  1. I suppose but it's only a one year deal. The club option for the next season is very appealing as well.
  2. Positives: Depth (who will be AAA that can come up if there are injuries?), Salary (should be over a million saved), and Control (one more season). The happiest guy should be Broxton as his odds of making the team went up tremendously. Now watch Stearns do something like signing Pollock.
  3. Agreed. I thought there would be a lot of spending happening on the Southside this offseason.
  4. Which board? Not seeing much yet. Northsidebaseball. The Cubs really thought they were bringing in Harper.
  5. Reading the Cubs board is pure gold right now...
  6. He plays with a toughness that is needed at times.
  7. We just signed a guy to a that was a regular major leaguer last year to a split contract for relatively little money. Lowrie and Gonzalez, among others, are still available as free agents. There are also trade possibilities as well. It is December 21st. No reason to worry at all yet. We are not done adding yet.
  8. It is odd that he hit much better at Petco than away. I hope this is a Kratz-like backup plan for 2019.
  9. They picked him up mainly because of injury so he fulfilled what they were looking for.
  10. It might possibly be due to payroll demands after this season. There will be a lot of guys that will be getting significant raises and that will need to be paid for.
  11. I am guessing Stearns saw the offers that would be needed for guys like this and decided the trade market looked better.
  12. Poor Mike Trout, what a poorly run organization.
  13. Who is this Claudino I keep seeing reference to? [sarcasm]I really wish posters would proof read their posts around here.[/sarcasm] Got me there! I guess when you see it written incorrectly so often it almost becomes true. I can still add though so I have that going for me.
  14. I get that, maybe up to 100. But, if you have a guy who can cover at least half the games fairly well do you neeeed to spend a ton to cover the other half. Someone smarter than me can maybe find a more cost efficient lefty hitter (alo what Vogt was when we got him) to split with him who can RH pitching ok. Basically do what they're doing with Kratz but someone who can hit above pitcher level I just really do not want to punt on offensive production from the catching position this year. I think we are sticking with Arcia at shortstop which makes sense but it is hard to say what we will get from him at the plate. Having the 7,8, and 9 spots in the lineup being possible black holes is concerning for a contending team.
  15. Lyles was likely a payroll casualty. Stearns has pinched pennies so far this off-season which has made me believe we do not have as much payroll flexibility as some have mentioned. (Schoop, Lyles, trading for Claudino)
  16. I think you're right. It is my recollection that he appeared to wear down some when played heavily for long stretches. I like Stearn's strategy of having quality depth and having Pina as a backup/50% starter would mesh well with that.
  17. Ignoring all your other ridiculous rudeness, the Cubs contract is one to compare to. You can make an argument the Brewers shouldn't go down that road financially (you did, and I don't totally disagree) but the Cubs contract is exactly the comparison that I'd bet Lowrie and his agent are looking at and trying to get. Zobrist has more positional flexibility than Lowrie. Lowrie only had 14 appearances last season that were not at 2nd base (SS). Meanwhile, Zobrist had appearances in 2015 before he was a free agent at the following positions: 2B, 3B, RF and LF. Also, there are a ton of 2B options available in free agency and via trade. (especially when compared to Zobrist's free agency) While there are many big payroll teams that would take Lowrie, there are not many that need him.
  18. I mentioned earlier that the Rangers were 27th in MLB when it comes to shifting (https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/visuals/team-positioning). It would appear that the Brewers were targeting the Rangers as a trade partner and that might partly be because of shifting. (Mike Minor almost trade) Does anything else think we might try to pick another pitcher up from one of the teams at the bottom part of this list?
  19. I think the draft pick attached to signing Grandal will lower the market to where we will be a player for him. If we can sign him and Lowrie, I really like our lineup moving forward. I hate to lose the draft pick but we need to make a move for a World Series in 2019.
  20. Dude made a typo. He admitted it. And I think it was pretty obvious it was a typo even from the start - especially if you add up the money totals - which you did. Then raking him because because his 'something like $40M' actually adds up to $41M? I don't get it. Not really obvious with possible deferrals that the Brewers like to do on big free agent contracts. Then he used a contract the Cubs gave out and tried to relate that to the Brewers which is just an awful comparison. Could I have been a little more courteous; especially on the 40 million? Perhaps. Could posters take two seconds to check their posts before hitting submit? Yep.
  21. Paying Jed Lowrie that much would be an anchor for the Brewers in the years moving forward. Also, when you are deferring that 9 million that is unaccounted for? Sorry, it was a typo. It was roughly 3 year - $40M. And yes, as much as of an anchor as Zobrist has been for the Cubs over the years. That typo was 10 million dollars which would make a pretty big difference don't you think?? Not to mention your math didn't even add up to 40 million, sigh. Also, the payroll for the Cubs is much larger so they can afford to make some pricey mistakes. I would go for 2 years, 25 million max on Lowrie. It would be really interesting to know when the Brewers feel like Hiura will be ready. There is a chance he might be in the minors all of 2019 and that is the plan. Who knows?
  22. Incumbent 1B Ryan Healy had a 688 ops last year. They are shopping EE so basically they be continuing to to lower the price of their 1B/DH spot with every deal made. Thames salary is reasonable for his (healthy) production and allows SEA to opt out after this year. That team is looking past the 2019 season, they are rebuilding so what Healy does with them isn't too important.
  23. Paying Jed Lowrie that much would be an anchor for the Brewers in the years moving forward. Also, when you are deferring that 9 million that is unaccounted for?
  24. Wrong sport/team, the Bucks GM is Jon Horst....
  25. Seattle is cutting payroll. Give me the reasoning why they would take on Thames? If the argument is to trade him later, that is a terrible one.
