  1. With the comparisons made between Hader and Ashby, I've wondered for a good while whether Ashby could possibly become a dominant reliever. Maybe develop him as a potential closer. Though the closing opportunities will likely fall to Uribe now for the near future, it would be interesting to see if Ashby would assume that mantle at times.
  2. Gutsy from Miller tonight. Pitched like a veteran reliever. Gotta get this one in regulation. Don’t want to think about extra innings.
  3. Wouldn’t mind seeing locking him in for a few more years beyond the original control. At this rate, Turang is starting to creep toward numbers that wouldn’t be bad for a third baseman, let alone a second baseman who could moonlight at shortstop.
  4. Don’t know what’s gotten into Monasterio lately, but he’s providing some unexpected offense in his recent appearances.
  5. Could use some offense against the Arizona long relievers….. Time to see if Myers can be effective again in relief. The added split-change (?) has seemed to be a new weapon. Need a good couple innings tonight from him.
  6. Couldn't get the big hit with RISP for a third straight game. Basically no BABIP luck at all either. That's three losses in four games to the Cubs. At least it wasn't in an NLDS. (Yes, not the same as the playoffs, given the games have all been in Chicago and the management of the game is not the same as in October. But that's how quickly a playoff series could crap out.)
  7. Got a 2-out RBI hit from Turang. Felt like they needed that run more than simply to cut into a 2-run deficit.
  8. Nice quick, clean inning for Mears in the Bottom 5th. Need to keep pushing at Rea at 86 pitches until it breaks for a big inning.
  9. There's a bit of a worry that this observation could be true. With the offense needing to string multiple walks and hits together, there is a higher premium on home run hitting--or at least slugging--in playoff games. This was a topic of discussion at the trade deadline about the need for another power bat and concerns about Ortiz being asked to be productive on offense. This Cubs series is a small sample size, but it is a group of games against a very likely playoff team's pitching staff. And playoff series are nothing but small sample groups of games. Maybe some of this changes when Chourio returns to the lineup in place of Perkins, who is a good 4th/5th outfielder but not someone you want as an everyday starter. But the shortstop position has a good probability of continuing to be a weak link in the offense chain.
  10. Seigler came into the game with a .222 BA and a .321 OBP in 53 plate appearances: 10 total hits (all singles) with 6 walks and 9 strikeouts. Seigler appears to have a good understanding of the strike zone. Just would like to see a bit more positive production with his contact at the plate.
  11. Got one across, but didn't get the big hit with RISP. Missing that multi-RBI strike a bit lately.
  12. Well, that's a quiet Top 1 for the Brewers. Rea getting two Ks and a groundout on 10 pitches.
