  1. Some Giants blog (Giants Cove) is reporting Durham, Taschner and PTBNL for Salome, Nelson and Ford. That looks to be nothing more than wishful thinking on his part- he cites MLBtraderumors as his source, but when you go to the article there, MLBTR makes zero mention of what the deal would be beyond Durham, Taschner, and Ford (which we already knew).
  2. I'm not a big fan of this deal....hopefully it doesn't disrupt the clubhouse. These young guys are very tight. Taschner is essentially replacing Mota, and Durham will be replacing Dillon. Other than weeks getting some additional time off, I don't see why the young guys would be put out by a deal. Unless the "unsubstantiated reports" of Weeks' inclusion in a larger-scale deal are true, of course.
  3. Well if it involves SF, there won't be any official announcement until after the game tomorrow, no? I don't think that's a given- would SF really want to play tomorrow's game essentially down a player or two?
  4. Mota being included is probably a good call, Al. But if nothing else, he may help offset the ~4 million in salary the Brewers would pick up if Durham is involved.
  5. Rottino appears to be sitting out tonight for Nashville as well, FWIW.
  6. Haudricourt really doesn't sound to have any good info on this. Yeah, before people get too worked up about getting Taschner, we really don't have any idea if that's the move. Tom was just speculating that it was possibly for Taschner or Durham. Heck, could be Cain for all we know.
  7. Tom with another update saying it may be a deal with the Giants: http://blogs.jsonline.com/brewers/archive/2008/07/19/it-could-be-a-minor-deal.aspx
  8. 1250 reported that Salome was involved in a fight earlier this week (along w/ 8 other players) and supposedly that's why he's not in the line-up. for what it's worth. Good call Brewcrew39, that definitely makes sense.
  9. I'm not that familiar with the minors, but couldn't Salome just be getting the day off? It certainly could be possible, but the Stars do have an off day right around the corner on Monday. I also went back and couldn't find anything on a possible Angel injury in yesterday's Link Report. Certainly doesn't mean that he didn't tweak something, but the timing seems fishy.
  10. Salome being out for Huntsville makes this VERY interesting....
  11. Tom's second post didn't really specify whether it was with the A's or not, so I'd think it could be with anyone. Though I'd be fairly surprised if they completed a deal with the Giants while they're playing them, but it's certainly a strong possibility.
  12. Any game that starts during that time cannot be shown on TV. Nope, that's true. But the point is, FSN and Fox are owned by the same company. What is being gained by Rupert by not having the game on the air?
  13. No TV tomorrow 2nd game after the All-Star Break? What is FSN showing instead, the 19th re-running of Gary Sheffield Beyond the Glory or some UCLA baseball again? Absolutely freaking ridiculous.
  14. I can't believe some of those things Rick Reilly was saying and can't believe ESPN kept putting him on the air. Who in the heck is Rick Reilly anyway?
  15. Angel's defensive options are really stick at catcher or play DH for an AL team. As long as he's with the Brewers, he'll probably catch, but it's fairly likely LuCroy passes him in the system next year, and Lawrie won't be too far behind.
  16. Seems to happen every year- some guy puts up a monster early round (though none were as monster as Josh's this year), and they get beat in the finals.
  17. Having the theme from The Natural playing in the background near the end there is strangely appropriate in that situation....
  18. Some nice love from ESPN about the Brewers' power hitters- Hart, Fielder, Braun, Weeks, and LaPorta. Cripes.
  19. Um, the Orioles have this guy named Wieters that seems like he could be ok at C, so they would have little to no interest in Salome. Considering that Salome is fairly unlikely to stay at catcher, I don't think that matters much.
  20. I'd do Weeks and Salome for Roberts and a pitching prospect or a bullpen arm. Weeks/Salome/Gwynn/A-Ball prospect for Roberts and Chad Bradford probably would work well for both teams, I'd think.
  21. Roberts would be a free agent after 2009.
  22. Wow Rickie, you finally get a hit and then make a really dumb baserunning mistake. That's stuff taught in Little League.
  23. I don't think I've EVER seen a starting pitcher get away with so many hanging breaking balls not only at the belt but above the belt. This is absolutely ridiculous. I agree- he's hanging a TON of pitches.
  24. Roberts would be such an insanely huge upgrade from Weeks at this point, it's not even funny. The Brewers really need to make an upgrade at 2nd, as Weeks is hurting the team at this point.
