded the bases with two out against Jose Ramirez in the sixth, putting the tying run at first. Ramirez came back to strike out Jean Carmona to end the inning, and spoiling the last good chance the Brewers had to tie the game. Idaho Falls came back with two in the sixth, and after Pablo Abreu hit a two run homer in the eighth to get Helena back within three, the Chukars put the Brewers away for good with a five run eighth. Reed Rohlman finished the day with 7 RBI, a new career high. The Brewers look to even the series tomorrow as they send Wilfred Salaman to the hill. Idaho Falls counters with CJ Eldred, the son of Kansas City Royals pitching coach Cal Eldred. First pitch is at 7:15, with the pregame show hitting the airwaves of helenabrewers.net at 7:00. *** Additional game story from 406 MT Sports. *** Helena Box Score The Brewers came into the game leading the league in team ERA with a 3.82 mark. Not anymore as that balloons to 4.28 after this catastrophe. I actually liked what I saw from Justin Bullock, he's just been prone to blow-up innings this year. He has a solid FB/CH/CB combo with the change looking like it could become a plus pitch. There's been more consistency on offense lately, which is nice to see. The team got on base 16 times and got 2 home runs from David Fry, and one each from Nick Egnatuk and Pablo Abreu. I'm a big fan of Abreu, so nice to see him show off some power. Helena Game Log
  7. Basically right, but not entirely true. Ortiz slid down draft boards a bit in 2014 due to a forearm issue he had as a HS senior.
  8. I am convinced Ybor City is not even a real place. All this needs is sharks with lasers.
  9. Per Brewers PD: RHP Jose Cuas and RHP Kody Rock have been released from the Wisconsin and Helena rosters respectively. No corresponding move on the Wisconsin roster announced yet, though activating Bowden Francis off of the Temp Inactive List would make some sense.
  10. I would be concerned about Luis Ortiz passing the Orioles' platinum-standard physical examination. I know it's mostly been hamstring problems with Ortiz in the recent past, but I feel as though the Orioles would be leery of him. Because, Orioles.
  11. The AZL Brewers and AZL Mariners do not play again this season (odd), so I would assume this game will not be made up.
  12. Indeed, all DSL games postponed. Since we're almost at the end of the first half I imagine the regularly scheduled game will be cancelled and they'll try to get the suspended game in tomorrow as part of a new double-header.
  13. DSL Brewers are today scheduled to finish a game suspended by rain back on June 23rd, and then play their regularly scheduled game in a 7-inning contest. HOWEVER, the Dominican side of the Hispaniola island has been blanketed by rain all morning and it looks like that's going to carry on through the afternoon. I would be surprised if either game gets in.

  15. One thing working very slightly against Lutz is that he was on the older side for a HS draftee last year. He turns 20 in about 6 weeks. Mario Feliciano is actually 3 months younger than Lutz, for reference. Demi Orimoloye, drafted 3 years ago now, is only about a year and a half older than Lutz.
  16. I wish they would've been Haboobed out. I believe the term is Haboobout.
  17. Four days after adding him to the DSL roster, the Brewers have released this Luis Ortiz. Taking his place on the DSL roster, yet another RHP/Ortiz, 16-year-old Robert Ortiz. He's been activated from the team's Restricted List. Another 16-year-old, C Eduin Lugo, was activated off of the Restricted List for the DSL co-op team.
  18. He's in a slump. Happens with baseball players now and again.
  19. AZL Brewers rained out. Yes that’s a true sentence.

  21. RHP Aaron Brooks activated from the Temporary Inactive List for Colorado Springs, which brings the Sky Sox roster back to a full 25 players. C/RHP Joel Munoz placed on the DSL co-op's Suspended List. Could be any number of reasons for this.
  22. Undrafted FA RHPs Tate Budnick and Tyler Tungate have been promoted from the AZL to Helena. Helena now has 3 open slots on its 35-man roster. The AZL club has one open slot on its own 35-man roster after last night's activation of Korry Howell. Draft picks Brice Turang, Reece Olson, and Wade Beasley all still need to be activated. Jolon Lun could still be activated as well.
  23. Final: AZL Brewers 8, AZL Rangers 3 AZL Brewers Box Score A quartet of Latin players had 2 hits on Sunday night: LF Francis Florentino (2-3, 2B), 2B Edwin Sano (2-5, 2B), C Luis Avalo (2-4, 2B, BB), and 1B Aaron Familia (2-4). Florentino entered the game in the bottom of the 4th as a defensive replacement for Micah Bello. Bello missed the past few games and after being pulled early in this one after running the bases, it might be fair to guess that he's working through some sort of leg issue. Or maybe not. 12th round pick Korry Howell made his pro debut, starting at shortstop. He went 1-4, picking up his first pro hit on an infield single in the 8th. Joel Pinto started the game and worked the first 5 innings pretty successfully, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits and 2 walks, while striking out 5. Young Cam Robinson pitched 1 inning of scoreless relief, though he may have been scheduled for more had the game not been delayed between the 6th and 7th innings by "wind" (haboob?). Michael Mediavilla allowed his first pro run in his 2 innings of work, while Jesus Brea ran his season-opening scoreless streak to 7.1 innings with a perfect 9th. AZL Brewers Game Log
  24. Final: Helena 6, Billings 3 Eighth Inning Rally Pushes Brewers To Series Split Helena Scores Five Times In Last Two Innings By Greg Mroz / Helena Brewers HELENA, MT - After a heartbreaking loss last night, the Brewers reset themselves on Sunday, using a three run rally in the eighth to break a 3-3 tie, downing Billings 6-3 to split the two game series. Helena is now 13-11 and will finish the night no worse than a game back of first. The lead had teetered back and forth all game long, with Helena taking the lead in the first on an infield single from Pablo Abreu, with the runner at second, LG Castillo, scoring on a throwing error. Reshard Munroe then tied the game in the top of the third with a solo blast, his second of the season. Starters Max Lazar for Helena and Jared Solomon for Billings dealt going into the sixth, but poor defense from the Brewers gave the Mustangs their first lead of the ballgame. Dylan Harris spanked a leadoff single into center field, and then advanced to second on a throwing error. Another error got him to third, and Munroe singled him in, giving Billings the 2-1 lead. The Brewers got the lead back in the seventh, as after Nick Egnatuk singled, Castillo hit his first career homer. The two run blast gave Helena the 3-2 lead, but Billings tied the game in the top of the eighth, as Pabel Manzanero singled home Munroe, who reached on a one out walk. Jake Wyrick (L, 0-1) finished the seventh inning, but issued a leadoff walk to David Fry in the eighth. Eddie Silva then put a bunt down, but Wyrick booted it trying to field it, and both runners were safe. Egnatuk then put a bunt of his own down, and Wyrick fielded it and threw it to third. It was a close play, but Fry was ruled safe at third, loading the bases with nobody out. Billings manager Ray Martinez then went to his ace in the hole, Jeremy Kivel, pitching for the third time in four days. Facing Castillo, Kivel threw a wild pitch that scored Fry, and Castillo then singled two home, extending the lead to three. Roberto Delgado (W, 2-1) earned the win, pitching 0.2 innings of scoreless relief. Peter Strzelecki pitched a perfect ninth, earning his second save. The Brewers finish their Northern Division slate at 13-11, with 14 games left to go in the first half. The Brewers have tomorrow off, and then travel to Idaho Falls on Tuesday for their first matchup of the year with the Chukars. Justin Bullock starts for Helena, while Idaho Falls counters with JC Cloney. First pitch is at 7:15, with the pregame show hitting the airwaves of helenabrewers.net at 6:55. *** Photos/additional game story from 406 MT Sports. *** Helena Box Score Helena Game Log
  25. It's likely that Devin Williams will be protected if he's healthy through the end of the year. McDowell will be considered. He’s a special defensive catcher with offensive upside remaining. I feel as though people are completely glossing over the season Jon Olczak has had. His curve is nasty.
