  1. I think the timing is because of the early signing period for recruiting. If you wait it out at OU, you sign the recruits for a team you're not going to coach and there is no direction at USC to sign that class with an unknown HC. If you get to USC now, you have all the hype in the media and can make a push to bring over some of your top recruits with you to bolster the current recruits and likely improve that quickly. I would guess Nelson (QB) follows him and probably some RB and WRs too. I can see the appeal of the USC job and getting an established college coach should do wonders for returning them to a top power quickly (unfortunately). I get all of that and it's completely valid, but why the need to leave OU at all? They're not jumping to the SEC until mid-decade. Seems like if the goal is 'NFL or CFB success', doesn't even one additional year at OU make more sense than jumping to USC if the NFL job you want doesn't come calling?
  2. I think that's the heart of my question- why make a jump to a USC program with the intent to rebuild rather than waiting a month to see what NFL offers come in, since he's been linked there the past 2 offseasons? Is USC really a better job than sticking at OU through the bowl? USC just seems like the job a bounced NFL HC (Cough..... Urban Meyer.....) takes after they get canned this January, not a top coaching candidate already at a name program.
  3. Since the Rams have "gone all in" neither has won a super bowl but the Rams have made it there. Seems the results are about equal. I was referring to this year's roster construction, so I'm not sure the super bowl they made 3 1/2 seasons ago is a proper barometer of success. At least the Packers have draft picks to continue to fill holes going forward. The Rams literally have a 3rd, 5th, and two 7th rounders next year. And, like the Packers, no cap space.
  4. Being aggressive seems to be working out pretty well for Arizona. Didn't work so well on October 28th. The point is, running a franchise like fantasy football works if you do it smartly. And the Rams (and to an extent, the Bears) didn't obtain the results to match the capital they gave up. While the Packers have filled holes with miscellaneous players that are playing all-pro level.
  5. A lot of chatter tonight on Twitter about how the Rams basically went out and did everything a fanbase WANTS a team to do to build their team- trading for Miller and Stafford, signing OBJ, etc., while the Packers have basically acquired guys like Campbell and Douglas for nothing, and have watched them excel when thrust into major roles. In the process, the Rams have built a flawed team, shortened their window by decimating their ability to plug holes because they've traded away their next drafts, and may be fighting to make the playoffs as a wildcard. And the Packers are 4-0 vs. the NFC West. Gute and the FO are hated by a portion of the fan base, and all they continue to do is prove how good they are at their jobs. The way this team has been able to plug guys in to cover for devastating positional injuries has been absolutely amazing.
  6. Stunningly bad. I thought one of the benefits of the younger coaches was supposed to be Madden-like clock management and risk-taking. The clock management stuff doesn’t seem to be better….
  7. But it wasn’t when the issues started. His timing got completely out of whack as a result. I’m sure he’s confining with the holder that all went well on that end in that situation. Yeah. I get it. Just so over it. Yeah, no doubt. Encouraging today before that, so maybe we can hope…
  8. I guess I don't know the rule there but you can't do a run and get to the other hash? I am still baffled why they didn't run and take 40 seconds off the clock, they may have even got the first down. No, I agree with you- a run to the right was the better play call. Of course, if Adams just hangs on to the ball, it’s moot….
  9. So tired of him and the holder talking about the miss. You missed it Crosby. It’s on you. Just like it is a majority of the time. But it wasn’t when the issues started. His timing got completely out of whack as a result. I’m sure he’s confining with the holder that all went well on that end in that situation.
  10. In a situation like that and when Crosby is clearly hooking left, setting up the FG from the right hash was almost as smart a play as they could have run.
  11. Dillon is a major weapon close and late.
  12. Douglas is a good corner. How we got him for zip is amazing.
  13. How is that not a penalty on Donald?
  14. One case where perception definitely matches the statistics. How are they as high as third worst? What two teams could possibly be worse? Also a fair question….
  15. Cobb’s legs look vintage tonight. Two speedy YAC plays thus far.
  16. One case where perception definitely matches the statistics.
  17. They seemed to say that wasn't the case in the broadcast. The issue is that you still have to be in a clear position to catch the ball. After Cobb bobbled it forward, he wasn’t.
  18. Nice to hold them to a FG after the bad turnover.
  19. You could make a case for the catcher to have a chance at the ball, but Cobb didn’t have position to validly do so.
  20. That side judge should be embarrassed that he called that a TD.
  21. If we had even decent special teams, we’d be pretty tough to beat.
  22. 50/50 ball, falling defender and a missed tackle. Argh.
  23. Somewhere someone is still grumbling about the Gary pick for no valid reason. Nice TD play call!
  24. At this point I’d feel better without a return guy I sadly agree with this completely.
  25. Lincoln Riley leaving Oklahoma for... USC, apparently?
