  1. Not sure if he's open to an extension, but Moose has been a spark to this team, not only last September but also this April. I wonder if he'd consider a two year extension at 12 or 13 million a year. Reasons... 1. He obviously enjoys the group, can see the core is together for a while yet, and knows the team should be very competitive, at least. 2. He also has not been treated kindly, comparatively, on the FA market the past two winters. He might be open to a shorter deal here (and now). 3. Moose could play at 1B, 2B, or 3B for the near future, giving the team flexibility to trade for need, along with insurance if Hiura, Aguilar, and/or Shaw struggle. 4. With Grandal probably moving on next year, along with Thames option probably not being picked up, another power lefty bat should be affordable. Maybe he doesn't want to even talk extension and maybe the Brewers feel covered in the infield with Hiura (and Dubon) coming up. Yet, he has been a winning ingredient with the team, and the idea of not having him with Yelich and Cain next year is not ideal in my mind.
  2. The plan is to pick up relievers in June or July for prospects. I can't believe we can afford Kimbrel now after Grandal, Moose, and Gio.
  3. Too bad CC put his mouth too open last year and said that this guy is a starter.... guessing that he'd like to have those words back. I think Burnes will still be excellent as a starter for us. Yet, maybe next year is a better plan if the pen continues to struggle and Gio/Nelson can solidify the rotation.
  4. It at least was a Friday night. Unfortunately the alternative to not waiting it out is to have even more games to make up along the way. There were probably people at the game that could not have attended a hypothetical make-up game. Regardless of what you do about rain someone won't be happy. People could sell a future game ticket, though. Refunds work too, if baseball truly cares. And even if you COULD stay because it was a Friday night/no school or work the next day, who wants to stay in a ballpark for 6 or 7 hours in a row and get home at 2 or 3 in the mornin? Few.
  5. Glad they won but total BS this game was played.... what fan wants to start watching a baseball game at 10 ET? How many families went to that game, left around 8 or 9, and have to eat the $100 to $200 on tickets? Baseball needs a rule or more common sense rule with when a game should be called.
  6. I agree the game has changed, but the Brewers are still dead last in innings per start. The amount of innings our bullpen is eating up is a concern given the lack of top end arms in said bullpen. This really shouldn't be a question given our starters ERA is a shade under double digits... but .... who's spot in the rotation does he take? Davies and Chacin are probably locked in the rotation right now. That leaves Woodruff, Anderson, and Peralta. If Anderson throws the ball well tomorrow again, would they take another one of the young arms out of the rotation? As of today, I think it's pretty simple. Davies, Chacin, Anderson, Gio, Woodruff. Peralta can go to AAA when he comes off IR. This will change, likely often, as we go through the season. If Woodruff can't hold down a rotation spot, he goes to the pen where he can be effective. No point in AAA trip for him. Burnes and Houser can be used in the pen, not sure what to do with Peralta. But right now, there's not exactly a problem of having too many good starting pitchers. Burnes will be in the rotation....
  7. Easy yes..... why couldn't they have a pitcher for 10 years that averages 10 wins a season? Come, now, have a little faith, people.
  8. Burnes went 3 innings, no runs, 1 hit, 3BB, 3K's on Monday night.
  9. IMO the issue is: People on this site trust David Stearns to build a quality pen on the cheap. Because that’s Stearns M/O. People on this site love Mark Attanasio and believe when he said we’re “all in”and have done what we can do budget wise other than at the trade deadline, believe him with all of their heart and minds. I call it small-marketitis, with blind trust mixed in. I think our All-In is still 10 million below league avg salary..... Mark A gets an A for ownership, but we still have to have so much to go right, especially with injuries, for us to be elite. Currently, we are in 3rd place, with the only negative run differential in the Central.
  10. Gone are the days of him hitting it hard to right center....
  11. 8 years, 10 million..... funny thing, I could see people on both sides not willing to do it.
  12. Let's just keep it at great ballplayer on a hot streak....
  13. If he was getting lit up against four of the bottom offenses in the league, I would be more concerned and would be with this decision. Not now, but who knows. Hopefully, we see him sooner rather than later.
  14. Every step off or toss to a base should be a ball (not after 3 balls, though). Imagine the fun running on the bases and the amount of time saved not throwing over......
  15. My thought process is this.... if CC really thinks this guy is great, CC should give him some rope to adjust here. Let's have our best pitchers pitch. CC may be right by sending him down, but then CC shouldn't have been pumping up this guy, and the other young starters, to the media in ST only to jerk him after four starts in mid April. One way or another...
  16. Not at all. It sounds like the Brewers have had conversations with Burnes and all agree his LONG future is as a starter. He cannot really work on things in the majors, so the result is 2-5 games in the minors is the goal (they said 2-3). Sometimes a pro golfer needs to take a weekend off and just work on the game. That's basically what they're doing here. It's not like their angry and punishing him by yanking him from the rotation. They're giving him the best chance for success. They're not REPLACING him in the rotation, they'll be FILLING IN for him. Very careful word choice He faced the Cards twice, Cubs and Reds.... probably top 10 offenses once everything plays out. Burnes is a top pitcher for us and needs tweaking, not a bunch of moves back and forth between AAA and majors.
  17. To be fair to Counsell, not sure he expected Burnes to be THAT bad. Yet, he was bragging all three up in ST. They were the story of ST, according to CC.
  18. Lotta BS from Counsell from first week of season of "letting these young guys pitch", "it's their time"..... I'm not saying he's wrong in doing it, but he's pulling the trigger quite early with Burnes after hearing him speak on the topic in the opposite direction for weeks.
  19. He may have the talent to be one of the best pitchers on the staff but he sure isn't performing like it. While it is true he has faced several very good offences that is no excuse for how bad he's been. The other starters have faced the exact same offenses and aren't doing as poorly as Burnes is. I think he can turn it arund but at some point he's going to have to get past the 4th inning if he wants to remain a starter in the majors. [/quote) April 15. Concerned? Sure. He should get another four at least..... regardless of what happens. Have a quick hook, sure, but let the guy pitch. It's April and he has talent. Villar was given months before sitting him down (and then starting him again in the spring).
  20. Four starts? Each needs at least another four starts.
  21. He's one of the best pitchers on the staff...... my guess is that his May will be much better with poorer opponents and more experience under his belt. The teams he has faced have above avg offenses.
  22. My oh my.... First off, taking anyone for granted in the playoffs is a faux pas. Second, the Bucks haven't won a series in what, 18 years? Last, we are one injury from being in a 50/50 coin flip series. I'm hoping the Bucks take nothing for granted.
