  1. Manny didn't look surprised at Prince's behavior. BTW, my favorite quote of this thread: "I see Prince is a chicken. Waits until Branyan is not in the dugout to shove a teammate."
  2. Fielder, Sheets, Hart, Weeks (yeah, I said it.), Branyan (yeah, I said it.). The only one whose name I have on an article of clothing is Branyan, oddly enough.
  3. How awesome would it be if Yo could return and be in the end at the game with it all on the line against the Cubs to end the season against ... Reed Johnson, who's idiotic head first slid injured Yo's knee in the first place. As a Miller Park crowd filled with nothing but Brewer fans gets to its feet, Yo strikes out Johnson sending the Brewers to their first division title in 26 years and eliminates the Cubs from the playoffs. I would pee my pants for that to happen.

  6. The big picture isn't bad, but the series has been a HUGE disappointment. I want to cry, but I have no tears left.
  7. Currently googling "voodoo curse" with the intent of placing one on Soriano and/or Marmol and/or Zambrano.
  8. It doesn't so much matter whether the Brewers can match. I think the bottom line is that we have an easier schedule for the remainder of the season. This brings me joy.
  9. I've been hoping for a Brewers-Rays world series, myself, because then the Brewers' presence might not be treated as a novelty by Fox/ESPN. (Then again, maybe the whole thing would be treated as a novelty. They might not know what the heck to talk about.) And I am REALLY hoping the Yankees don't make the playoffs, so I won't have to hear about "one more game at Yankee Stadium" or how "this might be the last game at Yankee Stadium" for half the fricking series. Sometimes I think I'd be happier watching these things with the TV muted.
  10. This makes so upset it's kind of embarrassing. I don't think it's an unfair deal or anything, but I was in such a good mood, about to go see C.C. pitch tonight, and this completely deflates me.
  11. Count me in with those who think that the predictability would give such a player a surprising amount of value. I had a sort of similar discussion with my roommate not long ago -- we were talking about whether we'd trade Prince Fielder for a guy who walked in every PA. I was arguing for the latter, obviously.
  12. I'll be there Friday and Saturday. Ping @joshjs on Twitter and we'll have a beer.
  13. I think it's highly unlikely there's a #2 or #3 starter to be had for a reasonable price. And if it's going to happen, I see it happening at the trade deadline, and not any time soon. There's a lot of baseball to be played in the meantime. For the moment, I'd say the best (realistic) option is to play the hand they're dealt and hope Parra and/or Villanueva and/or Bush can step up. And that's kind of why I'm in such a bad mood right now. >:|
  14. While I think you can make a strong case for sending Parra or Villanueva to AAA instead of Bush (especially Parra, who I assume has a cap on his IP), I really feel that getting rid of Turnbow as he's scuffling for a month would not be the right move. I understand why everyone's calling for Turnbow's head, but I think the fact of the matter is that *nobody* in that bullpen is dependable. They have a handful of guys who *could* be good this year. Half of them (Turnbow, Gagne, Riske) have struggled so far, and even the ones who aren't (Mota, Torres) were pretty awful just last year. (I, for one, will be rooting for each and every one of them, every time out. Especially Turnbow)
  15. I might have taken Peavy over Santana moving forward, if Santana hadn't moved to a team in the National League with a pitcher-friendly ballpark.
  16. I'd bet that he's either unaware of the hop or does it superstitiously. However, I also think he's probably cocky. (You would be too if you were a professional baseball player.)
  17. I've been worried about this, too. I find myself caring more about whether the opposing starter is right- or left-handed than about how good that starter is in general. Notice how Fielder walked in all his AB's today? I expect to see a lot of that, whether he has "protection" or not.
  18. Johan Santana is a hall-of-fame pitcher. Josh Beckett will be lucky to be a Red-Sox-hall-of-fame pitcher. That is all.
  19. Most-loved ex-Brewer: Yount Most-loved ex-Brewer still playing: Geoff Jenkins (whom it's much easier to love when he's not on your team) Most-hated ex-Brewer: Gary Sheffield (who is also still playing, so there's no need for a distinction between current and all-time players) I think this is an easy one.
  20. I like the Diamondbacks. I somewhat dislike the Angels. I have mixed feelings about the Red Sox. I like the makeup of the team, but I'm really sick of a lot of the fans. I think the Yankees may be turning a corner, and am open to rooting for them this year. I loathe the Cubs. That is all.
  21. Gabe Gross, PH 1st game 7th inning off zamby That, creepily, was my first thought as well.
  22. Over the past couple of years, due to reading crap like this time and again, I've come to the conclusion that many sportswriters are just plain lazy. Look at this quote from the CBS story: Vegetarian Prince Fielder promises to recycle every opponent in Brewers' path this season, and Ryan Braun in left field looked a whole lot better this spring than Ryan Braun at third base did last season. These Brewers will slug. Question is, can they pitch and catch enough to fulfill the promise that led to franchise-record attendance last summer? How much thought do you think went into that? The author cherry-picks a few of the more popular memes about the Brewers -- Fielder's a veggie, Braun's moving to left -- and voila: That's his assessment of the team. His assessment of the Reds is essentially "they have some young guys who are supposed to be pretty good." I guess my point is that most of these guys aren't any more qualified to predict any facet of baseball than most of the regular posters on this site. Their job is to analyze baseball, but they seem to think it's to bust out however many words their editor assigns them and squeeze in a few trite pop culture jokes. You people have better jokes than them, too.
