  1. Maybe if you look at the trade value site and completely ignore the last 2 months of production... Exactly! Don't look now, but Trent Grisham might just work his way back up into the next Top 100 prospect lists. In fact, I'd be surprised if he doesn't. And while I know the projections are still across the board on Dubon, I still really like his versatility and I just think that kid is driven to be an every day big leaguer. Honestly, I'd have a major issue even just giving up one of those guys for a 2 month reliever rental! I know it costs prospects to get better this time of year, but if we are going to go get a reliever rental - I'd rather shop more in the "thrift" bin and find another Soria or Swarzak type guy from the past two seasons. Can we actually keep a guy or two with a nice BB to K ratio?
  2. It's close to me just because it had been 26 years without playoff baseball and the energy was off the charts. Throw in the Cubs playoff tie breaker and entire postseason, it's 2018 without a doubt.
  3. I'll post the guy's response/answer now (before comments get out of hand): The security guy said that is on average one or two a game. Madscientist was "on target" with this one. Also, this question to the security guard was just about guns being snuck into the stadium. Knives and other weapons were not mentioned.
  4. I was intrigued about the Brewers in 2003 and 2004 They still lost 90 games, but with Ned and a bunch of great young players on the way, it was going to be fun seeing the team get better. At a meet and greet with fans in the fall of 2003, Ned, Doug and Payne received standing ovations, remarkably, for a still bad team. In 2005, I was energized with. .500 record. In 2007, everyone was super pumped with a 24-12 start. In 2008, everyone was thinking playoffs. I remember Mark A. saying 3 million fans and 90 wins at the start of the season. Boy, was this season a big one, in my mind. The fans were now expecting the playoffs, and the crowds were nuts, both in number and energy. To put it into perspective, over half of the home games were official sellouts, with a streak of them from late July to Labor Day. That would include a bunch of weekdays and weeknights! Think about how difficult it is now to sellout any Monday or Tuesday night game! Even though 2011 and 2018 playoffs were beyond great in terms of energy and fun at the ballpark, I don't think a regular season matches 2008 in terms of excitement (that last week was amazing, wasn't it?).
  5. Out of curiosity, I decided to ask a security worker at the Miller Park metal detector a question while waiting in line to enter on Monday night. The question was, "Approximately how many guns do you guys find in bags that people try to sneak into games?" My dad and I went back and forth on this question, not really sure if the number would be high or low. With conceal and carry laws in the state, you never know how many people legally have guns usually on them and would want to find ways to get a gun in their posesession at a large sporting event for safety precautions. After asking this worker (probably late 30's male), we debated the accuracy of his estimates, especially on our ride home. What would you guess? I'll post this security worker's response/estimate later this weekend. Also, if we could get a few more people going to today's game to ask a similar question to security staff, that would help get at the truth of this question a bit more.
  6. With Grandy and Moose, we have a better shot at the playoffs now than next year. It's at about 5 to 10% for me if we retain just one of them, and the production between C and 3B will not be as high next year regardless of what happens this offseason. Because of this, I see the team buying big at the deadline. A big name starter that is controlled for 2 or 3 years, helping them for next year, along with a couple of relief arms on the cheaper side, prospect wise, would be my guess. I would not be surprised to see 4 or 5 of our top 10 prospects moved, along with one of our 1B. We are not in rebuild mode. That will happen IMO around 2021 or 2022 when we move Yelich, Hader, Shaw, Woodruff, etc.
  7. And a periodical hurting back ALREADY...
  8. Do fans really though? I mean we all obviously love Yelich A LOT...but doesn't seem he has the ungodly appeal Braun had before everything went down. Yelich is even more popular than Braun. Braun had Fielder to compete with, as many loved Fielder even more than Braun.
  9. Don't extend Yelly now, if ever. Too costly, sadly. Perhaps the next collective bargaining agreement will have more revenue sharing for teams to extend stars.
  10. Agree totally.... We feel entirely different about our team if we have Bum and a great setup guy.
  11. If he hasn't lost confidence yet, he isn't human.
  12. Is there a reason Woodruff, our best pitcher, is pitching on Tuesday- a full week after the All Star Game? This is quite different from Ned's/Doug's CC useage in 2008 when he pitched the Sun and Friday around the Break. He's not in CC's #1 type ace category yet, but he has been the Brewers best pitcher and arguably a top 10 pitcher in all of baseball the last two months. If it's to limit his innings, I haven't heard this. Now, he lines up to pitch against the Braves, Dbacks, and the Cubs twice. My guess is that the two Cubs games pitched against the Cubs is the main reason. All I heard is a vague reason that Craig likes the team's pitching matchups after the break.
  13. Half game out of the 2nd WC STILL! Get some bullpen help and let's GO!
  14. What are we.... 2 or 3 games out of the WC and division? We are a very good team that can hardly play worse. We are getting reinforcements (bullpen) soon.
  15. The pen will look unrecognizable in two weeks.
  16. 6 for 180? That isn't happening for any pitcher any time soon in Milwaukee... They pay real money and it's all guaranteed.
  17. The Brewers have reverted back to 2016 and 2017 when they led the HiSTORY of baseball with strikeouts for a MLB team. Contact hitters needed at the deadline
  18. Which prospects have to be added to the 40 man next year? The amount of guys being left OFF or removed from it and subject to the Rule 5 draft might be a main issue. Just like last year in August, some extra prospects needed to be moved anyway. We couldn't keep them all. Will there be as noticeable crunch as last year?
  19. More Revenue sharing and salary cap.... that will take care of many of the player association's issues. If the big markets object to this, as sure as is expected, then perhaps wiggle room ala the NBA and exceptions could be brought in. Perhaps exceptions to signing your own drafted players to FA deals could be worked in. Maybe a soft cap could be used, but then again, a luxury tax is sort of that right now.
  20. It's difficult to wrap my head around the idea that more bunts will make the game more exciting and increase fan attendance. I would love to watch the conversation of a potential employee trying to convince a GM that more bunts will let his team score more runs after they had mashed homeruns the previous year and set a club scoring record (not referring to the Brewers here). Fans may not be going to the games for any number of reasons; one of the main reasons likely being cost. The game is slow and long. I like baseball and all, but come on.... this is obvious. More action in the game, more steals and balls put in play, less long counts, more strategy in general rather than waiting for the big HR.... more of this is needed. Too much of the game is between pitcher and catcher.
  21. The players are full of it..... they are coming off as huge entitled pricks in a more and more tough to watch sport (more K's, longer games, more dead time, less strategy with bunts and steals) that is driving folks away already. Throw in a strike? Brutal damage to the game. If they truly want more money up front to players in their first three years AND 30+ year old FA, get more revenue sharing and a salary cap/floor. Don't be so staunch against that if the players truly want meaningful change. If they want all teams to compete each year to win through FA, you can't have as wide gaps between what MLB teams rake in financially each year. Like Bob Costas said in his book many years ago, a better and more simple way of revenue sharing would be to split up all money (tv, gate, online, etc.) associated with EACH game to the two teams playing. The big markets would still get a majority of the money because of big tv deals, larger gates, etc., but the gap wouldn't nearly be as wide as now.
  22. Long term, we do have Wahl and Knebel coming back next year.
  23. Would Arcia, Burnes, and Houser get it done?
