  1. Yep. Because they did what they needed to do to contain the virus and save lives. I'd imagine their populace will deal with the short-term recession as a trade off for the quick bounce-back they're expected to experience relative to the rest of the world: But economists say New Zealand will bounce back faster, while other nations are still struggling to contain the coronavirus. https://www.reuters.com/article/newzealand-economy-gdp/new-zealand-economy-in-deepest-recession-as-second-quarter-gdp-shrinks-idUSKBN26804K .... because Japan tested the people most likely to be exposed based on their robust contact tracing protocols. Just curious.... you've been one of the biggest down-players and naysayers here on the board since the start of this, despite identifying yourself as 'having a medical background.' At what point do you look at the situation that is unfolding and state that this is an absolute disaster, and the we are, in fact, worse off than other countries who have found a way to handle this better? Based on nearly everyone else I know 'in the medical industry' right now, they're overwhelmed and fed-up. Why have you continued to stick with your 'down-play' stance?
  2. Gyorko made $4.5 million last year and had a .838 OPS. It is very plausible they could find a corner guy that contributes for that money.
  3. This is an 'us' problem, unfortunately. The countries like Japan and New Zealand that have basically squashed the virus all had robust, dynamic contract tracing protocols.
  4. I really don't understand how there can continue to be a lack of understanding that this has far, far less about people going out and putting themselves at risk by choosing to go to bars as it does the fact that they go to those bars and then go to work, go to church, etc. and literally spread the virus to people who aren't choosing to engage in that risky behavior. That is literally nothing like someone choosing to drink themselves to death or over eating. It's astounding that 7+ months into this thing, there are still so many people who don't get that.
  5. Fun. Tell me a proposal where you'd part with Hiura. Understand improves hit swing contact% his numbers will explode on offense. I dont see filling multiple holes unless referring to future additions through Milb years away prospects. An immediate fill would be a 1v1 move. Gavin Lux, Nolan Jones. And Im not sure beyond that. Hiura for Larnach & Kirilloff would be exactly what I have in mind.
  6. Interesting and related, though Elgton Jenkins gave up his first career(!) sack yesterday, he had his best grade as a run blocker of the season...
  7. The Brewers have shifted somewhat significantly away from the defensive aptitude that served them/the staff so well in the 2018 run. Trading Hiura would be in-line with trying to improve defensively while hopefully filling multiple holes.
  8. This is accurate. We've had a meager 5 losses in his time here, and all but one were games like yesterday where they were basically run out of the building. Interestingly, all four of those were also on the road.
  9. Just to clarify, I obviously agree that they started very strong results-wise. By 'flat', I was more referring to energy/excitement levels, emotion. Obviously, they got down in a deflating way. But they never had, even from the start IMO, the feel of a team that was up for the game. Regarding Adams/the 2nd INT, my point is that it's a low percentage pass on a third down to a receiver that was double-covered. There's a better read there, somewhere. I haven't watched a tape of the whole play to look at the other options, but that's forcing a ball to a guy that can't be the best choice there.
  10. We had our first familial close-call over the weekend. On Friday, my wife found out that her closest-in-proximity co-worker's daughter tested positive on Thursday. Fortunately, my wife wears her mask religiously and so does the co-worker. Other than my son having cold-like symptoms this weekend/today, no other issues thus far on our end. The really scary thing, though, is that my in-laws downsized to a retirement condo recently, and last week I was over to help lug some of the heavy stuff. I'm very glad I wore a mask despite how annoying it was while moving, but that goes to show how quickly/unexpectedly we could have passed that to more at-risk family members....
  11. It is somewhat outrageous that they didn't sack Brady once with the personnel they have on defense and Brady's immobility.
  12. Problem is, almost no one is pushing back on playing soccer at the park, etc.. It's the other stuff that's increasingly the problem.
  13. Just to be clear, though, even though this is 'where you are at', it doesn't mean that it's the correct/socially responsible place to be. Let's call a spade a spade- people are indeed sick of the restrictions, and a lot are making choices that are directly causing the spike we're seeing right now.
  14. It seems like the Packers historically have struggled to beat the 'teams they're supposed to beat', especially after a deflating loss like this last one. I think beating Houston and looking competent while doing so shows that under MLF, this team will at least take care of business as they're expected to. But yeah, sooner or later you need to beat a good defensive team on the road.
  15. As much as I just want to ignore football altogether in the few days after a loss, I figure it worthy to put together some thoughts anyway: 1)Obviously, they're not going to win all 16 regular season games, but that doesn't make an ugly loss like that any less painful. I do believe that you can learn more about yourselves as a team from a loss than you can from a win, so hopefully they are able to learn and fix. But wow, do their losses seem horrendous on the rare occasions that they've happened. 2)I think it's disappointing that yet again in the second season under MLF, the Packers came out ultra-flat out of a bye. I said two weeks ago that the bye came at a good time for the team from an injury standpoint, but I do think that a team on a roll like they were would have had more benefit from a later bye. Still, you have to wonder about why they lay an egg like that. 3)Related, I appreciate hearing 'bad week of practice' and such, but still, WTH? First concerns about 'behavior on the west coast trips' last year, now ugly practices out of the bye. A little concerning. Once is an anomaly, twice is the start of a trend. 4)A lot has been noted about the team's success with Adams off the field. I won't in any way advocate that the team is better off without one of the best receivers in the league, but I do think our QB's play is better overall without him. At least one of the INTs yesterday was due to forcing the ball into Davante when the window just wasn't there, and the pick six was even worse- forcing the ball into a window that wasn't there on a route destined to result in a pick six if the ball doesn't get to the receiver. He has to be better at taking what's there, whether the receiver has Adams on the back of his jersey or otherwise. 5)I don't think the Buccaneers are anything close to favorites in the NFC, but I'm confident this won't look like an ugly loss to a bad team at the end of the year. The defense is very good, and likely the best we've played thus far by a large margin, and the offense seems to be starting to click. No reason to think they won't be a playoff team come January. 6)Why does it feel like the team has problems in a particular building? Raymond James has been an ugly place for the Packers to play, seemingly back to the days of Sherman/Favre. It's like the Metrodome through most of Favre's career. It just seems like we lay an egg here, regardless of how good the level of competition is. 7)All of the points about the team's response to adversity are very fair, IMO. It seems like the blueprint for beating us is to A) have a defense good enough to knock us out of our desired offensive gameplan, and B)get us down big, as we can't seem to come back from a significant deficit anymore. TB certainly did a good job on both of those points. Jones was a complete non-factor, which is saying something. They have to figure out how to adjust when the offensive game plan gets disrupted like that. 8)The annoying thing is that it wasn't really TB that put us out of our game plan, it was two terrible turnovers. 10-0 lead with the ball. You really have to wonder how much differently this game looks if we just control the ball. 9)Beyond all of that, not much good to point to. I guess Krys Barnes seemed to be all over the field defensively. Beyond that and that it sounds like Bakh and Tonyan both avoided any kind of serious injury, there wasn't anything else I can point to as a positive from this game.
  16. Hey, I wasn’t the one bumping draft threads after 5 games. If you won’t want to evaluate a player based on 5 bad games, why bump a thread with the purpose of evaluating a player based on 5 games?
  17. Compared to GB's in last 20years it's pretty easy to look incredible. Outmatched. There's not enough time for Rodgers and a poor WR core. But you know, Love was a great pick in round 1. Rodgers would have been dumped 3 times now if Jones hadn't made spectacular blocks. Much better to take Queen, who has rated out poorer than Summers, right?
  18. Hot take, we force the ball to Adam’s too much when he’s available.
  19. Aaron’s last pick 6? I seriously can’t remember a recent one.
  20. That’s one of the worst throws Aaron has made in years.
  21. No NFL coach would have gone for both, but statistically, you’d argue that TB should have gone for both of their 4th downs.....
  22. After one quarter, the Bucs are on pace to score zero points. Yeah, the defense has done very good work thus far.
  23. That’s a nonsense call. There is no way in the world Rodgers gave himself up as he was literally diving for the end zone.
  24. Fantastic tackle by Jackson there.
