  1. Nice. Mets loss; Astros gain. Tapping into the Astros minor league system should bring some good returns. Best of luck to Gomez and Fiers in helping Houston's playoff chase.
  2. I know that he's outside the circle of names being kicked around, but I'd think that Archie Miller from Dayton would be worth interviewing as a replacement for Bo Ryan. Shown himself to be a successful coach at the mid-major level. Midwestern guy with time spent at Ohio State as an assistant. Just signed a contract extension, so it would take a buyout.
  3. The relegation playoffs reach their culmination today and Sunday in Scotland. Motherwell from the Premier League plays Glasgow Rangers from the Championship League. Along with Celtic, Rangers is one of the two Old Firm teams in Scotland. They have won the most top-division titles in Scottish football history. Three years ago, Rangers had been dropped from the Premier League to the lowest division due to financial difficulties and liquidation, followed by a new club that took the Rangers name and history. After climbing up the pyramid during the past several seasons, Rangers finished 3rd in the Championship this year. They defeated the 4th place (Queen of the South) and 2nd place (Hibernian) teams from the Championship in a ladder type play-off, each round being two legs: (a) 4th plays 3rd; (b) winner plays 2nd; © winner plays 11th place Premiership team. I've been a Motherwell fan for about a decade. As bad as the Brewers have been this year, it's been even worse following another team that's been facing the possibility of relegation since winter. Hoping that the Steelmen can prevail over one of the historic powers of Scottish football and stay up!
  4. Good call there, WV Brew. Something about the Milwaukee Braves' 1957 season would be a good choice. There's also potential in the greater Boston/Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves story, since that includes numerous matters that continue to affect cities and sports franchises: (a) the westward movement of baseball in the 1950s (b) the southward movement and expansion of baseball in later decades © modern stadium construction (d) multiple relocations of the same franchise (e) competition among cities for relocation/threats to fans about attendance. Those topics are still in play and cut across all sports.
  5. Changing the manager: fine. How long to wait before a new general management team and moving players?
  6. Getting a return for a player who has no clear path to the majors and hasn't been beating down the door to be promoted based on his past two seasons in AA/AAA is good. At this point, I'm not concerned about the intra-divisional trade aspect.
  7. To stoke our shared antipathy towards St. Louis and their baseball franchise, as well as to provide some need moments of hilarity, I present to you The Best of Bad St. Louis Baseball Writing courtesy of SB Nation: http://www.sbnation.com/2014/10/9/6944445/mlb-2014-nlcs-playoffs-cardinals-bad-writing And here is Deadspin's commentary on the elegant prose that lauds the classiest franchise of the National League: http://deadspin.com/lets-try-to-create-the-worst-sportswriting-about-the-ca-1644378413
  8. Excellent work hitting with RISP: OAK 4-9 (.444), 4 2-out RBI KC 7-15 (.467), 4 2-out RBI KC scores 9 runs with no HRs. That type of performance should be a goal for the Brewers next year.
  9. 3 or 3.5 (?) years at the new facility in Biloxi is a good reward for enduring Huntsville. I suppose taking Fresno for two years and looking to hit one of the 2016 free agent affiliates may be the best of some not-so-great choices.
  10. Cubs affiliating with either South Bend or Fort Wayne does make sense. The Fort Wayne stadium is a gem right downtown. (Parents live there, so I've seen several games when visiting them.) Not too far of a drive to Chicago from there. Unsure about the South Bend stadium situation, but it would be a way to further cement the region as Cubs territory, since the Western Suburbs [Kane County] are pretty much already theirs. (South Bend had been a White Sox affiliate for quite a while.)
  11. Topic 1: "What should we buy for Celine? Toys or useful gifts? Topic 2: "Can Doug Melvin and Gord Ash hook us up with Cuban cigars to celebrate with Braunie?"
  12. So what's the next trick in this losing streak? What type of game have the Brewers not lost yet? 1-0 shutout?
  13. Terrible sequence after the first two batters get on. Have no clue why Roenicke took the bat out of Overbay's hands by pinch hitting for him. Overbay has actually been good with runners in scoring position this season. And he would be facing a pitcher who is tough on righties with the funny delivery, but lefties should be able to pick up the ball better.
  14. Gotta get some 2-out RBIs in this game. Chances not taken.
  15. The wheels are well off the wagon now. For all the fan chatter of firing Roenicke, I wouldn't mind seeing a complete turnover in the front office. Perhaps the Melvin tenure should come to an end as well: a complete resetting of the franchise management.
  16. http://www.tradingcarddb.com/Images/Cards/Baseball/33346/33346-9Fr.jpg
  17. Phillies hold on for the win. Better bullpen than Cincinnati had versus the Cardinals.
  18. Some bad baseball on display so far tonight for the Brewers.
  19. Walk off HBP for the Cardinals. I don't care if it's completely mental, but I want nothing to do with that team from St. Louis in any possible playoff scenario.
  20. The 9th-inning horror movie has a happy ending. Road wins in games started by Greinke and Kershaw: that's impressive.
  21. Davis robbed by Crawford; just missed another run. Making some good solid contact against Kershaw. Crawford needs to learn to replace his divots.
