  1. After this season, I think the Crew may have to trade Sheets. I don't like it, but he's worth way more than most or all of the FA pitchers from this offseason. A Sexson type deal may be a possibility. Maybe to the Mets. They may need a starter next offseason. Sheets to Mets for Milledge, Heilman, and John Maine? This will be the talk for the next offseason. Guaranteed.
  2. I recieved the first season of Malcolm in the Middle for Christmas. It was on my wishlist. If you didn't get a chance to see this show, rent it and enjoy. Absolutely hilarious. Also, the Pilot episode is laugh out loud funny. Alot of comedy pilots are rough because they havent figured out a "comfort zone" for the characters and a direction for the show, in general. Do yourself a favor. "Malcolm" is a top ten sitcom to me.
  3. Jenkins and Turnbow for Cla Meredith. If we have to give em 3 million, fine.
  4. Has LaRoche ever played LF? Seems like we have a middle infielder that could be traded to Atlanta. Graffanino and Turnbow for LaRoche? Just thinking Brian Roberts isn't much to give up for a guy that seems to be blossoming into a great hitter.
  5. Marquis is not slated to be a start right now. Wood's incentives are all for relief appearances and saves. Wasn't Marmol traded this offseason? If the Cubs want Brady, they will give no more than a reliever or prospect for him. Sean Marshall is pretty darn good. No way he goes.
  6. Josh, did BP say Suppan was going to shut everyone down in the second half last year? Projections from a year and half ago have no relevance. We all thought Sheets was the best pitcher in the NL two years ago. I'm sure he was projected to be better than he has been. Suppan has proven to be dependable. Alot of people whine about if he's better than Davis. The question is, is Davis better than Suppan and Estrada? That answer is no.
  7. Actually, with Hardy at short, our left side of the infield is very good defensively. Koskie suprised me big time. I knew he was good, but he was as good defensively as anybody outside of St Louis last year (at 3B). Weeks was pretty darn good in his last 50 games last year. Impressive compared to the start he had. The light at the end of the tunnel may not be a train. Fielder was much better than the hype last year. I would say he was average when it comes to defense. Prince is a baby and will only improve. Of course, Pujols deserves a gold glove as much as I do. Eckstein and Jeter are the most overrated defensively, IMO. Jeter has no range. He's sure handed, but he isn't very good defensively anymore. If he didn't dive into the stands two years ago, he still wouldn't have a gold glove. Eckstien's arm is horrid. His range is average at best. St Louis, for some reason, gets all of this hype about defense. Edmonds is overrated (no range). Pujols is not great. Eckstein's arm is about as good as Lance Johnson's was. So, does that make Suppan a bad pick up? I don't think so. We need ground ball pitchers, everybody does with the pinball machines they call stadiums now. Go get him Dougie!!
  8. Suppan is a soft tosser. His arm isnt gonna fall off like alot of pitchers that get big money. Low injury risk. Me likey.
  9. Does anyone think that with Boston trading for a reliever, they might be stockpiling so they can give one for Jenks? Just an idea. Jenks to Boston for Donnelly or another reliever?
  10. I'd take Suppan over Meche and Lilly. In a heartbeat.
  11. If you have a low WHIP, why do K's matter? If nobody's on base, who cares how a guy makes an out? The difference between a 1.3 WHIP and a 1.4 WHIP is 20 baserunners over 200 innings, or one baserunner over 10 innings. Numbers like WHIP don't mean a thing if an ERA is low. A high WHIP and a low ERA means that a guy knows how to pitch out of jams. Nothing wrong with that.
  12. I don't understand how ERA is an overrated stat. I would think earned runs per nine innings would mean something. The people that didn't want Lieber said that his ERA was too high. My arguement was that his WHIP was low. But that didn't seem to matter. Then people say that Suppan's ERA is misleading. Did anybody see him pitch in the second half or playoffs? That's the guy I want to see here next September. He dominated the Mets in the NLCS.
  13. I like Suppan. His ERA was under 2 in the second half last year, so he won't have a problem with stamina. Sheets hasn't been healthy for two years. Cappy tires in September and nobody is real high on Vargas around here. None of the young guys (Villy, ZJ, Gallardo) have pitched over 180 innings. We need an innings eater. If things work right, we could get 200+ innings out of four pitchers. Our bullpen could be fresh down the stretch. Maybe we won't have to hire garbage men to pitch this year, because our starters can get into the seventh.
  14. Obviously, nobody is as impressed with Gonzalez as I am. Not too many dominant lefty relievers out there. And he is definately one.
  15. Oakland stands out to me. They have been rumored in deals all over the place. Harden, Haren, or Blanton for the right price. I, personally feel that a deal could be struck. Jenkins, TGJ, for Dan Haren, who is arby eligible- numbers better than DD at a lesser price for at least a couple of years. To get either of the other two, the price may be too high. Both are cheap and young, and we've have to give up young pitching to get either, IMO. I'd give up ZJ in either deal. Either Blanton or Harden are young enough that, if they stay healthy, could be here as long as ZJ would be.
  16. He's rumored to be going to either of these two clubs. What will it take for us to get him? He would be a great LHRP for this year and a possible closer for the future. Heck, maybe even a closer this year. We could offer an outfielder and a reliever, knowing that we'd be getting a reliever of our own. Jenks and Sarfate for Gonzalez? That would be an outstanding pen.
  17. Mulder gets way more cash than 6mil/per. He's light years ahead of Lilly. And Lilly got 10 per. 2yr/22 mil is my prediction
  18. ESPN's rumor central says Marquis wants 10 mil per season!! Go get him Cubbies!!! Actually, if I want to throw 7 million at a pitcher, I try to resign Ohka. He is pretty solid.
  19. How about Jenks for Hennesey? I like that better than Benitez. Is Jenks old enough to play in San Fran? Thought I heard Rick Reuschel was close to signing with them.
  20. Are you kidding? The guys was a bulldog for the Cubbies. Truly a pitcher that was fun to watch. Hopefully, he can get some of that back.
  21. I don't get how anybody thinks we can get more. Everybody on these boards were convinced that both of these guys hurt our team in the second half last year. I personally winced every time either of them played. Especially Turnbow. We get a servicable starter for guys that should be on the scrap heap. Talk about "homers".
  22. There is no way that is the whole trade. LaRoche was 32/90 last year. He and Hudson for 2 relievers? Schurholz is way smarter than that.
  23. 52 doubles last year. He can still hit. Not like he could, but he still had alot of XBH last year. Maybe his shoulder has healed and he can handle left field. I dunno.
  24. I think this trade is fine. We need to jettison Turnbow. He got alot of chances to turn himself around and couldn't. Just seemed like he pouted when he lost the closer spot. People around here wanted Mench released if we couldn't get something for him. So we package excess parts for another arm? Fine. Lieber's whip was 1.31. Pretty impressive. He walked 24 last year. I think the park in Philly had alot to do with the ERA last year. He'll be decent for us next year.
  25. Since everybody is a stat guy around here, why has nobody mentioned that Lieber's WHIP was only 1.31 last year? Maybe he just gave up big innings or something, but 1.31 is more than decent. I think Mench and Turnbow can get that done.
