  1. My interests in major league sports and major college (D-1) athletics break down this way: (1) Milwaukee Brewers (MLB)(2) Green Bay Packers (NFL).(3) Motherwell FC (Scottish Premier League Soccer)(4) Central Michigan Chippewas (NCAA Football) -- my alma mater(5) Wisconsin Badgers (NCAA Football) ..(6) Chicago Blackhawks (NHL).(7) Wisconsin Badgers (NCAA Basketball)(8) Central Michigan Chippewas (NCAA Basketball) Absolutely no interest in professional basketball. Wish the strike/lockout would have been permanent.I have interest in US National Sports Teams (Soccer and Hockey), but that's a different category.
  2. Short answer? It's Missouri, so yes.http://youtu.be/8dxFc2xQOxg License plates on the cars in the video sure looked like Illinois plates. Could be best of both worlds for ragging on them: Cardinal fans from Illinois acting that way.
  3. Tim McCarver was named the recipient of the Ford Frick Award for broadcasting excellence. MLB Network StoryHardball Talk Story Love the first comment posted on the Hardball Talk article:
  4. Congrats to Braun! Only 1st and 2nd place votes (20, 12) for Braun from the writers: not unanimous, but that's a pretty good balloting result.
  5. Looking at the stats, the one thing that I wonder about is Gindl's power numbers. Hart played AAA in Indianapolis in the International League, while Gindl played at Nashville in the Pacific Coast League. How much, if any, inflationary effect is there to Gindl's numbers from playing games in the low humidity, high elevation parks out west? Not saying that Gindl won't be a very good major league player, just that his SLG might project to be less than Hart's but with a better OBP, as The Truth notes from Gindl's minor league career stats.
  6. Seeing someone like Jeff Cirillo or Mark Loretta as a hitting coach would be interesting. Not sure if either of them have interest in coaching, though. Loretta seems more like a front office type.
  7. Bumping the thread, as Kirk Gibson has also won the BBWAA Manager of the Year award. Gibson, Maddon Named Top Managers (CBS Sports)Kirk Gibson of Arizona Diamondbacks, Joe Maddon of Tampa Bay Rays Win Managers of the Year (ESPN)
  8. New regime in Chicago extends from front office to the dugout. A new manager is in the works for the Cubs. Mike Quade out as Chicago Cubs Manager (Chicago Tribune Story)
  9. Could Betancourt be a good 3B? It wouldn't require as much range as SS (which he doesn't show), but does require a strong arm (which he has) and good hands (he is "Mr. Golden Hands"). Not saying that Betancourt should be an option in Milwaukee at 3B, but perhaps for another team.
  10. Mephistopheles must have called in TLR's marker. Seriously, congrats to La Russa. As much as his antics might irritate opposing fans, three world series championships and the third-most wins as manager is a career record that very few managers will have.
  11. I suppose it's worse being a Rangers fan, watching your team lose consecutive World Series, including being one strike away from winning twice in Game 6. That's all the silver lining I've got.
  12. This is really going to suck. After seeing the Cardinals completed a totally improbable run to even get onto the playoffs, then having our team's pitching staff crap the bed in the NLCS, the only thing that was possibly "rewarding" was a bit of schadenfreude. Instead, we'll have to endure a whole offseason of hearing how TLR is the greatest manager ever, that this World Series win was the classiest, and that the Brewers will never know how to win what really matters. It really will suck much.
  13. I predict some major moves in the offseason to reshape the roster for a strong 3-5 year window. This means trading some of our veteran players for MLB-ready talent, signing some free agents to be key players on the roster, and plugging in some of the top prospects into the starting lineup. From the 2011 Roster, here's who I expect to leave or be traded: Fielders[/b] Fielder[/i][/b] – LeavesBetancourt[/i][/b] – ReleasedMcGehee[/i][/b] – ReleasedHart[/i][/b] – TradedMorgan[/i][/b] – Traded/ReleasedCounsell[/i][/b] – Retires Pitchers [/b] Wolf/Marcum[/i][/b] – One Traded, Other StaysNarveson/Estrada[/i][/b] – One Traded, Other StaysHawkins[/i][/b] – LeavesRodriguez[/i][/b] – LeavesSaito[/i][/b] – Leaves Here's what I predict for the 2012 Opening 25-Man Roster: Defensive Lineup C[/b] – Lucroy1B[/b] – Gamel2B[/b] – WeeksSS[/b] – TBD (FA/Trade)[/i]3B[/b] – GreenRF[/b] – TBD (FA/Trade)[/i]CF[/b] – SchaferLF[/b] – Braun Bench C2[/b] – KottarasIF[/b] – HairstonIF[/b] – Veteran RH power bat - platoon at 1B[/i]OF[/b] – KotsayOF[/b] – Gomez Rotation SP1[/b] – GallardoSP2[/b] – Greinke (poss. ext.)SP3[/b] – Marcum/Wolf (whoever is left)[/i]SP4[/b] – TBD (FA/Trade)[/i]SP5[/b] – Estrada/Narveson (whoever is left)[/i] Bullpen BP[/b] – Fiers/Scarpetta BP[/b] – LoeBP[/b] – BraddockBP[/b] – Meadows/LOOGYBP[/b] – Veteran Setup Man[/i]BP[/b] – Veteran Setup Man[/i]CL[/b] – Axford
  14. Mark Attanasio, Doug Melvin, Ron Roenicke, entire Brewers organization, and Brewers players: You gave us a baseball game in Milwaukee on the 3rd Sunday in October, something that hadn't happened 1982. You gave many Brewers' fans---those of us 35 and younger---the best season that they ever witnessed or remember. You have turned the Milwaukee Brewers into a club that has to be reckoned with, not laughed off as a joke. For all that, I can only say "Thank You". But if you could see fit to do it again next season, we at Brewerfan.net wouldn't complain. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  15. Of course, it does help that they have been playing since 1892. 12 of the 18 were before the MLB expansion in 1969, so there's a lot of past glory.
  16. Total sadness. Just not good enough. The unveiling of the 2011 Division Winner flag will be bittersweet, given the way the season ended. Oh, and all those who wanted the Cardinals to make the playoffs or to be the opponent in the NLCS......the big lake east of the stadium is perfect for jumping in. April 2012 won't come soon enough! See all you Brewerfan.net people then, if not before for some hot stove talk.
  17. 3 right-handed hitters against a LH reliever....and there is no offense produced. Just sad.
  18. Put up a 5-spot this inning, please. (At least 3 runs would be appreciated.)
  19. Stop STL from scoring, and a win's still possible. I'm still amazed at how many 0-1 run innings have been put up by the Brewers in the playoffs, when there was opportunity for multiple runs.
  20. Wait.....was that a scoreless inning? Only five more of those, plus runs scored in each of the bottom halves........
  21. Nitpicking a little, but Lucroy needed to shield the plate a bit better there.
  22. Must get a shutdown inning out of Narveson here in the 3rd. The Brewers should score 7 runs, but it's a lot better not having to do so just to tie the game.
