  1. He doesn't play as deep as Wes Helms did, right? Soft grounders turning into infield hits is unfortunate, but with the amount of shifting the Brewers do, I think it's to be expected to have some more of that. Maybe he's not as good at charging as other 3B, but it doesn't really seem to me that he plays deeper than any one else.
  2. Just because Arcia hits like a pitcher doesn't mean the brewers have a pitcher batting 8th!
  3. Considering the ball went off the end of his glove, that diving play from Schwarber was a lot closer than folks are making it out to be, unless there was another one I forgot about.
  4. I don't disagree with a managers right to swap pitchers between positions, but the pitchers should get no more than 1-2 warmup pitches if they've already pitched once in the inning (just enough to make sure they remember how to throw it in the general vicinity of the plate instead of beaning people on the first pitch).
  5. I could be wrong, with how our memories can trick us, but I seem to recall that Arcia almost completely eliminated his leg kick before going on his hot streak last year. Then fast forward through the winter he came in with a leg kick and posture in the box that was even worse than it ever was before he adjusted last year. So, I can understand how people get a feeling that he may be ignoring his coaching, to some extent. If not for injuries and futility from backup middle infield so far this year, he would be down in AAA, I'm sure, since they already sent him down once.
  6. Logan has had 14 appearances and ~ half of them have been what I'd call successful from a quick review of the game logs. I try to avoid rushing to judgement on relief pitchers especially, but I think he needs to have 4-5 good outings in the next 6, or be one of the candidates for swapping out for fresh arm, even if it means DFA.
  7. Other than starting out slow, Davies has been a solid pitcher for the Brewers the entire time he's been here. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that his longer stretch of not being in sync this year has been due to the injury. That said, definitely don't want to see him rush back. Take the time needed to make sure he's at 100%.
  8. Shaw has clearly not had great results this year in the 64 PA he's had against lefties thus far, but he hasn't looked overmatched with tons of bad swings in most of the lefty ABs I've seen, so with there being less quality options to replace him at 3B, I wouldn't be shutting him down against lefties other than just making sure if you give him a rest day, it's against a lefty.
  9. Although Mendoza line of course refers to a batting average of .200, I think in terms of OPS we can peg the "whatever you want to call it" line at around .600, and Villar had slumped close to that for awhile.
  10. well, he arguably can't be worse than bandy has been this year, but I'm also in the camp that would probably have preferred giving Bethancourt a shot over this. Either way, backup catcher probably isn't going to "move the needle" much on this team.
  11. he actually has been hitting more line drives / driving the ball a little bit more recently (eye test). Also, even last year he saw a lot of pitches. For him, seeing a lot of pitches isn't necessarily an indicator of whether he's going good or not to a great extent, in my opinion.
  12. I thought see ball, hit ball was the approach prescribed by all of the greatest of hitters.
  13. Brian Anderson always seemed to me like he was acting like a play by play man for the Brewers.
  14. Certainly, plate discipline, pitch recognition, eye for the strike zone are all things that can and should be developed by every player, but it is just a fact of life that some people are going to be better at it than others no matter how much effort they put into it. You can have all the natural physical talent in the world in terms of strength/quickness/bat speed, etc, but that is still limited by your talent in visual processing or whatever you want to call the stuff that has to happen in your brain to recognize the pitch etc. Arcia is young enough yet that he still has a good chance to improve significantly in that regards, but Perez is probably what he is in terms of plate discipline even if he were to put more effort (out of our view what he's doing in that regards).
  15. I think there are some rules about announced starting pitchers and changing them at the last minute barring injury aren't there? Additionally, if you do change your SP at the last minute, the opposing team could also change their lineup last minute.
  16. Maldonado definitely has a more going for him defensively, so I'm ok with people dialing that trade up as a loss. But it's certainly not a big one, nor would it solve our offensive woes to have skipped it.
  17. That's a really good write-up.
  18. Of all the Cardinal things to get upset for, hitters taking forever to get in the box is probably the most legit.
  19. So it's good news in terms of his health, but not good news for having a chance to be back at or before the ASG. I can live with that.
  20. Does anyone else find it weird that Cain is using a bat with a big ole notch knocked out of the cup at the end? Up til this last AB i was thinking maybe he should get a new bat.
  21. After starting out hot going 2/2 over the first 7 weeks of the season, Choi has slumped in his last AB, going 0/1.
  22. Prince's swing was never pretty. It was monstrous. Monstrously awesome!
  23. Shocking stat. Woodruff has 2 wins and 0 losses.
  24. Just for the record, I think a criticism of someone saying "he said", or "Break-even pitch" or any other little idiosyncrasy that various broadcasters have is perfectly valid. But, at the same time pick whoever the best broadcaster in the business is in your opinion, and they will end up having a pet phrase or weird bit that turns some people off. To turn around and say xyz person is terrible or the worst ever is just silly exaggeration nearly every time.
  25. She's a sideline reporter. I'm not sure how or why people would read into whether she's "being real" or not.
