  1. I wouldn't want to even contemplate what would necessitate bringing up Vargas to pitch in September. With Thornburg, Peralta, and Marcum likely on their way to pitch, then I'd imagine that a Vargas call up would only be due to an injury to Gallardo or something catastrophic to Thornburg or Peralta---perish the thought.
  2. Looks like a Ron Roenicke Special Sunday LineupTM. Now watch them put up 8 runs today.
  3. With the 2012 Minor League Baseball Season reaching it's last month and several AA/AAA players in the organization turning in impressive performances, my mind has wandered toward looking forward to the 2012 Arizona Fall League Season. For our MiLB experts here at Brewerfan.net: (a) Who do you anticipate as likely candidates for the Fall League roster spots that the Brewers will have open to them? (b) Who would be somewhat surprising candidates?
  4. I would think it's De Los Santos, so that the team can see what they've got with him. If he fails, nothing is really lost; McClendon could be brought up in that case. Bringing up Peralta would lead to the same issue with Thornburg. (I don't anticipate the front office making the same error twice in month.) Peralta has been groomed as a starter; bullpen duty at this time would be foreign to him. And if another starter is needed in the next 3 weeks, then you're scrambling to get the starter-turned-reliever Peralta back into "starter mode".
  5. Axford batting with a runner in scoring position: indicative of just how far the Brewers bullpen has fallen this year.
  6. Watching Fiers bat led to this question: Who's the last pitcher that you've seen at the plate without batting gloves?
  7. Fiers just plain seems to have a grasp of the art of pitching. May not have all the standard desired tools from a RHP (e.g. mid-90s fastball), but he gets results from what he's got. It's enjoyable to watch him frustrate opposing hitters.
  8. Torts: I live over near Harrisburg, so I know the issue with all things Penn State and Steelers. Though we get a bleed in of Philly stuff, too. It's bad enough here; it has to be tons worse in either Pittsburgh or Philadelphia proper. Lately I've been listening to the WSSP morning show (Chuck & Wickett) via the TuneIn Radio app. That gives some live Milwaukee sports coverage each weekday (7am-10am Eastern). Other times, I listen to WAUK (ESPN Milwaukee) via the same app. When Jason Wilde is on, he usually has good coverage of the Packers. He has the weekday "Green and Gold Today" show that's on at 10am Eastern. There's a local afternoon show that runs from 4pm-7pm Eastern. I'm sure others have ideas/opinions. Take mine for what it's worth.
  9. The bullpen is just enhancing Greinke's trade value. Melvin: "Greinke went 9-3 with that support behind him. With your pennant-contending bullpen, he'll go undefeated."
  10. Aramis continues his torrid run at the plate. Makes the possibility of trading him more intriguing. Tempting to keep him for next year, possibly moving over to 1B, if a 3B is acquired via trade.
  11. Love seeing Braun with the power bat to right-center. It is a great approach coupled with a near perfect swing.
  12. 1st AB brings a hit for Maldonado. Way to mark the first MLB career start.
  13. Reverse Samson Effect? At this point, Weeks should be willing to try most anything.
  14. I'm assuming that today was a "scheduled day off" for Gamel. Also, I'd be curious to know when was the last time that the Brewers or any National League team hit their 1B in the #8 lineup spot.
  15. Gotta put the bat on the ball with bases loaded and down one run in the 9th. But sometimes that's just plain easier said than done.
  16. Nice to see the #1 pitcher throwing batting practice in the opener. Get 'em out of the system early in the year, I guess.

  18. I'll throw in my $0.02 for a Subaru. My parents had a Legacy wagon and now own a 2011 Outback. I own a 2010 Forester with over 50,000 miles on it since I bought it new in SEP 2010. My average MPG for the life of it is right at 25, which is a little better than what I was getting from my Ford Taurus that I traded in. When I do a good bit of highway driving, I see 27-30 mpg averages. Great handling at all times (full-time AWD) and really good for the winter. I've had adults in the backseat for road trips with no complaints for long travel. Good storage space; lots of it with the backseat folded down. Can take it anywhere from pheasant hunting in Iowa cornfields or locations in the Appalachians to the city streets of Philadelphia, Baltimore, or Washington and it fits. My only major complaint is that the automatic transmission is a 4-speed. [Yes, that's right, "4-speed".] But it does well enough on the short on-ramps out here in the East Coast and it's not terrible. They sell it with a 5-speed manual transmission, if you're looking for that.
  19. I was surprised that Meadows wasn't taken in the Rule 5 Draft. Glad he's still with the organization. He potentially could be a long term LOOGY for the Brewers.
