  1. Brewers drafting? Gotta go to a commercial.
  2. Maybe a little overcritical. But in the same degree as thinking that Peralta is the ace of the staff in 2014 or this year's Cy Young winner. Does Peralta have great stuff? Absolutely; maybe even the best raw pitching talent on the roster. But give him some time to develop and learn the craft of pitching.
  3. Quite the reversal of fortunes today. Not an ace-like performance out of Peralta. Perhaps tempering expectations going forward is warranted; he is the #5 starter after all. Hammel seems to be a tough matchup for the Brewers.
  4. Another ex-Brewer in the Cubs bullpen. Reminder of the days when Villanueva, Veras, and Vargas were expected to be important pitchers on our team's staff.
  5. Pulling victory out of the jaws of defeat after nearly pulling defeat out of the jaws of victory: not good for the ulcer, but maybe a huge uplifting win.
  6. Bad loss. Closer flushes a 2-run lead with 2 outs down the drain. Boneheaded base running in the 9th with a chance to win the game. Failures to capitalize on other RISP situations. Lack of decent bench players to pinch hit is exposed again. Lousy way to lose. Even worse when this type of loss has not been uncommon during the month of May.
  7. 6 runs already? Brewers offense is spoiling the rookie starting pitcher.
  8. 7-21. This team is clearly one game better than last year's....
  9. Mike Axisa's analysis article on CBSSports.com talks about the early overusage of the bullpen: http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/24535923/overworked-bullpen-an-early-concern-for-the-brewers From the article: No one can complain with the results of the bullpen's work in 2014. 8 extra innings due to the APR 20 game in Pittsburgh also inflates the numbers a little. Perhaps having the rotating Wooten-Figaro combination between the majors and AAA will help with the strain of the workload. But the effect of keeping Wang on the 25-man roster may play a factor later in the year, if he is not actually used from the bullpen.
  10. I usually get to the Detroit area a couple of times of year. (1) A stop at one of the coney island places (American Coney Island) in Detroit would give some "local flavor". Definitely a "George Webb" sort of greasy-spoon cafe. (2) Not too far from the stadium in Detroit (about 8 blocks south) is Greektown. There are some decent places there. Pegasus Taverna serves Greek food. Astoria Pastry Shop makes Greek pastries. Pizza Papalis makes good Chicago-style pizza: both deep dish and thin crust. There's also a casino with a hotel down there, if you're into that sort of thing. (3) Another place to try out is Detroit Beer Company (microbrewery/brewpub) about 2-3 blocks from the stadium. Better than Hockeytown Cafe or Cheli's Chili Bar, which are sports bars close to the stadium with nothing really special about them.
  11. 7.0 IP 4 H 2 R 1 ER 2 BB 4 K 1 HR Great line from the #5 pitcher. Estrada and Peralta are the real keys to the rotation. Get them to put up "#3 pitcher stats" with consistency, and that bodes well for a good season.
  12. Needed a "perfect game" to win. Nearly got it. Missed FT at the end; too many TOs down the stretch. Sucks to watch a great college team lose to an NBA minor-league team with a(n allegedly) shady coach.
  13. Badgers took a big haymaker from UK, but managed to withstand it. This game is set up for about a 8-0 or 10-0 run to take a hold on the game; either team could get that.
  14. Good time for the bats to wake up. Bashing a former Cardinal pitcher is a bonus.
  15. Greg Maddux (97.2%) Tom Glavine (91.9%) Frank Thomas (83.7%) ...welcome to the Hall of Fame. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/24402483/greg-maddux-tom-glavine-and-frank-thomas-elected-to-hall-of-fame Official ballot results here: http://bbwaa.com Let the debate commence for those left out, including Craig Biggio (74.6%) and Tim Raines, as well as the "Steroid Era" players.
  16. What's the trade price for Mitch Moreland? At least he could play a Dave Nilssonesque-RF besides 1B, in case that were needed due to injury.
  17. Full no trade clause with that conract? Talk about tightly securing an albatross around your neck.
  18. Zoo is good, as mentioned. Tour the Schlafly Bottleworks. See the Arch, if you haven't ever done so. When down near the Arch, tour the Old Courthouse if you're a history buff: it's where the Dred Scott case was heard prior to going to the US Supreme Court.
  19. Let me take that trade value, soak it in kerosene, and throw a match on it.... Snakebit is a fairly apt description for this season. Was going to be tough from the start; getting little for the next few seasons via trade would be a kick in the gut.
  20. One of the better Stanley Cup Final series. Two very evenly matched teams. The playoffs, including the Final pretty much made up for the short season. That was an absolutely unbelievable final minute of Game 6. I never thought that the Blackhawks would win two Stanley Cup Finals in four seasons. It's a major turnaround for a major league franchise.
