  1. I wasn't a Gard believer, but what has happened to this team is remarkable. They probably moved themselves solidly into the Tourney last night, though there are still ways to screw it up by losing to Minnesota or Illinois.
  2. I think the best way to read this is that they're not getting fair value offers due to his recent back flare-up and think there may be more of a market for him in November/December. You don't trade Gomez and Fiers and then say you're keeping Lind to play him in 2016 when you've clearly punted on 2016 already....
  3. I'm expecting one more deal today... probably Cotts, maybe Krod. Awfully quiet on Lind since the Cards rumors from a few days ago, and virtually nothing on Segura, so 'major' deals are probably done.
  4. I'd imagine Doug is crossing trade assets off the list one by one... wouldn't surprise me to start hearing more about potential Cotts/Garza/Krod/Broxton deals as we move through the next few hours now that the Parra/Gomez deals are done. If not today, I think it'll be a busy August for Milwaukee.
  5. Certainly shows a nice breaking ball in that video Mass linked.
  6. Davies' AAA numbers this year are fantastic....
  7. I must admit, I thought the QO discussion was a bit crazy through this week, but the way Parra is playing lately, it's hard not to think he'll decline it in favor of a fairly pricey multi-year deal. I still expect him to be traded today, but I do think the return needs to be as or more valuable than the pick would bring us in a deep draft.
  8. A year a half of Gomez leading us to under .500 ball and a hit or miss pick is better than a pitcher that would automatically be or best pitcher and a hitter who is 23 and was a top 80 prospect most of his time in the minors. That makes no sense. The draft pick wod be lucky to turn into flores. Agreed. There has to be acknowledgement that a top 35 pick doesn't automatically equal 'top prospect' or 'Major Leaguer.' A guy like Flores has already HAD success in the minors, he's just waiting to have it translate over into MLB success after being brought up too early (much like Carlos Gomez early in his career).
  9. But if it was GOMEZ' medicals and not Wheeler's that killed the trade, you end up getting absolutely nothing for Gomez for the foreseeable future.
  10. Seems unlikely that Alderson would backtrack from a Carlos Gomez trade "has not and will not conspire" comments. That seems pretty definite to me...
  11. Seriously, I was fine with the earlier reported deal, and I think there are a lot of folks who were panicking about the direction of the franchise who should be realizing that the deal that wasn't is a clear indicator of a 'rebuild', despite what one dude from BP was reporting today. I'm confident something will come together soon on Gomez and our remaining pieces, and if they were truly concerned with Wheeler's medicals, it will likely be a better trade for Milwaukee in the end.
  12. A composite poster earlier today: 'OMG, what are you doing DOUG... no trades! We've overplayed our hand! We need to trade Gomez, Lind, Lucroy, everybody! Don't say there are no offers! Get what you can and get pitching!' Same poster at 8:00: 'OMG DOUG... how could you trade Gomez and not get more back?? I hate this deal.... we need more than 2 top 50 prospects for Gomez!!! He's under control for 1.5 more years- WHY TRADE HIM NOW?????' Same poster at 10:30: 'OMG, how could this deal fall through??? I'm realizing that my irrational hatred of this deal was completely misplaced! MAKE IT HAPPEN DOUG!'
  13. Waiting for trade news is really bugging me. I'm checking the site practically every 15 minutes, and have been for the past 5 days....
  14. Jayson Stark: "Also hearing this from teams that have interest in Adam Lind. They think he's going to land in St. Louis. "
  15. Do we know that they're not asking for one higher rated player plus a lower rated player? I don't really see the logic of asking for a one for one deal, unless it's for a guy like Norris straight up.
  16. I like Fiers a lot, but at 30, this may be the highest his trade value gets. If we can nab one of the Jays top 5 and another lower prospect or two, it'd be a great deal for Milwaukee. Also, had Doug traded with anyone more frequently than the Jays in his tenure?
  17. I don't think they need to unload EVERYBODY, but I do think they need to identify that 2017 is the year that they can most likely be somewhat competitive. And with that in mind, they should look to move anyone that at least isn't under contract through then (ie, Gomez), or someone blocking the place of a piece that will be a part of that team and beyond (ie, Segura). I won't lose sleep if they decide that they won't get the best value right now for guys like that who aren't FA's at year-end, but I would hope they're seriously shopped this offseason to free up playing time for guys like Arcia, free up payroll, and to continue to rebuild the system. And I think relying on Garza is a bad idea- between injuries and aging, we'll probably need a better arm to replace him in 2016 and beyond.
  18. Per Heyman: "San Diego still has interest in a shortstop and young pitching, so it may do some buying as well as selling. They've considered three shortstops in Milwaukee: Jean Segura, Luis Sardinas or Orlando Arcia." http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-heyman/25249253/inside-baseball-big-trade-storylines-involve-padres-tigers-hamels
  19. Definitely still in there.
  20. Intriguing arm. I'd say 3 million and a fringe prospect were in-line the highest hopes for a Ramirez trade, and at least this fringe prospect is both young and has had some success despite having little experience as a pitcher.
  21. I would expect this to be what happens as we move past the first week in August. They'll probably try to pitch him 1-2 more times to try to get a taker on a post-waiver deal, and if that fails, they'll probably release him at this point. Assuming, of course, they don't cut him when they activate Peralta...
  22. One more start before the deadline. You likely have to keep putting him out there to hope that he shows something so that you can at least work a waiver trade in August.
  23. That's a blanket statement that I doubt plenty. You're not accounting for the different place the team is now vs. where it was over the past few seasons- competitive vs. not competitive. And even in recent trades of Gallardo and Greinke, they certainly did not trade for "proven MLB players." Even dating back to the era prior to their 5-6 years of being generally competitive, there are plenty of examples where the current front office traded veterans for unproven talent. Every trade of anyone any consequence has brought MLB ready talent, sure there might have an unproven prospect or 2 in there, but the focal point was a MLB or MLB ready player. Well sure, you can certainly make that case, but that's not the point you made in your original post- "proven MLB players" and "MLB ready talent" are two very different things. I'll agree that most of their trades of veteran MLB assets have been for MLB-ready talent, but strongly disagree on the other point. And honestly, I don't care if their trades of assets now and in the offseason is for MLB ready talent or A ball talent- the point is that they get talent to add to the organization. Sure, we'd all prefer a Segura or Gomez-type player that is ready but unestablished, but not at the expense of taking a guy who is closer while passing over a top 30 prospect who is a couple more years away.
