  1. Did you have your refund (assuming you had one) direct deposited, Schlitz? Otherwise, as I understand it, the only people to have received their stimulus paper checks so far are people with the last two digits of their SSN's ending in 00-18. Do you fall in that range?
  2. I don't see a college player available at #16 who'll be significantly quicker to the bigs. While you are very likely correct and I agree, no one last year would have predicted that even a very polished bay like LaPorta would be eying AAA after less than one full season of pro ball.
  3. He sorta looked confused, but shook my hand anyway. Confused in puzzled way, or confused in a 'why are you having me sign this brewerfan.net thong' sort of way?
  4. With Dick Martin passing away recently and now Harvey Korman, I'm saddened to wonder who the 3rd will be. . . Harvey might have been #3, if you include Sydney Pollack.
  5. He said Sunday. Branyan was 2 for 3 with a double and a walk with a run scored on Sunday.
  6. Harvey Korman passed today at age 81. http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/TV/05/29/korman.obit/index.html One of the participants in arguably the funniest sketch in TV history: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tao1WHjKAsc
  7. I wonder what Fleming's offers as a Vegetarian Option. Fillet Mignon with less meat content.
  8. I'll bet that bunt for the DP would have been awesome to see..... sigh.
  9. I think fans were more angry back in 1999 when they hung on to Nomo and Nilsson to "not give up on the season" when we all knew they were not coming back to Milwaukee than when they traded Lee for Cordero. If the Brewers are 8-10 games back at the end of July and the Brewers hang on to Sheets for the rest of the year to "not give up" and he walks at the end of the year, I'd imagine the fan reaction will be the same.
  10. Being proactive with an ace like Sheets was the way to go yet Melvin decided to let Sheets play it out in all likelihood costing us any shot of keeping him beyond this season. Come on now, let's not pretend that Sheets is without some serious issues- and if Sheets is determined to test the market this time around (which we have no way of knowing), it is probably in the team's best interest to see where we are in mid-July before deciding what needs to be done. Heck, this thread is pretty evenly split as to thoughts about re-signing Sheets, so to say that there was one specific "way to go" about this situation is completely unfair.
  11. I liked this song better when it was both a song by Warren Zevon and Lynyrd Skynyrd, not both songs smashed into one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYb1fDd0rB8 I hope the original artists were compensated for that horrible sampling.
  12. Coming off surgery, but never dominated in the minor leagues (as stated). Actually, I said: "who had dominated at AAA"- Cappy had a 2.72 ERA in AAA in 2002 and a 3.34 ERA in 2003, in the hitter-friendly PCL Pacific divisions. For reference, Gallardo put up a 2.90 ERA in the more pitcher-friendly American divisions of the PCL. Chad Moeller was never considered a promising catcher. He had a .852 OPS and a .770 OPS in his two full-ish seasons with Arizona. He wasn't going to be a world beater, but he certainly wasn't expected to put up the .568, .624, and .507 OPS' that he hit in his three seasons with Milwaukee. DeLaRosa was probably the key to the trade, but he just didn't pan out. I think that's probably accurate. If we'd have known at the time of the trade that Cappy would be the more effective of the two pitchers by far as we do now 5 years later, it would have been a pretty big surprise.
  13. Would be kinda funny taking advice from your brother who was way worse. Greg has always given Mike a lot of credit for his success, FWIW.
  14. But he wasn't really that good look what he did after we traded him. He didn't do anything after he was traded and if we did resign him during the off season everyone would have been saying that would have been one of the worst signings in Brewers history. He hit 50 HR and a .960 OPS in 1998, and 45 HR with a .882 OPS in 1999, and had another nice season in 2000. He certainly would have been a huge impact bat in addition to the likes of Burnitz, Jenkins, Vina, etc on those mediocre Brewers teams of the late 90s. But you're right that he had a horrible season in 1997 for whatever reason the year after the Brewers traded him.
  15. I think people are wrong to think DM screwed the D-backs, rather Sexson's injury did. Sure it did, and I think there's not a whole lot of people that would argue otherwise, I'd think. At the time, it was probably a fair trade for both sides, and now in retrospect, the D-Backs gave up a very large sum for 90 AB's.
  16. It is really going to suck if we lose Sheets after this year. He's the only pitcher that you're extremely confident will get you the win when he's on the mound.
  17. Full no trade clause. His brother is the pitching coach, I think he'd be thrilled to come here.
  18. You can't say that Sexson's production after the trade is irrelevant while at the same time criticizing the performance of the acquired players since the trade. It's not apples to apples. You have to look at their value at the time of the trade if you're going to look at Sexson's value at the time of the trade. At the time the trade happened, they got an All-Star 2nd baseman, one of the top pitching prospects in all of baseball, a young catcher that looked somewhat promising, a young lefty starter coming off TJ surgery who had dominated at AAA and a young first baseman that was Major League ready but unproven, and essentially a salary throw-in in Counsell. I'd say that at the time, it was a nice return on an All-Star 1B. Since that time, it's shown that Arizona lost the deal by default, and the Brewers have little left to show for it 6 years later, but for the first 1-4 years of the deal, it was a total steal for the Crew.
  19. Even an average starting pitcher has a lot of value (see the current Brewers if you doubt that claim), and Capuano was a legitimate all-star at one point, also under control for multiple years and at a bargain price. Yeah, Capuano was a legitimate #2 starter for us for his first few years in Milwaukee before the wheels came off last year for whatever reason. That in and of itself has probably made the trade worthwhile for the Brewers to this point.
  20. I think the biggest mistake that Melvin made in his tenure was not putting Weeks/Braun in the OF right away in the minors. To be fair, wouldn't that mainly be on Reid Nichols as director of the farm system?
  21. I haven't changed a setting on my TV since Saturday's games when the audio was fine, and didn't change them when it got much better late in the game last night.
  22. As a G.M. I'd say Taylor ranked somewhere between Matt Millen and Bando. Good Lord, who is the high end on that scale?
  23. Jenkins was a Bando pick.
  24. Hey, they finally fixed it in the 9th!
