  1. Celebrating Columbus Day. I'm a history nerd, so I've studied this quite a bit. Yeah, he was the first Italian-sailing for Portugal explorer to make landfall at the western hemisphere, but I find it difficult to celebrate someone that "discovered" a land that was already inhabited, and the land was "discovered" by the Vikings years before. Columbus never stepped foot on the present-day US mainland, so why do we celebrate it?
  2. Night time cold medicine that only lasts 4 hours. I don't like waking up in the middle of the night after taking a supposed night time medicine. Give me 8 hours, please.
  3. ESPN showing high school football on TV. I just don't get it. Do people actually watch the "best" teams in the country or really care how the "best" recruits are playing?
  4. I tend to like wheats (which tend to be sweeter) and beer with a bit more malt, like Lakefront Riverwest Stein. If it gets too hoppy, it gets too bitter for me. Good dark ales are always a great way to go as well. As for specific beer, I will only buy the macrobrews (only Miller) for events where a lot of beer will be consumed, like after softball. Otherwise, I stick to beer brewed in Wisconsin for the most part. I like Leinie's, especially Honey Weiss and Oktoberfest. I'm also a big fan of Capital Island Wheat and Point brews a good product for how cheap it is. But one of my all-time favorite beers is New Glarus Yokel. Outside of beers from Wisconsin, I love German beer. Fraziskaner and Spaten are fantastic.
  5. I had the theme song to "The Office" stuck in my head yesterday, but thanks to this topic, Business Time will be planted there the rest of the day.
  6. I found this topic from July, so I am reviving it because of Chipper Jones's comments... If you didn't see or read what he said, he was complaining about the balls and strikes the other day. He said it's getting ridiculous and Questec needs to be brought in right away to fix the problem. The comment made me think about using technology in general to get calls correct. I think I am against using Questec in games. It should be used by umps after games to see where they messed up so they can become more consistent. However, I think replay should be used on close plays in the field, but keep it limited like football does. Baseball is the only major sport that does not implement some type of replay in their games. Basketball uses it on a limited basis, but at least they have it. Why not use it on a close play at a base or to determine a home run? If the umpires' egos are at issue, tell them to leave. MLB has already called the bluff of the umpires (when a whole bunch quit), so they are not irreplaceable. The other argument is it would add time to an already long game. If you look at football, most pro games start at noon. When do they end? A lot of them don't end until 3:15-3:30...over 3 hours. I'd venture to say that most baseball games are shorter than 3 hours.
  7. I always thought they superimposed the shoreline on that shot (but I knew it wasn't Great America). It just looks so fake.
  8. I'm from Port Washington, and when that show first came on, we were all angry that they didn't use any scenery from Port. When they showed the sign, "Port Washington, Wisconsin", they even had the population wrong. What was worse was the stupid amusement park. People would come to Port and ask where it was. When I got to college and told people where I was from, they all said, "Oh, Step by Step". I got in an argument with someone once about that blasted amusement park. She told me that she was there over the summer and went to the park, and she didn't believe me when I said we didn't have one, but it was 90 miles south.
  9. I went with Mutants of 2051, but the AD didn't fit...I had a 20 character limit on Yahoo. No one else caught the reference, but it was really clever.
  10. I absolutely love this show. We stumbled upon it during episode 5 during the "Business Time" video, and could not stop laughing. The episode they went on tour was one of my favorite episodes so far. I love "Bowie in Space", "Business Time", and the wife love "Mermaid".
  11. I went with Uecker as well. Another thing that should be added to his resume should be the Miller commericals, and Admiral commercials with the Zamboni. I grew up trying to imitate the home run call, and the call itself made it in to Miller Park by Bernie's slide. He is the MC for every major event at Miller Park, and everyone, regardless if they are a baseball fan or not, knows who he is.
  12. I've heard the Orange Bowl isn't in the best shape, and that it's in a not-so-good part of town. I'm sure it is easier for the U to just move instead of going through the hoops to get some funds to update and fix the Orange Bowl.
  13. People who, without prompting, start talking about politics and controvertial issues with you. This especially bugs me when I don't agree with what they are saying, but for whatever reason, they assume I agree with them 100%. At work today, I had a guy talk to me about some stuff..."The government should do this, you know?" or "The government shouldn't do this, you know?" But I don't agree with you! All I could do is nod my head and smile, because I'm not going to start a political debate with people, especially at work.
  14. Why do they do this to us? Why? All the promise of a blow out, and the final score will probably be 9-3, not the Brewers.
  15. That's one of my favorite episodes. Lionel Hutz: This is the most blatant case of false advertising since my suit against the Never Ending Story. Lionel: Mrs. Simpson, where did you go when you left the restaurant? Marge: We pretty much went straight home. Lionel: Mrs. Simpson, remember, you are under oath. Marge: We drove around until 3:00 AM looking for another all you can eat seafood restaurant. Lionel: When you didn't find any? Marge: (in shame) We went fishing. Lionel: Does this sound like a man who had all he could eat?
  16. My dad uses them all the time, but I just can't do it.
  17. Jasper: Talking out of turn, that's a paddling. Staring out the window, that's a paddling. Looking at my sandals, that's a paddling. Paddling the school canoe, ohhh, you'd better believe that's a paddling. _________ Homer: Haven't you learned anything from that guy who gives those sermons at church? Captain what's his name? _________ Homer: Marge? Since I'm not talking to Lisa, would you please ask her to pass me the syrup? Marge: Dear, please pass your father the syrup, Lisa. Lisa: Bart, tell Dad I will only pass the syrup if it won't be used on any meat product. Bart: You dunkin' your sausages in that syrup homeboy? Homer: Marge, tell Bart I just want to drink a nice glass of syrup like I do every morning. Marge: Tell him yourself, you're ignoring Lisa, not Bart. Homer: Bart, thank your mother for pointing that out. Marge: Homer, you're not not-talking to me and secondly I heard what you said. Homer: Lisa, tell your mother to get off my case. Bart: Uhhh, dad, Lisa's the one you're not talking to. Homer: Bart, go to your room.
  18. Aww...5 days, I'm mad now!
  19. Lisa, in this house we obey the laws of thermodynamics!
  20. Hi everybody! You have reached 1-800-DOCTORB, the B is for bargain! Bye Everybody!
  21. Now that I am at work, let the time wasting begin!!! greasy teen: That man ate all our shrimp, and 2 plastic lobsters! Captain McCallister: 'Tis no man, 'tis a remorseless eating machine, argh! Fireman: Homer, I don't know how to tell you this, but we're going to have to cut your arms off. Homer: They'll grow back right? Fireman: Homer, are you just holding on to the candy? Homer: Your point being? Homer singing: I am so smart, I am so smart, s-m-r-t, I mean s-m-a-r-t. Homer singing: I am the champions, I am the champions, of the world.
  22. Marge: There's a man here who can help you. Homer: Batman? Marge: No, he's a scientist. Homer: Batman's a scientist. Marge: It's not Batman!
  23. I will post all day long... Homer: Oh, Lisa, you and your stories. Bart is a vampire, beer kills brain cells. Now let's go back to that building thingy, where our beds and TV....is.
  24. Greased Pigs Angry Monkeys Let's Go Bowling
  25. I don't know why Yost got angry at Estrada today, I didn't see the game. But, in my opinion, there is an issue with hustle with Estrada, and maybe something happened today that put Yost over the edge. I'm still not convinced Estrada was injured last week. I think Yost benched him because of his lack of hustle on that double play in extra innings vs. the Reds. I'm kind of hoping that the team does what it did two years ago after losing the series to the Devil Rays...go behind closed doors, get everything out of their system, then proceed to do very well down the stretch. This team has no sense of urgency right now. Hitters can't hit with RISP, pitchers (especially the bullpen) can't throw strikes, and they are just doing dumb things that they weren't doing earlier in the year. I'm not saying what happened today was a good or a bad thing, but maybe it will lead to something down the road.
