  1. With the strength he is swinging, I'm not convinced he can get the bat to spin that much in the air. Also, it looks like the bat loses all of its forward momentum when he lets go. How could that happen? I say fake.
  2. That rain and lightning was nuts last night. It's been a long time since I have seen such constant lightning for such a long period of time. I think I got so exhausted just after 1:00 that I crashed...thunder/lightning or not. I'm acutally hoping for another round today, just to get rid of the humidity. It's downright oppressive (I'm in a place that has no AC at the moment).
  3. I got just under an hour of sleep. Constant lightning and thunder are keeping me up. I sure hope we don't hear sirens tonight...
  4. It poured briefly, and now there is quite a bit of lightning out there....just as I was about to go to bed.
  5. Echo Tap. We're now in league 8 (started in league 12) and play on the west side. How about you? Just a note, I'd be interested. Just pick a day, and I'll see if I can make it.
  6. Right on cue. As I was reading your post, I saw the screen crawl, but it's a tornado watch, not a thunderstorm watch.
  7. Ok, so is this severe threat overblown for today, or are we still going to see some fireworks this evening? It's 7:15, and it's fine outside...just humid. I sure hope it's not a 1 AM storm that comes through again...I'm tired of those. Regarding storm chasing...I'd never do it on my own. I would love to tag along with some pros (but be in the way), or do one of those storm chasing vacations. Like I said, the Mrs. probably would veto any attempt of mine to actually go chasing.
  8. Bring it on!!! I'll look forward to seeing Bob Lindmeier on Channel 27 at his finest. I can see it now...he breaks in... Just wanted to keep you updated on the severe weather threat for today. A bolt of lightning was spotted about 3 miles southeast of Platteville, or 4 miles southwest of Belmont. That storm appears to be moving east northeast at about 25 miles an hour. At this speed, it should be hitting the western part of Dane county in about an hour and a half. If any other lightning strikes are reported, or if rain drops begin hitting windshields, we will let you know. Stay tuned to channel 27 for further weather updates. Obsessed....you went on a storm chasing trip? I would love to do that, but Mrs. NMF doesn't think that's such a good idea.
  9. The former BF.net Madison affiliate won again, 16-12, to make it to 7-0 on the season. The bats came alive, hitting 2 over-the-fence home runs tonight. That makes 18 in a row.
  10. Who poses that way after a routine catch? Doesn't matter how many outs there are...it's not like he had to slide to catch that ball. Oh, Milton Bradley, go back to making board games.
  11. For the um-teenth time in both schools' histories, Monroe and Port Washington face each other again in a state tournament. This time around, it's softball. Another NMF-Hawing battle! I hope for the first time, Port emerges victorious.
  12. I enjoyed the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame. That's about the only thing I've done in Cleveland.
  13. I saw this map on a t-shirt last year, and thought it was really cool (can't find the t-shirt for sale anywhere, though...it was a limited time thing). I think the UP tends to lean towards the Brewers. I remember being up there a few years ago and the Brewers were on FM radio. Also, Iowa isn't 100% loyal to the Cubs. It's a pretty even split between the Cubs, Cardinals and Twins. There is also a small Brewer presence now, but it is very small.
  14. I'm also a UW alum, and would love to see baseball return. I think there are 2 reasons the powers that be won't bring it back...1) cost and 2) facility. I think if the athletic department came out and said, "we'll bring baseball back, but we need donations to do so", people would line up to write a check. But then there is the sustainability issue. There is also the cost of adding a women's sport to be Title IX compliant. Add women's gymnastics and a crew boat or 2...shouldn't cost that much. The other issue is the lack of an on-campus facility. I'd argue that they could play at Warner Park where the Mallards play...at least in the short term, then worry about an on-campus stadium later. The other underlying issue that I could see is how successful would it be? The team would spend most, if not all of the early part of the season on the road, much like the softball team does. When they finally do get home, it would be during our nice, cold spring. I do think, however, that they could make it really fun, like the Mallards do, so they attract people to the games.
  15. Lightning hit our apartment building over the weekend, and fried the internet infrastructure. I've been without internet at home since then, and the company who is in charge of the system won't be able to fix it until I can be home during the day, which is hard. I gave them permission to enter my apartment while I'm gone, but I'll guarantee they won't come in. It also fried the elevator, which is still not fixed (not as big of a deal), and the garage door. I still don't know how my computer survived the strike. The only reason why it's really bugging me is because of the amount of stuff that is all online right now. I have to pay bills and do online banking, and I hate doing that type of stuff at work.
  16. According to reports, Dozier took the SAT in December 2003, then again in July 2004...it was months apart, not years. The first time he "took" it, he scored a 1260, then scored a 720 months later. He took it again because his score was invalidated by ETS, the company who administers and scores the test. I'm not giving him any leeway on this, and if Georgia of all programs wouldn't take him, it should have been a huge red flag right there.
  17. I think there will be a lot more of this coming out in the future. When I first heard about this, I couldn't help but think about the NBA's 19-year old rule, and how that may have led to academic problems in college, and maybe to an extent, schools "cheating" to get that one year of service out of that player. I'm not sure if that rule had any role in Robert Dozier's SAT, but may have impacted Derrick Rose's. He knew he had to go to college, but only for a year, so why bother with school? He won't get punished at all for cheating on his SAT, and the school wasn't aware enough (or turned a blind eye to the matter) to question it like Georgia did with Dozier. I'm wondering if colleges are quietly wanting the NBA to rescind that rule, because I'm guessing they are thinking it is hurting college basketball. As I stated before, this is just the tip of the iceberg. We'll soon be learning about basketball players not attending classes and failing their spring classes, because they know they are one-and-done in college. If you know you are going to the draft in June (or July, whenever it is), why would you go to classes after basketball is over? Heck, why keep going once the second semester gets going? The worst part is, they are taking a scholarship away from someone else...someone who may actually earn a degree and who may not be an NBA player.
  18. Yahara Hills is one of the city courses, and I don't think they really do twilight golf rates (or any real discount rates any time of day). A lot of the courses have early bird specials. The one course I do know that normally has twilight rates (after 3:00 tee times) is University Ridge, but it's a bit pricey.
  19. Capital is also a pretty good microbrew, but I don't think they distribute nationally either. Leinenkugel's is a Wisconsin beer, and they have a pretty large operation going, selling in a lot of states (including Nevada...not sure about California). It's probably a step above the microbrew, but definitely not a Miller beer (though it's owned by Miller, technically). I have found that contacting the breweries directly often yields quick answers (that sort of comes across as sarcastic...sorry...not trying to be). Smaller breweries are usually more helpful than the big ones. Just find their customer service number or e-mail address to see if there is any way to arrange you getting the brew of your choice.
  20. I would say that "Yada, yada, yada" had a lot of staying power. People still say that quite a bit.
  21. We're looking in Madison at the moment, and anything less than $200K is either 900 sq. ft., in need of major work (lots of angry people when they were foreclosed on), or in the not-so-good parts of town. I'm not convinced the market cooled off here one bit.
  22. Three houses I really liked are not available any more. One was pulled off the market, one had an offer within 3 days of being listed, and the other had an accepted offer. We were just too slow.
  23. Southwest Airlines is beginning service from Milwaukee starting November 1. I've never flown Southwest, but they always rank really high on customer service surveys, and have some pretty cheap deals (even when you include the additional fees).
  24. There are 3 hockey teams...Rangers, Islanders and Devils. Yes, the Devils are, "New Jersey", but they play in the parking lot of a stadium that hosts 2 "New York" teams.
  25. It could be worse...you could have trains literally right across the street (and face the train tracks).
