  1. I echo a ton of what Ben said- he'd certainly be an upgrade, and we'd probably be able to use the picks to fill any holes in the system. But if it gets into a situation where they'd want one of our top guys, forget it. A package centering around Gillespie might do the trick.
  2. I know lots of people loved his last start but most times you walk 5 in less than 7 innings you're in real trouble. Two of those walks came in the 7th after he had clearly run out of gas, and he had a WHIP of less than one going into that inning. Of course, the running out of gas in the 7th itself is an issue, but hopefully less of one as the season goes on.
  3. As good as the Brewers have been for the last month, they aren't currently in the playoff picture. How do you define 'in the playoff picture'? At the end of the day today, it's possible for them to be 0.5 games out of the Wildcard and 4 games out in the division. As of now, they're very much in the race. But a lot can change in the next month.
  4. It really is astounding that Rivera continues to hit so well considering how little playing time he gets and how mediocre he is in the minors.
  5. It seems to be turning into a three team race right now, with the Brewers 2.5 games ahead of the third team. But as we've seen in the last couple of weeks, things can change quickly.
  6. Kindly point the staff to some examples, and I'm sure Brian would be happy to take a look at the problem. Anything? As Toby said, I don't really think one/two-word posting has been an issue over the last few months by anyone, moderator or otherwise at least as far as I can recall.
  7. I don't get why he'd decline the assignment. Is it really that demeaning to go down to AAA? He'd still get paid the same. I think Scott Boras is giving the guy bad advice, personally. Yeah, he reinforced his erratic and mediocre at best performance in Milwaukee, I can't imagine that there are going to be a lot of teams out there that are interested at this point, and certainly not on a Big League contract.
  8. Tavarez has refused his assignment after a change of heart. He's now a free agent, and let's all just pretend that this whole thing never actually took place so we can go back to not liking him. http://blogs.jsonline.com/brewers/archive/2008/06/24/tavarez-refuses-assignment.aspx
  9. The guy keeps claiming a guy was banned because he was arguing for Mark DeRosa over weeks, but unless I'm missing something in that thread, the guy left on his own free will because he didn't want to deal with Gopher anymore.
  10. Lawrie is participating in the World Junior Championships for the Canadians- I'd imagine talks won't get serious until that concludes.
  11. I think this is the DeRosa vs Weeks thread that is being refered to. Although I could be mistaken. From that thread: Anyways I'm done with this board, if Gopher74 gets banned for being a idiot, someone please PM and I would love to come back and chat with you guys. Goodbye to everyone else Sure sounds to me like that guy left on his own, not banned.
  12. I think Ben is at his best in these warm-weather, middle to late innings when he's loose and the curveball is working well. He's literally unhittable, and the K's come in clumps.
  13. Try LaPorta, Gwynn and Nelson at least. Yeah, that's probably much more in line with what we'd have to give. And sign me up for that in a heartbeat. I'd even throw them Luis Pena if they needed an arm in return.
  14. jcr0nk- sent you a PM.
  15. Are either of you near the Madison area? I might have an extra one to trade, but have had horrific luck with shipping and would be interested in an in-person swap, if possible.
  16. Even Jack Zduriencik has blown numerous 1st round picks and only 3 of his 2nd or 3rd round picks have even played in the majors and one of those is Gwynn Jr. Actually, in every one of his drafts since his first, either his 1st or 2nd round pick has come up as a decent big leaguer, and in 2003 he had both of them make the majors. I'd think that getting two more 1st/2nd rounders strongly suggests that one of the two picks will result in another big leaguer out of Jack.
  17. The Fish certainly seem to be slumping at just the right time for the Brewers' run back into WC contention as well.
  18. To me at least, the thing that has bothered me, is when people will comment on 2 or 3 different posts in a thread, in new separate posts -- when it could be all done in one post. That's really what we're talking about here. The IGT is a completely different medium for posting style, so it's generally exempt from a lot of the major rules (consecutive and one-line posts, etc). I've found it odd that two of the most talked about issues in the past, being condescending and posting one or two word replies, are now almost solely done by 2-3 posters...and all are mods themselves. Do as I say... Kindly point the staff to some examples, and I'm sure Brian would be happy to take a look at the problem.
  19. Thanks for adding to the conversation. That comes off as pretty condescending, for what it's worth. I think Rillo made a fair point- the strike zone this weekend was jumping around quite a bit.
  20. and had only pitched 200 innings once in the last 5 years. While that's true, it's also very misleading, as he's been just below 200 IP in each of the other 4 years in the last 5 (197.7 in 2003, 188.0 in 2004, 196.7 in 2005, 192.7 in 2006, and 241.0 last year). In fact, he's never pitched less than 180.3 IP and 28 starts in his entire career so far. Greinke has never pitched more than 185 IP in a season yet, for the record.
  21. Wow, what a huge couple of defensive plays from Hardy and Weeks.
  22. Jim Wolf says he checked his swing, but Jim Wolf was wrong.
  23. Come on Ned, get somebody loose!
  24. It was puzzling to hear BA & Rock talk about how great McClung was on Friday during the game today. Considering that they appeared to remember only 3 of the 5 BBs, I guess that shouldn't surprise me. I think McClung was pretty great last night- He clearly hit the wall in the 7th, and that's where two of the walks and the HR was hit. Prior to the 7th, his line was 6IP, 0 Runs, 2 hits, and 3 BB's with 6 K's. That's really, really good.
