  1. McGehee will cost $500K and is a nice bench player or starter. Assuming he doesn't go back to the production you'd expect from his minor league numbers. I'm fairly surprised Al- aren't you normally wary of the small sample size and big on buy low, sell high? Why is McGehee different?
  2. Odd question, but for signings like the Molitor ones in Appleton/Madison in the coming weeks, they should have pens there for him to sign with, right (not just sharpies)? Or should I bring a blue pen just in case?
  3. I selfishly don't want to deal with the media and this board if Bedard was here. A guy who often takes himself out at 100 pitches in a city that thought Sheets didn't give enough last year with 198 innings? This is very true- Bedard would be a legit #1 or #2 pitcher especially considering what a switch to the NL would do for his numbers, but he's got major durability issues. If it would be on a one-year deal, I'm fine with it, but any longer and we're asking for trouble.
  4. According to the JS, he's to partake in absolutely no activity for 7 days after the surgery. Sounds like he might have been in pretty bad shape. I talked to the EMT I work with and he said the procedure Hart had done according to the JS (laparoscopy) is a minimally invasive procedure that would only be done if the appendix was in tact, and shouldn't take more than a week or two to heal at the very, very most. He was also completely stunned about the length of time Hart was expected to miss. That they're saying he'll be out at least a month makes me wonder whether there's a lot more here than we're being told, or makes me wonder about the competency of the Brewers' medical staff.
  5. I have a sneaking suspicion McGehee could turn out to be a similar case. Honestly, I agree. I think there's a real possibility this is a one-year-wonder sort of thing and I think the Brewers should try to turn that into something useful, especially if they bring Lopez back to cover the utility IF role.
  6. Don't fret, he will be back way before September. Unless his appendix burst and there is an infection, he should be back in 2 weeks tops. Yeah, I was actually a little stunned they put him on the DL... appendectomies are practically day surgery at this point. Unless, as Mike said, it burst.
  7. My point is that if they're looking to save money in any place, I'd think 4th or 5th OF is a pretty good bet for where they'll look first.
  8. Why is that? He isn't a free agent after this year. He seems like the type the might well decide to non-tender if they get in a salary pinch with whatever happens with the rotation.
  9. I almost expect the Brewers to sign Doug Davis at this point- he fits a need, fits the price range, will be type B instead of type A, and would actually have a serious interest in coming here.
  10. No you couldn't be farther from the truth. First Hardly would have pouted and stomped his feet and wouldn't even think about playing 3B so that would have been out of the question. Think what Bill Hall did last year when asking for a trade but this time multiply that by 100 of the crying and complaining from Hardly. Really, this is the level we're sinking to here?
  11. Gerut was an awesome pickup, and I wouldn't be upset if he's our starting CF next year. I agree that he's much, much better than he's shown so far, but I'm not entirely convinced that the Brewers will bring him back next year, FWIW.
  12. If Rottino wasn't a local boy would anyone care Yeah, considering his overall struggles in the minors recently, I suspect if his hometown was Tacoma, WA he'd have been released a while ago.
  13. If the idea Melvin has/had is to acquire rotation stop gaps every year the Brewers are in contention, I think that plan stinks. For the record, Peavy would not have been a stop gap. And we really don't know who the mysterious pitcher in the three-team deal that didn't happen was either, I guess.
  14. "Recently released by the Nationals" = all you need to know. Well, Jesus Colome has been awesome at AAA for us so far. I have no problem with anyone on a minor league deal, and this is no different. Not like we have any other internal options that are particularly better if we decide to trade Cam anyway.
  15. Kazmir is a really, really good guess.
  16. Yeah, instead he's counting on a 23 year old who pitched a little over 30 innings last year to lead a staff. And Yo's 3.13 ERA in 135 innings so far has been a problem?
  17. Melvin too often has placed his bets on the Burketts and Suppans of the world; strike throwers with very little upside and guys that are just not good enough to lead a staff. But they weren't being counted on to lead a staff, they were being counted on to fill in a staff.... that's a huge difference.
  18. And then he gave up on a young, hard throwing lefty ...who is finally putting up his first truly good season four seasons later.
  19. And we traded JDLR for Tony Graffanino. Not exactly impressive. But he was brought in for Sexson and didn't pan out. That was his point.
  20. Bobskube said that the Brewers were bidding hard on Peavy until the trade with the White Sox was finalized, but couldn't offer the young pitching that the White Sox could in the end (as mentioned in the article linked above as well): http://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?t=19928?page=1 (About halfway down the page) No clue on the three-team deal for a guy that wasn't moved. If we're talking big name pitchers that weren't moved but possibly could have been, who in the world would fit that bill? Haren?
  21. Because Dillard isn't particularly good?
  22. Give up Gamel or Escobar if that is what it was going to take to get a LEGITIMATE 1 or 2 starter. By some reports, it would have taken both, plus more.
  23. I was also told Hall, Parra, Escobar, and Gamel. Wow, I think the Brewers are better for having that not go anywhere if true.
  24. he is making some valid points. I tend to agree. He's correct that the HOF will almost certainly induct a steroid user that may or may not later on be revealed as such, then it creates some serious questions/issues about what you do if they are revealed after induction.
