  1. Anyone else flip over to WGN to check out the Cubs game? They are doing throwback day, and a throwback broadcast. It is the stupidest idea I've ever seen. First, they have type writer noise in the background. Second, the camera views are REALLY far back. They show every pitch from the angle like you are sitting in the second deck on the 3rd base side. And third, the broadcast is in black and white, thus you can NEVER see the ball. You can't see the pitch. If the hitter swings, you have no idea where the ball is. And you can't see throws or plays in the field. Whoever's idea that was should be fired. If they must, do it for 1 inning, but it's impossible to watch!!
  2. So is it against the rules for a player to switch positions in the middle of a game? With both Hardy and Weeks on the DL, you still have 5 guys who can/have played the IF: 3B-Counsell, Hall, Branyon, Dillon. SS-Counsell, Hall(in a pinch) 2B- Counsell, Hall, Dillon, Iribarron. So yes, you have plenty of IF options. Some of those options are not the best options, but they will do. SS is the only position to worry about, but if they had to put Hall there for a couple innings of a game, I'd be perfectly fine with that. If Weeks comes back after his 15 days, like expected, that will only be 8 games. I think they can easily get by with what they have.
  3. I second Brad Nelson. They aren't in desperate need of an infielder. Hall can play short for a couple of innings if need be. But I'm crossing my fingers and saying my prayers that Hardy will just miss a day or 2.
  4. How can the Reds be 30-34 with Harang being 2-9? That just boggles my mind.
  5. I don't think there is any way Weaver reaches Milwaukee unless there is an injury. DiFelice is really the only pitcher on the roster that can go back to AAA. Dillard would have to be the second option, but he hasn't yet given up a run in Milwaukee. I'm guessing Gagne will be coming off the DL eventually, so it really boils down to having Dillard or Weaver. So until Dillard has a blow up, or shows that he isn't a good option from the pen, I'd vote for Dillard every time. Plus, Melvin and Yost have put their chips on McClung since spring training. So why would they change their "project" now after he's shown a little success?
  6. Anyone else notice that Scherzer has 2 different colored eyes? If I was at the plate and noticed that, I wouldn't be able to hit his 95 mph fastball either... that is if I could hit one to start out with.
  7. I could care less about how many homers the guy hits. I believe those are going to come eventually. What really bothers me is that over the last month, he is hitting .298 but yet he's only scored 9 runs and has 7 rbi. He has turned into one of the least clutch players on the team. It seems like every time he's up with runners in scoring position, it's either a double play ball or a pop in the infield. As for the no meat part... My dad was telling me they had a nutritionist on the radio talking about people switching to vegetarian diets. The nutritionist was saying that a major set back for people switching over to a vegetarian diet was immediate results were not immediate. He said that over the first 4 months, a person usually gains weight no matter how hard they work out. (ok, don't quote me on this next part... I think I understood it, but may have some details wrong) When a person loses weight, it's from muscle burning fat. When a person switches to a vegetarian diet, their muscles get a shock and don't burn the fat even as quickly as when you were eating meat. So many people get discouraged for the first 4 months because they gain weight, and I'm thinking Prince is still in that 4 months... or close to it. So after all that, I'm thinking his home run totals have little or nothing to do with him actually not eating meat. I think it is a combination of him putting on weight and causing his bat to be a little slower, him not seeing the ball very well, and pitchers pitching him different.
  8. I'm no snake expert, but I'm guessing those are not nonvenomous red-sided garter snakes! If I came upon a pit of those, I don't know what I would do... probably run away screaming like a little girl!!
  9. The Brewers non-hitting average for this series is .365. I usually don't mind strikeouts, but 27 in 74 outs of the series is HORRIBLE!!
  10. And what are the Bucks going to do with that extra cap space? If the Bucks trade to get cap space, they will be horrible forever. What NBA player is going to sign with Milwaukee without being vastly overpaid? The only way the Bucks are going to improve is though smart drafts and smart trades. And trading their "best player" for 3 crappy players with expiring contracts is not the answer. Unless you want a team full of Bobby Simmons' that is. As for what I'd do, I would LOVE to move Redd and/or Mo to move up in the draft. There are 3 guys I would love to have in Beasley, Rose, and Mayo. I'm not a huge fan of Beasley or Mayo, but they both have superstar potential and that's what the Bucks need. But whatever they do, they need to have a productive offseason. The last couple have been horrible by overpaying for players (Simmons, Mo, Redd, and Danny G) without looking at that players true contribution and worth to the team. And I think Hammond realizes that Mo and Redd are still valuable players in the league, but are not right for the other personnel on this team.
  11. To me, it's all about pressure. Pressure from the fans. Pressure from the media. Pressure from everyone. I'd assume it's a lot different learning in front of, 5,000 people at a triple A game, than learning in front of 40,000 at a big league game. The minor leagues are so laid back, where as the big leagues are go, go, go. In the minors you don't have media breathing down your neck when you're on a cold streak. You don't have drunk guys booing you when you strike out in a big situation. It's just a different environment. Florida may be able to do this because they have about as many fans as a minor league team. But Milwaukee is trying to build a winning mentality, and trotting prospects out there to "learn" isn't the way to do that. I understand every prospect has to learn to deal with this at some point, but I'd think it would be much easier when he is completely ready for the show.
  12. I agree that it was a homer. But how ridiculous is it to not have a yellow line or anything out there signifying that the top of the pad is out and not out of the park?
  13. He signed 2 balls for me on the sweetspot last year during spring training.
  14. For anyone watching the game... what website did Trenni give for Braun's clothing line? I thought she said Affliction.com... but that's nothing. And when I searched Affliction clothing, it comes up with an Ozzy Osborne clothing line. Think that's the same thing?
  15. I thought it was pretty routine. He had to go a long ways, but was there in plenty of time.
  16. But that would leave them with only 11 pitchers. We need to get that back up to 13 or 14!!
  17. And I believe they've only worn them for 1 Friday this season. The first Friday game was Opening Day and they wore normal uniforms.
  18. I can only see 3 moves the Brewers could make. Unless they bump one of the lefties up from AA, which I think is doubtful, they have to keep 1 of Bush, Parra, and Villy because the only starters from AAA I can see being bumped up are Weaver and DiFelice. And besides those 2 possible moves, the only other person I can see being sent down is Gwynn to get some at bats. They have a few possibilities for bats to bring up, but you'd have to guess it's a lefty to DH against Boston. That leaves Branyan, Nelson, possibly Iribarron, and maybe Gamel from AA. I would almost bet on 3 moves being made. If Parra happens to pitch well tonight, that may be his ticket to stay. Who knows.
  19. I also got this email. So if Hall4President gets more than one person interested, PM me with your email and I'll forward you the offer.
  20. Wouldn't beating out an infield single have more to do with speed than base running? There really isn't any skill to running to first base. it's a straight line.
  21. And when has the last one been the last couple of seasons? It's been the last week of the year, and last year was the last series... not almost a month before the end of the season like this year. If I recall correctly, last year most of the September call ups weren't up by September 5. They waited till the minor league playoffs were over before they called them up. Plus, everyone was scheduled to sign 3 times in past years. I would put money on them signing... and I never bet.
  22. I VERY highly doubt that's true. They are scheduled for September 5, yes. And usually the last autograph Friday is the September call ups, yes. But that last autograph Friday is usually much later in the year. They aren't doing in the last Friday, which is Sept. 26. There is no way they put the September call-ups in there.
  23. I'm not a Gross fan at all. But I don't mind seeing him in the lineup against a righty. But I do have a problem with him playing CF. He is not a center fielder! They said their main objective was to improve their defense this year, but yet they stick Gross in center. Hart didn't seem to have a problem scooting over to center last season, and it should be less of a problem because they are playing in their home ball park. With the team the way it is now, I'd rather have the best defensive player possible in center... and that is not Gabe Gross.
  24. You are right, there is no test for HGH. From what I heard though, MLB has a 5-man crew that looks into HGH cases. Someone tipped off MLB, so the crew was sent to investigate and found him receiving shipments. I was only half paying attention when they were talking about this, but that's what I recall.
  25. I don't necessarily like Prince's pants either, but what does a ball player look like? The first thing I thought of when I saw Prince's pants the other day was Babe Ruth. So was Babe Ruth not a ball player? That's how many players wore their uniforms back in the day. So I guess going by that, maybe that IS how uniforms are supposed to be worn and everyone else should change.
