  1. Car #1... http://www.jonlancastertoyota.com/used/Toyota/2010-Toyota-RAV4-71fdd95a0a0d048d008c491e73317d10.htm Car #2... http://smarttoyota.com/used-cars-madison-wi/2010_Toyota_RAV4_Madison_2T3BF4DV8AW049030.aspx The price for car #2 isn't listed, but he quoted me $22,500 (after so graciously knocking it down by $1500). Both Carfaxes are available on the websites. The only potential red flag with car #1 is the lack of service records, but with a 2010 that has 30,000 miles on it, there should have only been oil changes and tire rotations. Aside from the physical differences, the first car has been on the lot for about 6 weeks, the second car for under a week. That may have something to do with it as well.
  2. Bringing back an old topic because I am car shopping. I test drove a few cars today at two different dealers. I drove two of the same model. Same year, same body style, both AWD. Car #2 had 1000 miles more on it, was a different color, and had alloy wheels. Aside from that, there was no difference except in price. Car #2 was $5000 more than car #1. At first, I didn't know if I should be worried (that car #1 had something wrong with it that wasn't on the Carfax) or insulted that dealer #2 was charging so much more (without a lot of wiggle room, so said the salesman). I would probably prefer to buy from the second dealer because they are closer to home and it's where I bought our last car...keep everything simple. What would you guys do?
  3. Halloween candy and costumes on the shelves on August 8.
  4. I'm still disappointed that Chicago didn't get it. A lot of the cycling events were going to be held 15 miles from my house. I agree that they should try again.
  5. I'm getting a little bored with the track coverage. There are only so many 10-30 second races I can watch before I want to see something else. I am quite disappointed that NBC hasn't bothered to show many of the "field" events, such as long jump, pole vault, shotput, javelin, discus, etc... I'm sure some of the events have not happened yet, but they are willing to show two 10,000m races that are really not that interesting until the last 2-3 laps or so. I think some of the other athletes' feats are far more impressive and interesting than a qualifying race in track.
  6. That is the one I was referring to. Easily my favorite of the Celebrity Jeopardy skits.
  7. I don't know if I have one single favorite, but I really love the Celebrity Jeopardy skits, especially the early ones (my favorite has Sean Connery, Minnie Driver, and Jeff Goldblum). I also like John Belushi's Luck of the Irish rant. Then there is El Nino...
  8. Shopping for a used vehicle is harder than I thought it would be.
  9. I wish websites would just have a "Click here for Olympic Results" instead of having them on their home page automatically. I don't get cable and am at home during the day, so I am limited to whatever NBC is showing. I don't mind the whitewater kayaking or the water polo, but I really don't care about volleyball or the swimming prelims very much. This is when I wish they would show more of the obscure events...I enjoy those more than the mainstream events.
  10. Where do you live? If you live in Wisconsin, you can contact the Tenant Resource Center in Madison. They provide free counseling on tenant/landlord issues.
  11. Since that question is resolved, can you still buy Jolly Good soda?
  12. I thought the news said last night that we had 21 so far this year. Still, crazy. We had about a quarter of an inch in Middleton, at least that was the unofficial measurement in my daughter's kiddie pool (that was empty). It's enough that I won't have to water the gardens tonight.
  13. As a teacher, there are a few options I have to continue to advance my career. While I enjoy teaching high school, I wouldn't say I love it. I have been considering beginning a Master's program in ed administration (to become a principal). However, recently, my passion for one of my content areas has been fully rekindled, and would welcome an opportunity to further my education in that field, perhaps teaching it at a tech school level (like MATC or a UW-_______ County school). The problem is, obtaining a Master's in that field would be nearly impossible at the moment. There are few if any programs that would accommodate working adults. The programs I found would pretty much require me to quit working, which is not an option. I would consider a distance learning opportunity, but I'm not sure how many institutions offer Master's programs completely online (oh, and the content area would be Political Science). Does anyone have any advice?
  14. See OWBC's last post. First time it's 100 in Milwaukee since 1995. It doesn't get this hot very often in this part of the country, especially when it's been as dry as it has been (though I suspect the drought conditions have helped keep the humidity levels at bay a little bit). I'm a rare species that would prefer -20 with snow over this heat. There are few things that are as comfortable for me as being hot, so this is pretty miserable for me. Also, the highways in this state are not built to withstand such a long period of heat. I'm sure by now, most have seen the video of the car flying through the air after hitting a buckle in the highway. Roads have been buckling all over the state this week, closing roads, and possibly causing injuries.
  15. The problem is you overheat so quickly, then heat exhaustion kicks in. It's hard to enjoy yourself (unless you're in water) when it is 100+ outside. People are starting to compare this to the 1995 heatwave.
  16. I see it's been 2 months since this thread has been commented on. I think we set the record for the driest June in Madison. We had a whopping 0.32 inches of rain. Also, the string of derechos hitting this week has been nuts. The storm that hit DC started west of Chicago and stormed across the country in 12 hours. Crazy.
  17. My wife doesn't know what, "don't tell anyone" means. She has gotten me into a lot of trouble recently.
  18. I may be able to top that. Last week, I was standing on first base. The guy behind me, a lefty, hit an absolute rocket right at me. I jumped, but it still hit me square on the inside of the ankle, right above the bone. I still have a bruise that is 2 inches in diameter, the inside of my foot is purple from the heel to the arch, in the toe area, and now on the outside of my foot as well. I have not been able to put shoes on for the past week due to the swelling, though it has gone down by about 90% (it had nearly doubled in size).
  19. Groundhog? http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/4f/Closeup_groundhog.jpg
  20. I don't understand charging people who subscribe to the print edition. That should be a perk. Their justification is there is a lot of content that is online but not in the printed editions. Also, they are being very vague about what content will remain free and what counts towards your 20 views. The editors in the comments say that if you van get the info elsewhere, it is free.
  21. I saw it announced today that Madison dot com will become a pay site as well. People get 20 free views of "premium" content (which was not spelled out in the article), but must register after 5 views. The cost is $4.95/month, but $1.95 if you already subscribe to the newspaper.
  22. My wife has a job interview on Thursday, and she was sent an e-mail today for an interview on Wednesday. She is concerned about being gone 2 days now. She asked the question...does she tell her supervisor why she is taking time off?
  23. People who take rec league softball too seriously.
  24. Flour beetle? http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/projects/genome/guide/img/beetle.jpg I know you said grayish, and these are brown, but we had these once upon a time, and they were nearly impossible to get rid of. We just cleaned every day, and avoided crumbs anywhere, and they went away.
  25. I once broke a toe standing up from the toilet. I had passed out, elbows on knees. When I woke up, my legs were asleep, so I fell when I stood up, hitting my toe against the wall. Large quantities of beer may or may not have been involved. I have 1) blew out a knee downhill skiing. Simple scope, but I had a blood clot that burst in my quad, turning it into jello (doctor's words); 2) Severely injured my shoulder throwing pop-ups; 3) hurt my knee curling. I'm sure there is more, but those are the ones that stand out.
