  1. I like the idea of Palmisano getting at bats. Maybe Ned is thinking about Moeller taking the fast train out of town. Rivera and Palmisano may be getting a serious look. God I hope so.

  3. To me, if any closer goes, it's Gossage. The Goose is as good as any, even Eck. But, say Lee Smith makes it. It will open the flood gates. Going by saves only will make them open a new wing in Cooperstown. Guys like Trevor Hoffman and Riveira are no doubters. But, Aguilera, Quisenberry, Reardon, Franco, Henke, Thigpen, Montgomery, and Isringhausen will make it if number of saves gets closers in.
  4. Without a doubt, Yes. Rose did 99% of his damage before he bet on baseball. I can understand it if he was betting when he played, but nothing was proven. Guys get inducted as managers and players, don't they? So just don't induct him as a manager. Guys like Palmeiro and Bonds will make it, whether they have done steroids or not. Ty Cobb and Babe Ruth are in. They were not only the biggest jerks at the time, they were the best players. So was Pete Rose.
  5. Much rather see this: Brady JJ Jenks Lee Fielder Weeks Hall Miller
  6. The first year is almost always a down year.
  7. Vlad Guerrero DH'd quite a bit that year because of back problems. And there will always be an exception to the rule. My point is that guys need to adjust to a different league. It isn't as much of a difference as it used to be, but it does make a difference. Greg, I asked because I thought maybe somebody already knew if there was a stat site that has numbers like that. Don't jump down my throat because you disagree with me. No disrespect intended.
  8. I say give him a chance this year. He changed leagues last year. You people seem to throw that right out the window, like it doesn't mean anything. He will be better next year. Is there a way to find the average decline in a players stats after changing leagues? If there is, look at it, then come back with an argument.
  9. I'm guessing we weren't in the market for Delgado. Another LH hitting first baseman.
  10. i think some of you guys overanalyze things. Do you think Doug Melvin is looking at VORP and total baserunners per RBI? I really don't think so. Bottom line. If Carlos isn't in the middle of the lineup, splitting Jenks and Overbay, we see every lefty in everybody's pen. To me, the main reason 2004 was as bad as it was. Remember Pods, Spivey, Overbay, Jenkins, Branyan hitting 1-5 that year? YUCK. What the general consensus is is that Carlos is good, but we need more for 8.5 million. How? Look at the money that was thrown at free agents last year (Beltre, Beltran, Delgado, etc.). Carlos had better numbers than any of them, for way less money. Plus, everybody overlooks that Carlos changed leagues last year. Almost everybody has a down year after changing leagues. I look for Carlos to go to .290/35/130 next year. Then you same people that want to move him will be begging him to resign here. Now, if you want to contend next year, you don't trade him. No way. You'd have to stick Hart in left field and would have no cleanup hitter. You have to have a right handed stick between Fielder and Jenkins. Trading Lee would put us in the same place we were in 2004.
  11. That is in the top half of almost every category. That means better than average in almost every category (or good). Sure, he's in the teens in a few. But overall, he's better than average. That's the facts. And you didn't count HR or RBI. Those stats mean something too.
  12. You are crazy. There were three other left fielders in the majors that went 30/100: Manny Cabrera Bay While I'd take any of these three guys over Carlos, he is not average. His defense isn't great, but it's average. His baserunning was suprisingly good.
  13. The guy is bored. He rotted on the bench in the second half with an inferior player in front of him. He dominated AAA before he was called up. He shouldn't be in the AFL. Trade Lyle and tell him he's our 1B of the present. He knows how to hit.
  14. This is incredible. Carlos Lee is not average. His average was down this year. True. But he changed leagues this year. Look at the guys who changed leagues this year. Superstars that changed leagues this year: Lee, Beltran, Beltre, and Delgado. Almost every player has a dropoff in that first year. Carlos' was less than the three other players above. Carlos in 2006: .295/38/130 Remember, Brady wasn't a OBP machine in the second half. Weeks slumped too. Nobody that hit ahead of Carlos got on base. Carlos drives in 140 if he has anybody on base in the second half. People on this site say the RBI doesn't mean anything, that it's a fluke. Well look at the list of guys who have more RBI than Carlos in the last 5 years (before 2005). Manny, AROD, Palmeiro, Bonds, and Frank Thomas. Just guessing that Carlos passed the last three (1999-2005). So Manny and AROD are the only two with more RBI than Carlos. And there is talk of not signing him up?
  15. Would you be worried about JJ's defense if you had Weeks and Fielder in you're infield next year? IMO, the range factor is a joke. The SS with the most putouts is the best defensive shortstop? Not necessarily. It may make a difference when comparing players on the same team, at the same position. But that's it.
  16. Why was Eveland in in the first place? Wise was effective and Dana is the only dependable lefty in the pen. You bring him in to face a tough lefty. Berkman switch hits and everybody else in Houston swings from the right side! And there is no way Eveland faces Bagwell. For any reason. Why didn't they intentionally walk Bags anyway? To me, that's the best question of them all. Seems like every big game we lose, Ned makes two or three glaring mistakes. Not questionable moves. Seriously dumb moves.
  17. I'm sure a few sports fans were at the Badger game today. And, it's Labor Day weekend. Don't see alot of people going to Milwaukee for Labor Day.
  18. Nice start. Usually, Williams shuts us right down.
  19. Look at that Padres lineup. God, does that division stink. Fick batting third? Oh my.
  20. They've been closing with Farnsworth lately. Another Cubs mistake.
  21. Helms is 3-7 with a homer career against Burnett. Does he start over Overbay or Branyan tonight? Branyan has never faced Burnett and Overbay is 0-6. I'm not saying that I would start him, but nobody else has good numbers against AJ.
  22. We have a day off tomorrow. Maybe that will be enough.
  23. Evidently, the Astros know Mags can't throw either.
  24. Sutton says Burke's flying around the bases when he's troting into second. Funny.
  25. The problem I have is that we had momentum after we scored those two runs in the fourth. Then the vampire trots back out there. All that momentum is gone. 6 hitters the last two innings. Those two runs the Astros scored in the fourth really took the wind out of the sails.
