  1. A little surprised to see so many strong reactions. At best, he's a solid 3/4. At worst, it's a one-year deal and he's Chacin-ed by the break and they're not out much since it's a one-year deal. More likely, he's a decent 4 to fill out the back of the rotation at a very reasonable cost.
  2. Jeff McNeil and Max Muncy were Rule 5 eligible in 2017. In the two seasons since then McNeil has put up a 142 OPS+ with defensive positional flexibility. Also, if you are holding past prospect pedigree against players, its worth acknowledging Hader was considered the third or fourth piece to a trade that brought in 4 prospects, and he had already been traded once before at that point as the throw-in piece on another deal. Players evolve and improve, I wouldn’t hold their development path from their pre-MLB days against them years later.. Agree completely with this post. Plenty of players were meh prospects that became legit MLB players.
  3. That's.... odd. Maybe they want Urias in AAA to start?
  4. Exactly. Conference champs from the power 5 + 3 at larges. Everyone who potentially has a claim is included.
  5. I agree with this, but it won't live up to its full potential until they have 8 team in.
  6. Spot 26 is almost certainly a pitcher for every team in baseball. Broxton is a great spot 30 or so guy. Minor league depth. It'll be interesting to see if your opinion becomes fact on opening day for every team in baseball, especially with the lack of a 5th starter needed by most teams until much later in the month.
  7. Exactly the type of player spot 26 is ideal for, IMO. Defensive first guy, fantastic PR. Competent with a bat either early in the game or as your 3-4 PH.
  8. Sure glad I held off on buying my Pinstripe Bowl tickets after the Illinois game!
  9. This is the scenario I've been hoping for all along. Baylor beats OK in a squeeker, and UW beats OSU, and I think there's a legit discussion. Clemson loses, and I think things get REALLY intreresting, because I don't think they're a lock in that situation at all. Obviously, this is all predicated on the very unlikely outcome of Wisconsin winning tonight.
  10. The end rarely justifies the means when it comes to those huge contracts. I'm not adverse to risk, but signing a huge name pitcher to a $100+ million deal have very low odds of working out value-wise. That's what's simple. Because of age?? Well, how many guys have we seen through the years pitch just fine later into their late 30's and early 40's?? Going back a ways..Nolan Ryan, would you have taken him in his later years?? How about Randy Johnson?? Or Justin Verlander, or Adam Wainright?? i could go on, but that's just some examples of guys that were just as effective in their later years. Now go through and name all the ones that weren't.
  11. I think the Marisnick deal makes it more likely they keep Davis. Conforto will be in RF everyday, Davis/Marisnick/Nimmo will rotate in the other two spots. Certainly seems like Smith is incredibly redundant and blocked on the Mets roster. He's such a logical target for Milwaukee.
  12. This is a very good take that I agree with completely. I'd also add that it is very likely the Brewers think they can help improve his defense.
  13. I think a lot of us are just skeptical that the poor little Brewers sob story and their frugal operations over the years are also an easy way to keep making more and more money while saying "aw shucks, we sure tried". You can be skeptical, but it doesn't mean that you're definitely right....
  14. Viewing your posting history, I’m not sure you’re not trolling us.
  15. I'm unable to look right now, but I thought that Smith's defensive rankings were skewed because they stupidly played him in the OF, but that his 1B numbers were actually pretty good?
  16. Yes, they did. But I think it's important to differentiate when it doesn't happen which it didn't in this case. I thought his explanation was a good one, though, when he pointed out that if Zillow puts a $500,000 estimate on a house that sells for $300,000, they can't insist the house is worth $500,000. They have to adjust their estimates based on the market. I'm pretty sure he admitted they were off on that one, but like any other market, it was never designed to be perfect. It fluctuates based on many factors, one of course, being real life trade results. They have to constantly re-evaluate and adjust. That goes for any value based estimate around. The adjustment wasn't made to save face and try to make it look more even. It was made because they had to adjust values based on what the real life market told them those players were worth. The Zillow analogy doesn't acknowledge the possiblility that the homeowner doesn't properly know the value of what they actually had relative to the market, and made a poor decision to sell the asset for less than it's actual worth as a result. That's what many people think the Padres did. Adjusting the value down and saying 'we had it wrong' doesn't keep your neighbor from selling his house for the $500,000 that it was actually worth...
  17. Yes, I think he nears or exceeds 30 HR's in Milwaukee. I'd be real interested in someone posting his spray chart over Miller Park like we did with Yelich.
  18. So by my count, they've addressed catcher for the next few years at a level not likely to be much less than last year, for a much more reasonable cost. Defensively, there's likely some decrease. Upgrade offensively at SS with the potential for that position to be locked up for the next 5 years at a low cost. Seems pretty good to me so far! Lots more to come.
  19. Interestingly, Narvaez graded out much better when he was with the White Sox, so that's very unusual.
  20. Well, there was a lot of discussion about how they'd replace Grandall's bat last night, and here you go. This is about as good an offensive acquisition as you can get. I wonder if they're hopeful that Pina can teach him/help him improve with framing and the like? Obviously, the 'cost' will be interesting, but financially this is a much better use of resources over the next three years.....
  21. Ok, be honest here... this response implies that you haven't actually looked up Smith or anything about him. He out OPS'd both Moustakas and Grandall last year, as a 24 year old. If you're not at least going to take the time to at least look into players before you dismiss them as unworthy acquisitions, that's not a good look. You're apparently enamored with names, and if they don't get names, you're angry and frustrated. As I said before, I think you're likely in for an offseason of anger and frustration if that's your mentality. The Brewers are doing what they feel they need to do to win, and they're likely 1000x more likely to get it right.
  22. viewtopic.php?f=63&t=39276 ICYMI. Point being, I'm certain they're working on stuff. Like what?? Smart moves that make them better, like the one in my link. You're enamored with names. I'd suggest being more focused on talent. Dom Smith is a great example. He's a potential superstar in Milwaukee with his skill set. David Stearns has a fantastic track record, and doesn't panic like people on message boards and Twitter do. But if you're enamored with names and freak out every time one name comes off the board, it may be a long offseason for you. Back to back playoff appearances, by my count.
  23. The field turf they have now is tons better than the old 'carpet' stuff.
  24. viewtopic.php?f=63&t=39276 ICYMI. Point being, I'm certain they're working on stuff.
