  1. How is that even possible Exactly the first thought that popped into my head. The Vikings are weird. Their drafts have universally been praised the past two seasons, yet the team is trending significantly downward and those draftees aren't stepping in. So odd.
  2. Sounds like they are trying to get him onto their practice squad, but he's most likely going to find a home elsewhere on a 53 man roster with a bigger TE need....whether that be a direct waiver claim or simply going to a different team's practice squad. Pretty much a wasted 3rd round draft pick a couple years ago - injuries at bad times limited his development, especially in 2019. Another case of "what could have been." Fortunately Robert Tonyan has become what Sternberger could have been. Very good point on Tonyan/Sternberger. Absolutely thought he was going to be a big deal at the time Jace was picked. Disappointed that we seem to whiff on our thirds as of late. Hopefully Rodgers breaks that trend.
  3. I thought Campbell played well as the game went on, but that may have been because the Lions were forced to pass to catch up. I agree that it's hard to gauge anything from playing the Lions, but the second half looked far more competent and encouraging on both sides of the ball than the first did. It's possible the defense is still catching up to the scheme, which is both fair/plausible and possibly overly-optimistic. Won't know much until the next two weeks. You have to look at least competitive in both games defensively to feel good about the future of the season, I'd think.
  4. Good showing by Stokes overall. Tested a bunch of times and made some really nice plays in man one-on-one defense.
  5. Campbell’s number has been called a ton tonight.
  6. Good grief Aaron, he was triple covered.
  7. Nice coverage by Stokes on a bewildering play call on 4th and 1.
  8. Much, much sharper on offense today.
  9. Has a defensive coordinator ever been fired mid-game before? Asking for a friend….
  10. What a strange two minute drill by the Lions. Really feels like they played their way out of a 7 there.
  11. It would be peak Packers defense to have the Lions completely mismanage the clock and still find a way to give up a TD.
  12. I’m cautiously optimistic that we may finally have a competent special teams unit and coach.
  13. I mean to me the MNF commentators are wrong. It's a classic grounding. Yes there's a receiver 20 yards down the field that you can construe as an intended receiver. Literally pretty much every grounding situation ever involves pressure that affects a throw. If you're going to just assume that the throw gets there without the pressure then it kind of defeats the purpose of the rule. Yeah, I don't get the "he meant to throw it way downfield". So what? He didn't. the ref's job isn't to determine intent. By rule what occurred was intentional grounding. Yeah, I agree with you both. I’ve literally never heard anything other than did it make it past the line of scrimmage/outside the tackle box. Never anything about ‘intent’.
  14. To wit: My goodness i can’t believe that’s real.
  15. No kidding. My wife wasn’t into the Manning thing, but I’m thoroughly disappointed by the ‘regular’ booth.
  16. To be fair, King seems to be regressing. There was a time when his biggest problem was not being able to stay on the field. Now, he’s getting toasted left and right.
  17. Barry and King might have some weird bet on who needs to sell their house first.
  18. I think that's both fair and dependent on one's own definition of brutal I think the general assumption was a 'Cubs-like' 4-5 year rebuild, as you note. Whether that expectation included 3-4 years of top 5 picks-level bad, I can't say for certain, but I think that was the assumption of the more typical fanbase and the local/national media (who admittedly are often wrong, especially where the Stearns-led Brewers have been). But in any case, they certainly were ahead of their expected window of competitiveness. Whether that's Stearns' success or having some pieces on-hand that Melvin and Stearns were both able to start the rebuild with or some combination of both is anyone's guess, I suppose.
  19. At the same time, though, that was EXPECTED to be a brutal/long rebuild at the time. Considering they found a way to basically be competitive 1.5 years later (missing the WC just one full season after Stearns was hired), I wouldn't be surprised if they end up with a Cardinals-like situation where they never really have to truly 'rebuild' (call it soft if you'd prefer, I suppose), while still being vaguely in the WC race, etc.
  20. Like the guys that run the Brewers? Not sure what was meant by this?
  21. I think it's equally wild that despite that, they still have a favorable path to make the playoffs. Truly a testament to how stunningly mediocre the middle tier of NL teams have ended up being. I think the assumption was that someone would step up and grab that last WC spot, but it seems to be a case of whoever bumbles it away the least is going to make the playoffs.
