  1. I think that it's worth mentioning in the discussion about 'special teams roster spots' is that injury, and the Packers' seemingly horrendous issues with them every year, impacts special teams directly via the trickle up effect. IE, you need guys that hypothetically were on the roster primarily in special teams roles to now be your 3rd CB, etc., resulting in that player not actually playing on special teams and some guy you got off the street earlier in the week filling the ST part of the role. That does matter, and I think it hurts the Packers' unit every year.
  2. Results don't agree with this point. The team and Rodgers have performed exceptionally well with Adams off the field over the past 3 seasons, for the record.
  3. Very fair question on Savage. The major concern is that the new defensive scheme didn’t agree with him which could be indicative of a longer term problem. But yeah, he went from solid to liability this season unexpectedly.
  4. Doesn’t matter how much draft capital you spend on WRs unless your QB actually decides he’s willing to throw to them. He didn’t throw to his hand-picked veteran receiver on Saturday that he demanded the team bring in, so what makes you think he’s throwing to a first or second-year WR?
  5. Thanks for sharing- I hadn't seen that before!
  6. I hope this puts an end to the org's longstanding and bewildering practice of promoting the assistant to a bad ST coordinator to take over the job. It's literally saying 'That guy was terrible. I think the guy that worked for him might work!' Huh?
  7. I agree with this. If they had kicked it off and gave up a modest return, the Bills would be crucified for it today. They gave them the ball at the 25 with seconds left. The failure is on the defense, not the decision to kick deep.
  8. Defensive penalties result in an untimed down to prevent this very scenario.
  9. This has come up in the thread before as well so I wanted to pose the question- do we know if this was the actual game plan, or just what QB1 decided to do? It became apparent with Favre that the team & staff was ready to move on because he was doing what he wanted to do vs. what the team wanted him to do, especially in the playoffs. Is this a repeat of that situation? It sure looked like Rodgers fell into his rare but historically present bad habit of only throwing to a couple of guys he 'trusts'. I think there's at least a modest possibility that the game plan and what Rodgers chose to do didn't completely line up. I'm 100% sure that the game plan didn't call for Rodgers to ignore his progressions. Yeah, that's where I'm at too. Like I and many have said, this one reminds me all too much of 2007, where the QB indicated that he was going to do what he wanted and not what the play called for. That may work in the regular season against the Bears, but it didn't work in the cold against playoff teams.
  10. On Bakh, I agree that it makes virtually no sense to cut him. But, based on how they structured his deal when signed last year, he's a super logical and easy restructure which would clear roughly $9mil at first glance. So I'd bet there's almost zero chance he's not a Packer next year, but I'd also bet there's almost zero chance he plays 2022 on his current deal/cap number.
  11. The Packers have been caught on this before, so I don' think this is out of the realm of possibility. I guess you have to think their calc is that 100% of Kelly/Turner was better than 60% of Bakh, or whatever.... but it's possible they thought holding him out would get him from there to 80% and they gambled and lost.
  12. I know Murphy was at the top of the food chain for hiring MLF, but have there been any reports that he was involved in hiring MLF's staff?

  14. I actually think the team that makes the MOST sense might be Philly, in part because of their 3 middle-round 1sts this year. In addition, they do appear to be missing a QB- that game against TB showed a team that is on the verge of being something with a competent QB, especially in that dumpster-fire division. They've got cap room but far less than a team like Indy or Denver, but they'd be my personal favorite to see if we can pry a couple of those 2022 firsts out of them...
  15. While I do think that (and the related circus resulting from it) pushed some who were on the fence over to the other side, I think you're off the mark on the whole. We have extended family in Green Bay, and have been there 6-8 times over the past year. Any you know where COVID stopped being a thing anyone cared about 12 months ago? Green Bay, Wisconsin. Undoubtedly a factor in some minds, but I would bet that 80+% of the fanbase doesn't really care about the vaccine thing other than as one additional straw to break the camel's back. Those that are done with him this morning are done with him because of either A)his whole on-and-off the field 'body of work' the past few seasons, or B)being fed up with another playoff disappointment that fell in no small part on his own shoulders last night.
  16. Yep. Wouldn't have been activated if they weren't playing. Even if they play 12-20 snaps, that's big. Turner 100% good to go as well, per MLF.
  17. I think Bostad was specifically ILB coach, so presumably the other LB coach could just absorb those duties.
  18. Yeah, I don't specifically recall any RBs going off on us. Where I recall struggles this year is with running QBs. I'd be curious to know how many of the yards given up this year were attributable to mobile QBs?
  19. I think this stat without context is unfair. They ranked 11th in the league in rush defense this year. In 2019, that yardage ranked 23rd. I think you can make an argument that the YPC is misleading due to the time guys like Clark missed with COVID, etc. In addition to the overall performance being better, the run defense DID seem to pass the eye test as being improved as well. But that's just IMO.
  20. Yes, it is worth giving credit where it's due- Lowry has quietly had a pretty nice year, actually.
  21. Good grief. Calm down and make your free throws and this is over.
  22. The NFL actually ended up here with 3 potentially great matchups, and the other should at least be interesting (Ten/Cincy). Seems like the projections have solidly shifted to a KC/GB Super Bowl at this point, which would be a lot of fun. But, two games left to get there, obviously.
  23. Mayock out as GM for the Raiders.
  24. Interesting. That is genius if the interest rate is lower than what is on the mortgage. If the mortgage rate is lower than the HELOC, I don't know if I agree. Plus it saves you the closing costs. I feel like I'm missing something here because HELOCs are (quick google) much higher than mortgages. Above 4% while my mortgage is 3% and a new mortgage would be 2.65%. Yeah, I’m not following either. Wasn’t the tax deductibility of HELOCs also eliminated by the tax reform a few years ago? Even if you got a sweet intro rate on a HELOC, you’d have to think that a deductible mortgage rate where they’re at now would beat that unless the HELOC was at a zero intro rate. Then, you’d be subjected to the floor rate unless you were constantly churning your LOC.
  25. Looking a bit closer at 'the play' today, and it's actually a solid 'analytics' call against the defense the 49ers were running. Problem is, it's a call that was made vs. a defense and seemingly not with the in-game situation in mind. I'd be curious (and I'd expect this data exists somewhere) to know what the average snap to 'clock-it' time off the clock is when the offense calls a run play under two minutes. My rough guess would be 10-15 seconds. Obviously, the longer the run, the more extended the time off is. I think it's fair to say that it would have been a borderline great call if they had snapped it with 18-20 seconds. But, I'd have to think that at 14, they were on the verge of not having enough time regardless of the play's outcome. Still, I'd bet their assumption was that Dak would gain maybe 10-ish yards and would be downed with more than enough time left to clock it with 2-4 seconds still left. That the play sprung bigger than that was their first undoing, plus all the ineptitude around how they handled the ball after that. I don't think the play call was poor, but I think it was a bad idea considering the time left and their position on the field. That and obviously poor coaching as to what to do after the play are what should be rightfully criticized today, just IMO.
