  1. I think this is an interesting point. McCarthy, to his credit, made his name on being a guy innovative enough to adopt and embrace the changing landscape of the NFL initially as a HC and developed a pass-heavy system that was contrary to those offenses of the 80s and 90s that won in that era but were becoming obsolete. In his early career successes, he was coaching against the tail end of the Holmgren-era types and winning a bunch. Then, as the league adapted to defend against his own system and the wider adoption of pass-heavy systems, he proved unwilling or unable to adapt and continue to innovate himself. Now, he's up against a new era of youth, innovation, and in-game thinking, and he's now the guy getting left behind. Still a guy that is good enough as a HC to rack up in-season wins aplenty against the Giants and WFTs of the world, but struggles when having to run a gauntlet of high-quality playoff caliber teams.
  2. The honest issue I see with McCarthy in Dallas going forward is that like his staff in GB(at least offensively), he surrounded himself with a good staff that helped develop the system and built the success. As those guys bled off the staff in GB, innovation and success waned. It appears that his Dallas staff is set to be decimated this offseason, and that really makes you wonder about whether they’re primed for a modest pullback next year.
  3. There are also non-QB draw ways to get the ball in closer….
  4. Some rumors that McCarthy could be axed so the Cowboys can keep Kellen Moore.
  5. I think McCarthy is a good enough NFL head coach, but my goodness am I glad this type of garbage isn’t ours to deal with anymore.
  6. Assuming the KC win, Chiefs-Bills might be THE game to watch next week.
  7. Rooting hard for the Eagles and 49ers today, though smart money says only the 49ers are a realistic possibility. I expect KC to dominate tonight in another clunker game.
  8. Well, Northwestern certainly showed today that you shouldn’t look past them….
  9. Barring an unexpected flop agains Northwestern, that’ll set up a gigantic matchup vs. Michigan State next week.
  10. Fantastic performance. This team could be really special.
  11. For guys like Z and Whitney, that may be all they need. 10-15 pass rush snaps as fresh legs that also help keep Gary/Preston fresher. We've shown the LB corps can hold up fine as-is, so fresh pass rush legs are just a huge luxury.
  12. Apparently this is legit. If he's able to play, they kept that about as quiet as possible. Getting Mercilus and Z back for the playoffs would make for a silly good rotation for pass rush situations.
  13. I'm still a believer, as PMI is just wasted money even though it's tax deductible if you're still able to itemize. I haven't run any calcs to determine 'lost' market ROR on the hypothetical difference between a 5% down payment and the 20% PMI threshold, though.
  14. You could actually argue that the Giants are the ONE team Rodgers doesn't own.
  15. Sounds like the Broncos will also interview Luke Getsy, who would be the logical choice to replace Hackett if he gets a HC job. Would kind of stink to lose both.
  16. Reports yesterday were that Turner finally cleared COVID protocols, but MLF couldn’t say if he’d start practicing tomorrow or not.
  17. Though true, it was a different McCaskey in charge back then. George seems to have a very short amount of patience.
  18. Yeah, that's the heart of what I alluded to before- Harbaugh's 'scorched earth' personality style may not sit well with the strong-willed McCaskeys or the Chicago media. The other issue with a QB/offense guy like Harbaugh is that he may not want to be pigeonholed into taking on someone else's guy in Fields vs. choosing his own QB. Pace managed to stick two Bears HC's with a QB- Nagy with Trubisky and Nagy's eventual replacement with Fields. A new coach would have to be someone ok with the thought that their own success and/or eventual job loss is dependent more on Fields than anything else, and that doesn't strike me as a match with Harbaugh's personality. I think the Bears job makes a lot of sense for Harbaugh due to his history in the organization and the prestige of the job, but I'm not sure it's a good match based on the situation the Bears' roster is currently in or Harbaugh's personality.
  19. I think it was discussed when the 'tag' story was leaked by someone, but the only real way a tag makes sense is if they make it to the point where they've destroyed the roster and gone into a cap-fueled mini-rebuild and they do a tag and trade. That seems to be the only plausible scenario where he's tagged.
  20. Spielman kind of felt like a guy that bumbled his way into a modest level of success without really earning it, and when your team seemingly perpetually disappoints, not a shock that both he and Zimmer got axed. Similarly, Pace is the guy that REALLY needed to take a lot of the heat for the mess in Chicago and they were smart in canning him along with Nagy, who benefitted from inheriting a team on the upswing, then the duo promptly bumbled away their window and ability to reload. I guess I'm most worried about Harbaugh landing in Chicago since I'd assume there's an appeal there because of his playing days. I think the guy is a dangerous coach for them in that I think he does know what he's doing, even if his personality makes it likely his stay anywhere will be short.
  21. You kneel here, right? You almost have to.
  22. Holy cow, they may actually tie.
  23. I hope this was your feeling before the game and not as a result of what you saw today? IMO, the only real conclusions that can be drawn on today's game is that A)Bakh held up very well in his return, and B)Detroit played the game to win it while the Packers played it like there was a needless game on their schedule.
  24. I mean we have gotten a pretty good look at him twice now, do you like what you have seen? Beyond happy with what I saw today. He led them on three scoring drives with literally the backup o-line, St. Brown as the best receiver on the field, and the 3rd string running back after Dillon left early in the third. I'm not letting a botched everything by Amari and an ill-advised pass with a defensive tackle coming in for a free hit ruin that. Shouldn't have thrown the ball, but that's something a young QB still has the opportunity to learn. You want to see development, and I think we saw that as the KC game went on, and it further carried on into today's game where he was playing with the 2nd string against the Lions' starters. Works for me...
  25. I waited until the second mistake. Blaming him for Rodgers dropping a pass that tipped upward into the defender's arms is beyond unfair, IMO.
