  1. Green, Gillespie, Pena, sounds good to me. Not quite sure if that does it, but I think they'd almost certainly accept Green, LaPorta and Pena, IMO.
  2. If Cleveland is hot on Green, any idea what else we'd be giving along with him?
  3. Wow, thanks Shouse. Only took you one pitch. Jeebus.
  4. Turnbow's 5+ ERA didn't keep him from going to the ASG. But he had a lot of saves! 4.74 http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  5. Wow, what an awesome couple of frames here after a completely unexciting first six innings.....
  6. Laurel Prieb sitting next to Melvin and Ash?
  7. If I read the rules right, he'd have 4 days to decide to accept the assignment or become a FA. I still think that's the rule for outrighting, not optioning. I think if a player is optioned, he doesn't have a choice, but no I'm not sure of that. I think they could put him on revokable waivers Because of his service time (more than three years from his first stint on the 25-man), he'd have to be exposed to revokable waivers regardless of the option. That I'm positive about. The real question is what if anything Hall can do about the option. Earlier this year, Capellan's choices were report or retire. I think Hall's would be the same, but again, I'm not sure, as Capellan certainly had less time than Hall.
  8. Strangely enough, I've been trying to log into a Nike forum since the site launched 7 or so years ago, but keep getting directed here. Moral of the story: Visit the Nike forum enough accidentally and they'll make you a moderator.
  9. Doesn't he have 5 years of service? Won't he have to agree to the option consent? I think the 5 years of service rule only comes into play when you're outrighting a player (like Turnbow). Hall would have to clear revokeable waivers since he's been on a 25-man roster for certain, though. If some team would put a claim in, the Brewers would either pull him back or simply let the other team take him at his full remaining contract (which might not be a bad idea at this point).
  10. He simply cannot be allowed to play and should be DFA'd. Dont worry, no one would pick him up, and be sent to the minors. Well, since he has an option left, he wouldn't need to be DFA'd to send him to the minors. I have to say to everyone that argued with me in the past that Bill Hall is an awful baseball player. Just because he's an awful baseball player now doesn't mean that he always was in the past. Just ask the D-backs starting pitcher tonight.
  11. I'm actually surprised that Braun is even close. I'd say that Kendall being third, Weeks 5th at 2B, and Hall 4th(!!) at 3B, and all three OFers being in the Top 15 overall suggests that Brewer fans vote a LOT for the All Star game.
  12. So how come nobody says anything in this thread when the Cubs kick somebody's butt. People here have an interest in seeing the Cubs lose, and aren't particularly thrilled to see the Cubs win. This is brewerfan.net, not cubsfan.net, afterall.
  13. Of course now that Bavasi's out of a job, the competition inevitably gets tougher for Doug. And that brings up one of my major concerns with the suggestion that the Brewers should fire Doug because there might be a guy out there that can get us a couple more wins- what if by some chance, the ownership decides that someone like Bavasi is the guy for the job? Heck, most people didn't think we could get much worse than the Bando/Garner tandem, but Lopes ended up being a worse manager and Taylor did almost as much as Bando to decimate the major league team through horrific trades and major-league level moves.
  14. Has anyone ever gotten anything from Omaha Steaks? Are they really as good as advertised? Anyone have any positive or negative feedback?
  15. What are the actual chances of him actually being 16 years old? I've heard rumors he's actually 63.
  16. Arguing that people say Inman's ceiling is not very high is what kind of defense? That is calling Inman a scrub, no? Actually, no. People saying Inman's ceiling isn't very high simply means that in the bigs they don't think he'll be more than a 4th or 5th starter. It's YOU that is assuming they mean he's a scrub as a result. The guy was drafted in the top 100 picks out of high school. What gets old is the consistent defending of Melvin on that trade and the same lame argument that we got two picks in return, no? Because if you're touting that Inman was drafted in the top 100 picks out of high school, don't you then also have to acknowledge that the two players picked with those two picks we got in return were ALSO picked in the Top 100 picks, one of them out of high school?
  17. Sorry, this thread beat you by a minute: http://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?t=13725
  18. 4 straight high fastballs with an 0-2 count was just plain stupid. How about wasting a pitch? Throwing a slider or something? I agree- for as good as Kendall has been this year behind the plate and in every facet of the game at catcher, the AB to Mauer was completely puzzling and obviously lost us the game.
  19. He needs to be locked up for next year, immidiately. Even after these torrid couple of months, I still don't think it would cost much. It would pretty much be the definition of a low risk, high reward deal. That's the weird position he's putting the Brewers in at this point- if his BA stays even reasonably close to what it is now with the power that he's bound to put up, there's no doubt at all that he'd be our best option at 3B next year, and maybe in 2010 as well.
  20. I guess I'm puzzled as to why this discussion was re-kindled- the team is now living up to expectations for the most part, as the team is 7 games over .500 at the exact half way point (on pace for 86 wins), and generally living up to expectations at this point, even though Gallardo has missed almost the entire year to this point. The only move from the offseason that has been truly bad was Gagne, while signing Kapler, Branyan, and Kendall have proven to be great moves, trading for Torres was fantastic, and Mota and Cameron have largely given the team what was expected of them to this point. I guess I don't see where the heat on Melvin should be coming from at this point. If the team finishes 86-76 and are in the playoff race for the rest of the year, this thread is completely moot.
  21. Giving the jack he did to a one year wonder in Turnbow was horrific and been a trainwreck. That 'jack' was a whopping 6.5 million over three years. I don't know how a contract can be a trainwreck for that amount of money in today's baseball.
  22. Wow, barring a comeback, we really threw away a great opportunity to gain on STL and the Cubs tonight.....
  23. Kendall has been great behind the plate this year, but calling for fastball up after fastball up after fastball up is just asking for disaster against ANY hitter, let alone Mauer. Completely puzzling.
  24. I've never understood how anyone can say Melvin is not one of the better GMs in the league. Amen.
