  1. This. Having slept on it, I'm convinced that this trade means one of two things: that Shaw's defense as they had him try 2B looked much better than any of us know/expect, or that they have zero intention of him playing there. I can't envision them spending an offseason improving defense and acquiring a type of player that improved us there only to throw that notion out the window this summer. For those thinking this means Shaw gets traded, why not Moustakas? It doesn't happen often in baseball, but what if they intended to move Phillips and Lopez, thought this was the best return they could get, but have had conversations with the Braves or whomever to flip him for a MLB-ready asset that they like more than what we gave up? Maybe not likely, but it seems at least plausible.
  2. I've already gotten a good enough laugh at their expense for expecting Hamels to stabilize their rotation.
  3. His range can’t be much worse than Neil Walker’s was last year, right?
  4. It does feel like there’s another deal coming to make this work... but I guess I thought that with Santana in the offseason too.
  5. Above average, but not as good as Shaw this year.
  6. I see an option, but it may be a mutual option.
  7. Edit: Found it. Going to be interesting to see if this is legit, as BrewCrewCentral reported exactly this two hours ago.
  8. It's an interesting and fair theory. Regardless, he could be useful for us an is under control during his prime years. It all depends on cost, IMO.
  9. Might as well move the whole Gausman discussion over here as well: His FIP is actually HIGHER than his ERA, though. Between than and park factor adjustments, he just looks like a guy to me.

  11. Juuuuuust a bit outside!
  12. I honestly think so (ok, maybe 3 are necessary). A guy like Dozier at 2B, an upgrade at catcher, and a solid-but-unspectacular starter might get us there. Realmuto/Dozier/Stroman or Gibson might do it. Obviously, you'll have to give to get, which is the heart of the debate. I don't think there's a Sabathia-type out there, but I'm not sure that's the level of addition they even need.
  13. Apparently. Moving the discussion at this point.
  14. Stroman has been bad this year, but is exactly the type of pitcher the Brewers should be looking into right now. If there's a chance to buy low-ish on him, you get 3 years of control in his peak seasons. He's come back strong (5/6 starts since coming off the DL he's allowed 3 or less runs) since his injury, and I think he's a guy that can legitimately be a TOR/solid 2.
  15. I agree, actually. But I think that those that don't want Happ feel that way because of the potential cost. As with any acquisition, it all depends on what we have to give up. Would I be thrilled sending a 20-30 organizational guy for him? Yep, and he'd help. Do I want to send a guy like Ray? Absolutely not. It all depends, and we won't know what it'll take until either Milwaukee or someone else does make the deal.
  16. His secondary numbers show that he's been hurt by the team around him this year, but if you start to look at park factor adjustments and such, you have to start to wonder if there's not some age starting to show this year. There are a LOT of warts associated with most of the rental options out there. The cost may be more expensive, but non-rental pitchers might still be better value because many of them are significantly better than the rental types.
  17. The Padres' leadership has at least seemingly held the idea that they're smarter than the rest of the league and do weird things like that to show it. The thing is, they're not.
  18. I'll third this part of splitter's post, but I'll say that if you can get Archer and still have all of Hiura, Burnes, and Peralta as well, I make that deal and don't feel too terribly bad about it. There are plenty of reasons to be concerned about Archer, but I believe that he probably makes the Brewers better. If you can get him without giving up the top level of prospects, you probably feel ok if his numbers continue to improve.
  19. The amount of rope that Stearns has, I'm not sure that much rope exists... This! Yep. Stearns will choose to leave to go elsewhere if he leaves Milwaukee someday. He won't be fired, IMO.
  20. Have they really? I believe we're nearly last in MLB in quality starts, and other than Guerra and Chacin, we really don't have anyone pitching to expectations. 2/5ths of a quality rotation is not good. And the continued inability to go deep into games is going to destroy the bullpen. We saw the effects of that before the break, and it sure looks like we're about to have two consecutive short starts already that will gas the pen right out of the break. This is a major, major problem.
  21. Anyone REALLY believe that our rotation isn't as big of a problem as the bottom of our lineup, or possibly more? I think we've done a lot on smoke-and-mirrors there, and it's finally coming back to haunt us.
  22. What a terrible start. Anderson at 35 pitches and counting... going to be lucky to get 5 out of him today.
  23. Problem is, he's been really bad defensively this year.... as a 2B. For all the (potentially fair) concerns about Machado's defense when discussing him as a possible acquisition, Cabrera's defense at short could be just as bad, with less of a bat.
  24. I think that's over the top. I agree that he's apologized and that should be what is expected of him at this point, and that will likely be the end of it. But, yes, many people did stupid stuff when they were kids, and most of that was before social media. But I certainly knew by age 17 that some words and a way of thinking were unacceptable and inappropriate, and I think it's still ok for those that are sad/unhappy that Josh didn't. Lumping 'any dumb thing we did as kids' into one category really isn't reasonable. Some stuff is worse. But yes, time to move on.
  25. Ted Thompson won a championship too, and I don’t think anyone would accuse him of being aggressive...
