  1. I'm pretty certain I will be in attendance as well. Things are a bit crazy with work right now, but I'm hoping things will be settled down by the 17th. Also, I have some extra Brewer bobbles for trade that I could bring if anyone is interested. I have an extra Uke nesting doll set and extra full-sized Hot Dog bobble if anyone would like them.
  2. Yep. But unfortunately I have a reason. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  3. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
  4. For the record, threads like this belong in the issues forum. I'm moving it there now.
  5. Well then, that's not how I do it, and I'm fairly sure that's not how it works most of the time. Not sure which mod you were speaking with, but I think the general policy is to avoid deletion/editing unless there's swearing involved.
  6. Namecalling and such is almost never edited/deleted unless there's swearing or vulgarity. Simply calling someone a 'smart ass' or 'moron' like there was in another thread today will usually get just a message in-thread or private message. Posts are deleted or edited quite rarely and as a last resort, unless it's something blatant.
  7. I think the Globe is just mentioning us because of our interest a month ago: The Rangers, Padres, and Brewers are three teams that have kicked the tires on Phillies veteran righty Jon Lieber. Yeah, we expressed interest at some point, but the article doesn't say how recently it was. I think it's still from the rumors at the Winter Meetings, but that's just IMO.
  8. i think maybe he's referring to the alexis rios trade proposed in the first message Yep. I'd love to have Rios, but I think that we'd have to give up more than CV, Capellan, and Clark to get him, and that still leaves us with a Jenkins/Mench too many in the OF.
  9. I don't think we'd make any kind of deal for an outfielder until we rid ourselves of our 1-2 extra ones that we already have on the roster first.
  10. From that link: Milwaukee Brewers general manager Doug Melvin confirmed this morning that he made a four-year offer to free-agent pitcher Jeff Suppan during a meeting earlier in the week in Los Angeles with Suppan and his agent, Scott Leventhal. That meeting was held at the home of Brewers owner Mark Attanasio, who took part in the discussion. Bringing the player in to meet at the owner's house seems interesting. Probably can't hurt. And they met for FIVE HOURS on Tuesday? What in the world do you talk about for five hours?
  11. This place is virtually in Sun Prairie, but a Madison address here means non-smoking, correct?
  12. This story has gone from the surgery should be minor and they expect Rogers to pitch in 2007 to it seems likely he will miss all of 2007. I'm guessing that second opinion the first story talked about didn't go as well as hoped. I'm definitely not shocked, and I think most of us were pretty much of the opinion that if he did have shoulder surgery, that he'd be missing the 2007 season, despite what Gord said in the first article. Beyond that, hopefully Mark bounces back and has some sort of career ala Parra, but the odds don't look good right now.
  13. I personally think he's better tahn Mr. Genius Melvin's other annoited targets for the position (Roberts/Tavaras). I personally think this entire thing is a figment of someone's imagination, as there's still nothing to support this thread at all.
  14. Is Miller Park really a good homer park, or will it look fairly average after 15 years of play? It's still essentially a good HR park (or at least a park where you want ground-ball types vs. fly-ball pitchers), but runs/non-HR slugging wise it's almost completely neutral, and almost exactly neutral overall.
  15. Peavey - Does anyone take into account that pitching staffs themselves play a role in formulating the Park Factor number? I know PF fluctuates from year to year (but I don't know by how much). What about teams that just have a lotta guys who give up round trippers or doubles or BBs and give up big innings? I suppose it's kind of a chicken and the egg-type thing- do the pitchers have bad numbers because of the park, or does the park give up lots of runs because of the pitchers? But I'm fairly certain it was considered a pretty extreme hitters park even with Johnson/Schilling/Webb in their rotation, so I'd say that's a good sign that it's not the pitchers. I did find three-year weighted park adjustments (2003-2005) at the Baseball Think Tank, which confirms that Arizona is about the 3rd-4th best hitters park in baseball, so that at least shows some consistency, as they were also 4th overall in 2006: www.baseballthinkfactory....2003_2005/
  16. That's your opinion Peavey, but that's hardly grounds for "lock to make the team." Fair enough. But I guess you could turn right around and also say that I'm not convinced that Sarfate or Turnbow are locks to make the team either. If Dennis Sarfate pitches awesome in spring training, they're just going to let him walk huh? No, they'd probably keep 12 pitchers. I just don't see how the Brewers could/would go into the season with Sarfate instead of Helling as the only upgrade/change in an otherwise dismal bullpen from 2006. Now Sarfate instead of Helling and Aquino instead of Kolb looks much nicer, at least on paper. Anyway, back to this Taveras stuff. Anyone actually found anything to support this rumor at all?
  17. You tell me how Greg Aquino is a LOCK to make the team. Sure. Villanueva is either in the rotation or in AAA. I'd call that a lock. That leaves 7 pitchers there, all of whom make the team if they do take 12 pitchers. I'd frankly be shocked if they took only 11 pitchers, but if they do and all those players are still healthy/on the roster, Aquino makes the team over Sarfate. The organization and coaches don't seem sold on him. That said, he will make the team because at least one of those guys will be hurt in coming out of the gates. So as the team stands now, Aquino is essentially a lock. Every one of those pitchers listed above had better than a 4.47 ERA save Turnbow Adjusted for the fact that Miller plays neutral while Chase is a top hitters park, Aquino had a better 2006 season than Turnbow, Capellan, and Sarfate's limited innings from that list. And that's not even taking the possibility the Brewers might find pick up another reliever or two before the season starts. I think that's quite a possibility, which is why I said that my feeling Aquino is a lock is based on the current team. I'm also not convinced that we won't see Turnbow moved at some point in the offseason either. As far as Taveras goes, just the reported interest by Melvin is both frustrating and puzzling to say the least. As of yet, nothing has been reported other than one person's post on this message board. No link or story can be found to confirm anything regarding an interest by the Brewers in Taveras. Considering that the Brewers already have 6+ OF's for the 25-man roster, this 'rumor' makes very little sense.
  18. Greg Aquino isn't a lock to make the team in my opinion. I'm not sure how a guy who put up a 4.47 ERA in the 4th best hitters park in baseball isn't an upgrade to what we had in our bullpen last year. Care to provide your reasoning for thinking that he won't even make the team? And unless you really think Claudio Vargas' best year of his career and Doug Davis' worst year since joining the Brewers is the norm, I really can't see where the Brewers improved their pitching as of right now. Davis has been regressing for the last couple of seasons. As it has been mentioned over and over and over and over and over since the trade was made, if Davis bounces back, we took a big step down in the rotation. But if he continues to decline or even pitches at the same level he did last year, than Vargas is better. And here I thought this was a thread about Willy Taveras.
  19. When a pitcher is bad enough that poor defense can lead to him having a 5.00 ERA, he isn't worth $10 million a year. Has there been anything to show that he'd have a 5.00 ERA, or is that just some random number?
  20. This "shopping list", if true (Suppan, Crisp, Taveras, etc.) is scary. As of now, Crisp and Taveras have only been mentioned on this board as potential targets, and nothing has been mentioned in the media. Suppan is the only one that Melvin has actually mentioned.
  21. Except for the move where his defense at catcher went down and his pitching got worse. Except that the bullpen actually got better, the rotation got no worse at all if Davis doesn't rebound, and the fact that Estrada is better defensively than Rivera. Otherwise, you're right on. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif With nothing out there reporting this 'rumor', I'm thinking this isn't more than speculation on someone's part.
  22. not really. We know from reports (and on the BoSox own site) that they still want to find a closer. As rotoworld said, their pen is starting to get crowded. I'd imagine they'll look at the committee, or just give it to one of the guys. Neither of these guys is a closer Neither is Turnbow as of now. Until he shows any signs of recovery, expecting him to close games again isn't a certainty.
  23. Yeah, Donnelly and Romero to Boston pretty much squashes anything regarding Turnbow to the Red Sox this offseason.
  24. Not as good as Doug Davis of '04 & '05, but better than Davis of last year. Actually, adjusted for park effects, Suppan was better than Davis in 05, FWIW. And much better than 06 Davis like you said.
  25. So why didn't we just resign Davis for 3/21, a crapload cheaper than 4/45 or whatever Suppan would take. Well, that 3/21 number was being discussed prior to any of the free agent signings this year. I'd be shocked if Davis would have re-signed for that at this point in time, as he'd get at least what Lilly got in free agency. Also, unlike Suppan, Davis actually did have a serious blip last year performance-wise.
