He does seem to just drop a lot more pitches that the average catcher. Been thinking the same thing.... dropped maybe 6 already. No damage done, though. He did a great frame on the Osuna K. Huge out.

Sorry, I mean no offense, but this is exactly the kind of panic mentality that good GMs just don't have. Not only is getting Kimbrel not enough, but we NEED to trade for a reliever from the Giants even if Kimbrel signs because he won't pitch right away? It's April. Actually, it's not even April. We are 1 game into the season. Teams don't operate this way. It's so early, you're still evaluating what you have, who might develop and take the next step, etc. We don't even know how long JJ and Nelson are still out for. We don't even know if Knebel is done. I don't even care if they do trade with the Giants, but you don't NEED to do anything at all when you're 1 game into the season. We don't even know what we have yet. Unlike our everyday lineup, I know that we have very little proven talent in the pen or rotation. Letting it ride is one option, maybe the only reasonable option we have right now.

Uhh... blue? No blue.... I know he made the catch and all.... it was a great one in which I jumped around at home for a minute..... but they mentioned this bit about his knees afterward. Were they serious? Is he hurting at all? On one hand, it surely doesn't look like he is in pain based on the catch and celebration, but on the other hand is the comments and Sanford like stuff during past games.

Hader should be out two days. What we don't need is another reliever on the DL.

I get the whole Get Kimbrel thing, but he wants crazy money. Let's all remember that. If it's one year for 15 million, we'll, you might get most to agree on this. The Yanks and Dodgers would do that too. However, it's probably more like 20 for 3 or 4 years for a guy on the downside of his career. It will be an overspend, obviously, to get him. It isn't something a small market can do, usually. Count us as fortunate to get quality Grandal and Moose on pricey, yet short contracts. It's something that small markets usually can't swing, much less afford. I think a trade for a quality reliever or two from other teams would be better.

Did anyone else hear the comment made by post game guys about Cain taking the elevator at Maryvale to "save his knees?" Uh, I am even more concerned about his health. My uncle and I have Cain nicknamed Sanford (and Son) because of the way he looks like he is in pain after a run, throw, or long catch. I sure hope Gamel is the real deal because he is going to be playing in over half the games or even starting over half the games this year.

Jimmy to the pen might make sense if he keeps having pain..... maybe limit his innings and have him be a middle reliever.

I'm not sure why we want both Woodruff and Burnes in the rotation and Andersen in the pen..... Our pen is in total pain and dire need. No Knebel, Jeffress, Woodruff, Burnes, or Soria from last year. I'm not sure a rival manager could have dismantled our strength in a better way, outside of losing Hader. Hopefully, both Jeffress and Knebel can be back midstream and our new guys can help out. Yet, it would put my mind at ease with Burnes or Woodruff in the pen for the time being,

With the extension, that trade is a steal for the Cardinals.... I wonder how the Cards knew he could be extended? Most guys don't extend when they are a year away from free agency. When is the last time a Brewer has been extended right before his final year (before FA)?

He could pitch better than ever, and he still won't start opening day.... just can't see the team putting the extra pressure on him from the get go.... no reason for it.

Peter Gammons was just on MLB radio and suggested as a possible answer to the potential labor strife > raising min salary first three years to Somewhere between 1-2 mil. Simple solution. Boy am I smart! Ha That would add like 20 million to the payroll... I'm not sure small market teams would be in favor of this. I like the simplified ideas, though. Something similar, sure.

Side show not worth it...

I think another long strike would be devastating to the game. It would never recover. The young fan will find another summer outlet and the old will be fed up paying $200 plus per game for his/her family. The really old would watch more of the game show channel. It's possibly another boxing tragedy story. To me, it's about the Milwaukee Brewers winning a World Series, however that would come. Then again, a prolonged strike might even change that when the narrative is all about the players and owners..... not the taken for granted fan.

Moose is better by a little bit. If his power were equal to Marwin, I'd take Marwin..... but it's not. Big lefty power hitter at Miller, plays good d, nice clubhouse guy.....

Go to a Brewers practice.... in the past on Brewers away game days, the team practiced in Maryvale from roughly 9-11(?). It was free to attend. A couple dozen people there. You stand/sit right next to the field... extremely fun up close. Talk to the players.

"All in," as in all your blue chips in for this one hand (season)...... I don't agree with. If they are truly all in, Hiura is centerpiece for a #1 or #2 pitcher with multiple years left.

There's probably less than .00001% chance that the Brewers are having any internal discussions of Aguilar playing 3B on anything more than an emergency basis. Unlike us armchair managers, the Brewers brass have shown that they value defense, and the defensive metrics very highly. The numbers last year showed that. Aguilar at 3B full time, for even a month would be a hot mess. It's no secret that you personally prefer lineups that get the most offensive pop at every position but the Brewers have shown that they absolutely value defense. That's why guys like Perez and Arcia have value to them. I think more than a few were surprised when they acquired Moustakas and shifted Shaw to second, but obviously they trusted their shift metrics (and Shaw) to at least hold the fort there, and he did just that. Aguilar is not Shaw. Aguilar made a few nifty plays here and there, but putting him at 3rd for 6 weeks just isn't a solution. As HNW said, now you're downgrading defense at multiple positions. Shaw to 2nd to put Moose at 3rd wasn't a defensive downgrade at 3rd, because Moose was (allegedly) a solid 3rd baseman. The Brewers need to be playing games to win them, not handcuffing their own opportunites by putting out suboptimal alignments. Their bullpen (and pitching overall) was so good last year partly because of the defense. Doing stuff like this is going to take a lot away from that. Aguilar played at 3B For 5 games last year. What did you see from those five games that makes you feel he cannot play there for 10 or 15 games? I'll agree that he seems like he really shouldn't play there regularly (body type, range), yet I haven't seen the evidence. Many thought it was crazy to move Shaw over too, but it worked out. I'm not saying Aguilar at 3B and Shaw at 2B should be long term solutions, but I haven't seen the negative yet of playing them in those positions even more, especially when we could get more pop in the lineup. Get a lead, hand it to the pen, and sub them out late in the game.... And Aguilar made several nifty plays (including throws to 2B and over the shoulder catches) at 1B last year.

Just don't like it when players say, "I wish that guy gets what he deserves (in terms of salary)," or "he deserves a big contract." We know what they mean, but it comes out really badly. A typical family pays over $200 to see a MLB game. It's highway robbery. The players don't deserve their $ or time, for that matter. Be gracious and thankful for your own embarrassing riches and just say, "I hope he gets what I believer is his fair market value." Entitled cry babies one way, gracious capitalists the other.... A salary floor probably is part of the solution for this free agency mess..... not sure the perameters, but that would get some of these aging vets a job this season.

Shoring up 2B/SS seems an obvious. Perhaps that will be Moose, moving Shaw to 2B. Who knows what kind of production we will see there the first part of the year, as is. With Hiura in the wings, a one year deal for a good, not fringe MLB player seems to be the play. I mean, it doesn't make sense to get Grandall on a one year deal and not plug another obvious, fixable hole.
