  2. The only one I'm aware of is here: https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/top-30-prospects-milwaukee-brewers/ Michele Vassalotti, RHP – A 17-year-old Italian righty who posted a 1.63 ERA as a 16-year-old in the DSL, Vassalotti sits 90-93 and throws strikes with three pitches. He’s physically mature for a teenager, and his lower arm slot might cause platoon issues down the road. Let’s hope he’s a sign that baseball is growing in Italy, where there is currently too much relaxing and enjoyment of fine foods. Given the amount of ground balls he induces and lower arm slot, guessing it's a FB-SL-CH profile.
  3. OF Jhonny David, an international free agent signed this past March to the DSL squad, has been placed on the DSL team's Suspended List. He had not appeared in a game yet this year.
  4. So actually Lopez basically swapped spots with Freddy Peralta on the AAA roster, so one of the two moves to clear space for Espino and Dillard was the Perrin transfer to Biloxi. The other spot was cleared by placing INF Shane Opitz on the 7-day DL. Colorado Springs is currently carrying 14 pitchers and 3 catchers.
  5. Mentioned: CF Eduarqui Fernandez OF/1B Erys Bautista SS Eduardo Garcia 3B Branlyn Jaraba C Fernando Villalobos SS Carlos Roa
  6. Service time is service time regardless of the month.
  7. Final: AZL Brewers 8, AZL Reds 2 AZL Brewers Box Score Brewers win their first game behind great pitching from Michele Vassalotti (5 IP/1 R), Freisis Adames (3 IP/1 R), and Renny Tolentino (1 IP/0 R). It was the stateside debut for the still 17-year-old Vassalotti and the 21-year-old Adames; it was recent undrafted signee Tolentino's pro debut. The pitchers combined for 6 strikeouts and none of them allowed a walk. The other pro debut came on offense when 28nd round catcher Kekai Rios entered the game in the 6th inning. Rios walked in both his plate appearances so the OBP is looking good. The starting catcher was Bryan Torres, who was making his stateside debut. Torres singled in 2 ABs. Nic Pierre paced the offense with 4 hits, including 2 doubles and a triple. Aaron Familia added a single and a double, and Jess Williams doubled and walked. AZL Brewers Game Log Big innings here: AZL Brewers Bottom of the 2nd Jesse Williams doubles (1) on a line drive to right fielder Danny Lantigua. Aaron Familia singles on a fly ball to center fielder Peterson Plaz. Jesse Williams to 3rd. Anderson Melendez triples (1) on a ground ball to left fielder Cristian Olivo. Jesse Williams scores. Aaron Familia scores. Bryan Torres singles on a ground ball to right fielder Danny Lantigua. Anderson Melendez scores. Micah Bello called out on strikes. Pitching Change: Reinardo Mota replaces Omar Conoropo. Nic Pierre triples (1) on a line drive to right fielder Danny Lantigua. Bryan Torres scores. Edwin Sano grounds out to first baseman Jose Tello. Ernesto Martinez flies out to center fielder Peterson Plaz. And here: AZL Brewers Bottom of the 6th Aaron Familia doubles (1) on a fly ball to left fielder Cristian Olivo. Aaron Familia out at 3rd, left fielder Cristian Olivo to second baseman Reyny Reyes to third baseman Debby Santana. Anderson Melendez called out on strikes. Kekai Rios walks. Micah Bello reaches on a throwing error by third baseman Debby Santana. Kekai Rios to 2nd. Nic Pierre doubles (2) on a line drive to left fielder Cristian Olivo. Kekai Rios scores. Micah Bello scores. Pitching Change: Alberto Gonzalez replaces Luis Sparles. With Edwin Sano batting, wild pitch by Alberto Gonzalez, Nic Pierre to 3rd. With Edwin Sano batting, wild pitch by Alberto Gonzalez, Nic Pierre scores. Edwin Sano reaches on a fielding error by first baseman Jose Tello. Ernesto Martinez grounds out, shortstop Luis Lopez to first baseman Jose Tello.
  8. I'm 95% sure Howell will sign. The other two might be dependant on what happens with Turang/Gray.
  9. 32nd round pick Jonny Cuevas will not be signing: Cuevas is a 2018 Palm Desert High School graduate who received a scholarship to continue his education and baseball career at the University of Southern California. The USC commit decided not to sign with the Brewers. Cuevas also decided not to be a Trojan. Instead, Cuevas wishes to focus more on baseball and is set to attend College of Southern Nevada where he will play with the goal to be drafted higher in next years draft.
  10. Roster Resource makes my eyes explode. So many bright colors.
  11. 4th rounder Aaron Ashby will debut tonight with Helena as the piggyback to starter Scotty Sunitsch.
  12. Wrote that article, so may as well do the options piece as well... Options: [pre]Player Ref O/O Options Aguilar, Jesus N 0 Albers, Matt Y 0 Anderson, Chase N 1 Arcia, Orlando N 2 (2018 unused) Asher, Alec N 0 (2018 used) Barnes, Jacob N 2 (2018 unused) Braun, Ryan Y 3 Broxton, Keon N 0 (2018 used) Cain, Lorenzo Y 1 Chacin, Jhoulys Y 1 Davies, Zach N 2 Diplan, Marcos N 2 (2018 used) Dubon, Mauricio N 2 (2018 used) Franklin, Nick N 0 Guerra, Junior N 1 (2018 unused) Hader, Josh N 2 Houser, Adrian N 0 (2018 used)*** Jeffress, Jeremy Y 0 Jennings, Dan Y 0 Knebel, Corey N 1 Kratz, Erik N 0 Lopez, Jorge N 0 (2018 used) Miley, Wade Y 0 Miller, Brad N 1 (2018 unused) Nelson, Jimmy N 2 Nottingham, Jacob N 2 (2018 used) Peralta, Freddy N 2 (2018 used) Perez, Hernan N 0 Phillips, Brett N 1 (2018 used) Pina, Manny N 0 Saladino, Tyler N 2 (2018 unused) Santana, Domingo N 1 Shaw, Travis N 2 Sogard, Eric Y 1 (2018 unused) Suter, Brent N 2 Thames, Eric Y 1 Villar, Jonathan N 0 Vogt, Stephen N 0 Wilkerson, Aaron N 2 (2018 used) Williams, Taylor N 2 (2018 unused) Woodruff, Brandon N 1 (2018 used) Yelich, Christian N 3[/pre] A "Y" in the "Ref O/O" column is for players who have the right to refuse optional assignment (or outright). Yelich and Miller are rapidly closing in on their 5 year service mark, which triggers that player right. In Thames' case, he had that right written into his contract. "2018 unused" means the player has been optioned this year, but has not spent enough time in the minor leagues (20 full days) to actually burn the option. I'm not sure about Saladino because he's either right at or right before the 20-day mark, depending on how they count days - he may only have one option left if he did burn his 2018 option. "2018 used" means the player has burned their 2018 option, but is still free to be optioned at least through the end of this year (or longer, if they have additional options remaining). "***" for Houser means I think he'll be eligible for a 4th option next year, but I'm not entirely positive.
  13. DSL Brewers rained out. DSL co-op game happened, though.
  14. Salvador Perez. I guess I wouldn't consider him to be a huge upgrade. Doesn't get on base, consistently below average hitter. The delta between his defense and Pina's isn't big enough.
  15. By the way, I have a theory: given that the AZL team has 4 outfielders with really only one more on the way eventually (Joe Gray Jr.) and given that the DSL Brewers have 15 outfielders between the two teams, I think we'll see an outfielder or two transferred from the DSL to the AZL in the next few weeks. Carlos Rodriguez perhaps? Oswel Leones anyone?
  16. A little birdie told me that 15th round RHP Nick Iverson is likely to sign.
  17. Final: AZL Reds 10, AZL Brewers 7 AZL Brewers Box Score A 7-4 6th inning lead did not hold as the AZL Brewers drop their second game in a row to open the season. Two pro debuts last night, as noted a few other places in the thread. Australians! 19-year-olds Jess Williams and Alex Hall from the land down under played in their first (US organized) pro game. Williams found more success, and quite a bit of success actually, as he went 2-3 with a triple, a walk, and 2 RBIs. He did commit an error playing at second base. Though he was ostensibly signed as a shortstop, Williams has a big frame at 6'4 and would seem to be a better fit at second or third, but we'll see how it pans out. Hall took an 0-4 and was 0-3 in throwing out runners. Elsewhere in the lineup, Micah Bello kept raking with a single and 2 triples in 5 ABs. He also added his second stolen base in as many games, though he was caught stealing today and was picked off yesterday. So it goes with 17-year-olds. NDFA Connor McVey, at DH in this one, hit his first career HR in the 4th inning, which also happened to be the AZL club's first home run of the year. He added a single as well. The other Baby Brewers with multi-hit (specifically multi-single) games were RF Francis Florentino (making his stateside debut), and SS Edwin Sano. It's interesting to note that the switch-hitting Sano played SS, as he had only 1 career inning at the position prior to last night. From 2016-2017 he's primarily played 2B and 3B. The Brewers' pitchers obviously had a tough night as a group, and the tough night was spread around as 4 of the 5 pitchers used gave up at least one earned run. 2017 23rd round RHP Cam Robinson, who will still be 18 all this season, started the game and pitched fine, allowing an earned run in 2.2 innings of work. He struck out 6 against 2 hits and 2 walks. 2018 34th round LHP Michael Mediavilla made his pro debut and recorded one out to get Robinson out of a jam in the third. RHP Joel (nee Maiker) Pinto made his stateside debut after 3 DSL seasons and got roughed up, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits and a walk in 2.1 innings. RHP Tate Budnick made his pro debut after signing an NDFA deal last week, and stranded 2 of Pinto's runners but then two earned runs score later in 2 innings pitched. Peter Strzelecki, also a recent RHP NDFA signee, was actually the person to allow Budnick's runs to score, and then he gave up a run too to finish up the last 2 outs of the game. AZL Brewers Game Log 5th inning 3 run rally could have been bigger: AZL Brewers Top of the 5th Aaron Familia grounds out, third baseman Debby Santana to first baseman Jose Tello. Francis Florentino singles on a line drive to first baseman Jose Tello. Jesse Williams singles on a line drive to left fielder Cristian Olivo. Francis Florentino to 2nd. Micah Bello triples (1) on a ground ball to right fielder Edwin Yon. Francis Florentino scores. Jesse Williams scores. Nic Pierre walks. Pitching Change: Jose Valenzuela replaces Orlando Noriega. Connor McVey singles on a ground ball to third baseman Debby Santana. Micah Bello scores. Nic Pierre to 2nd. Ernesto Martinez grounds into a double play, second baseman Danielito Remy to first baseman Jose Tello. Connor McVey out at 2nd.
  18. Jess Williams was mentioned a few posts above, and his signing (along with fellow Aussie catcher Alex Hall) was documented here: viewtopic.php?p=1070152#p1070152
  19. Pro debuts tonight in the AZL for both of the new Australians, catcher Alex Hall and infielder Jess Williams.
  20. In addition to McDowell, Marcos Diplan is being promoted to Biloxi. Edit: Luis Aviles to Biloxi as well. https://twitter.com/brewcrewblue/status/1009272095480647681?s=21
  21. To drill into this a little, I think it would be more accurate to say that outside of Realmuto, only good teams have catchers that would be legitimate upgrades at the moment. Francisco Cervelli might be the only other good catcher on a mediocre team, depending on what you think of the Pirates. Wilson Ramos is fine and much less expensive in terms of trade cost, but hardly dynamic. Maybe Tucker Barnhart is an option for cheap-ish?
  22. Maybe there is. The Brewers want to see how Burnes looks in relief, apparently.
  23. FWIW, Georgia Tech coach Danny Hall expects 13th rounder RHP Reese Olson to enroll at the school and forego signing his pro contract.
  24. With the activation of Jorge Lopez in Colorado Springs, Jon Perrin has been transferred to Biloxi. He fills the roster spot vacated by Mitch Ghelfi. However, Biloxi only has one catcher on their active roster right now (Tyler Heineman) so there's likely to be another move to rectify that before the team resumes play post-All Star break on Thursday. Additionally, Tim Dillard and Paolo Espino were activated from the DL prior to last night's game for Colorado Springs. Not sure what the corresponding moves were to clear space for those guys were yet.
