  1. Chalk another one up for staying in Arizona. As a vacation spot (non-family, however), I enjoyed Arizona MUCH more than I enjoyed Florida. A lot of people who go to spring training go down there for that specific purpose, and it doesn't get any easier to go to spring training than to fly in to Phoenix. Maryvale is a very short, easy drive from the airport, and it is really easy to follow the team around for a few days. As far as distance from Milwaukee...I'd estimate that a majority fly to the southern destinations in March, and it's not that much longer of a flight to go to Phoenix than it is anywhere in Florida (maybe half hour, 45 minutes longer). I honestly see no good reason that a move to Florida would be positive, from either a fan's perspective or for the team.
  2. Loved: Jeff Cirillo Mark Loretta David Weathers Darryl Hamilton Hated: Alex Sanchez Gary Sheffield Johnny Estrada Wes Helms
  3. I will no longer get player-specific jerseys. Here are the ones I've had and the result of the player... Sterling Sharpe...career ended the year after I got his jersey Mark Chmura...career ended plus the trial two years after LeRoy Butler...retired two years after Patrick Roy (Montreal)...traded to Colorado the year I got his jersey That's it...no more player jerseys for me because the player will be gone within 2 years of getting a jersey.
  4. Isn't he in Nashville at the moment? Even though he's in the minors, I'd say he no longer qualifies as an ex-Brewer.
  5. I also love living here. I was one that left after college, but I loved it so much, I came back two years later. Now, there are forces trying to pull me elsewhere, and the strength of this city is winning so far. I hope it continues and I end up (or my wife ends up) getting full-time work in this town, instead of all of this part-time stuff.
  6. The last thing you do before you go off to your own wedding is post on Brewerfan.net (which I did, and was mentioned in the write up for the best fan site last summer).
  7. My wife and I are watching this, and it is fantastic.
  8. 1. Golf 2. Softball/baseball 3. Bowling 4. Volleyball 5. Roller hockey 6. Football 7. Badminton 8. Basketball I really don't actually play that many sports, though...the first three, and that's about it. I at one time have played all of the above, however. Are golf and bowling considered sports?
  9. Ahhh, true...I read the post way too fast...
  10. First off, try updating iTunes to the newest version (if you haven't already).
  11. I don't like the DH, so I'd welcome getting rid of it. Regarding retractable roofs...it would be really, really expensive, and how to you fit a roof over stadiums that currently don't have one? I have no problem with different dimensions of fields, but I do have problems with stadiums that have giant mounds and flag poles in play (Houston, I'm looking at you). Changes I'd make... 1) Home field advantage in the World Series would be granted to the team with the best record. No more of this All-Star stuff. 2) Schedule regular double headers. It would shorten the duration of the season by a couple days, but maintain the same amount of games. It could help injuries and such by having an extra couple of days off here and there. 3) End "natural rival" interleague games and go to a rotation, just like the NFL does. The problem is how would you schedule the NL Central and the AL West? That way, fans would get to see every team. The Brewers have been in the NL for 10 years now, and Tampa has yet to come to Miller Park. I also don't think they've played the White Sox since they switched leagues, yet us fans see the Twins every year.
  12. Holy small ball, Batman! I like seeing smart, aggressive base running (though I'm not sure Kendall stealing on 0-2 was smart, but it worked out really well).
  13. Nice play by Hall right there. Does Braun make that play?
  14. I'm a part-time employee at a Hilton brand hotel. We have generous travel discounts. Here's a link to the rates employees get... Hilton employee rates
  15. What a shot by Weeks! First pitch, I'll take it. I sure hope we score more than that one run today...
  16. I was wondering, as others were, what the self-fanning was all about. He sure did it a lot. One thing I liked is how he bounced back after giving up the home run. He looked much better, and was able to get his off-speed and breaking ball over the plate, thus making his fastball much better. I thought he threw way too many fastballs to the first three hitters, and he paid for it. His bouncing back made me feel better about him. Turnbow would have probably imploded after that. Over the course of a long season, he's going to have his moments, as every closer has, of struggle. It's just too bad one of them was during opening day.
  17. "Tales of Brave Ulysses" by Cream
  18. Yes and no. The school district has to request that you get an emergency license. If you are applying for a critical shortage area, such as ESL or Special Ed, and are enrolled or planning on enrolling in a certification program, a school district can request that you be granted a provisional license. I think, however, they have to prove to the DPI that there were no suitable licensed teachers to fill that position. So the district is awarded the license, which they make you pay for. I'm actually going to try this route for Special Ed. I think I'm going to enroll in a certification program this summer, apply for jobs, and be certified by next spring. Also, if you get a job in a critical shortage area, and keep it for 5 years, I think student loans are forgiven.
  19. If it is noisy, and a camera clicks, does the golfer hear it? Probably not. But it's silent, so the sound of a camera is quite noticeable. I'm not sure why complete silence is mandated (and this is coming from a golfer). I personally don't like sudden loud noises in my swing, but constant loud noises don't bother me so much. I can swing with train horns blasting (as long as it's not the first time it blasts), traffic going by and stuff like that. There is considerable concentration in a golf swing, and I have messed up quite a bit when I get distracted.
  20. I wish they would put it in plain terms... Married or single? Did you get a refund or did you owe money? If you make under X amount, you get this much...over X amount, this much. It would be so much easier to understand than "tax liability" and such. So, I'm married, filed married, got a refund, make under $75,000 (or is it $150,000 because I'm married?)... Do I expect $600, or $1200? I think it's $600 because I got a refund.
  21. When did you realize you wanted to teach? Junior year of college Why do you like teaching? I'm a sub, so I'm not sure if I'm qualified to answer this question Where did you go to school for education? UW-Milwaukee, post-baccalaureate program (I have my BA in history, wanted to get certified without getting a degree). Do you have any recommendations for me in the Milwaukee area? UWM, definitely. You get in-state/undergrad tuition. There aren't tons of requirements, either. Plan on it taking 3-4 semesters if you go full time, along with some summer courses. Anything else to add? Sadly, you are thinking of going into one of two subject areas that are saturated with teachers, Social Studies being the other one (I should know, I'm a Social Studies guy), though there are less English people looking for jobs than Social Studies. If you do English, try specializing in reading, ESL or something. Also, consider getting dual certified, in English and Special Ed (if you really want to get a job). Regarding your question about subbing and being certified...it depends on the district. I sub in Madison, and you must be certified to be a sub in Madison. One other thing...student teaching is full time, but you have to pay full-time tuition to do it, you don't get a dime. If you go through the program at UWM, they try to put you through MPS to student teach. When I was going through the program, there were more of us than there were student teaching positions available in MPS, so we were allowed to seek out our own or were assigned outside MPS. I was at Pius (I knew someone there), and knew people who were were assigned to West Allis, New Berlin, etc...
  22. Well, I'll be one who will not say their birthplace or the place I grew up. I was born in central Iowa. I don't remember living there (we moved to WI when I was a year and a half old), but my extended family still lives down there. It's sort of miserable. Nothing but corn fields and gravel roads. I grew up in Port Washington, and I don't miss it there, either. It's about this time of year when we can start looking forward to warmer temps in the spring, but "cooler near the lake" is prevalent in Port starting about now. It's a bedroom community with nothing to do unless you own a very large boat, which most people don't. Sure, it's got Fish Day, but that's one lousy day. Aside from that, I've lived in Madison, then to Milwaukee and back to Madison. I moved back to Madison because I hated living in Milwaukee. I'm sure Milwaukee would have been fine had I never stepped foot in Madison. I like it because it is big enough, but not too big. It lacks a lot of problems big cities have, but still has a lot of things smaller cities don't have. I love the lakes and the bike paths and the activities around the Capitol. Plus, I can still make it to a Brewer game and be home around midnight.
  23. Either Vitense or Bogey's in Middleton. Those are the only two I know of in Madison.
  24. 3- yellow, Dijon and brown/brat mustard.
