  1. Sorry I didnt explain better - my point was that in order to obtain Crawford we would likely have to give up a player of Hall's ability. No problem, thanks for the clarification. While we might have to give up someone of Hall's ability, it would likely be in prospect form. Most likely an arm like Gallardo. Now, prospects are no sure thing, so we could be giving up the next John Smoltz, or the next Nick Neugebauer. I think we're at the point where the upgrade that a bat like Crawford would provide might be legitimately worth a prospect or two.
  2. Crawford would be nice - but is he honestly that much better than Hall? Not sure why that's a question, as it's not like Crawford would be replacing Hall. EDIT: The point being, the Brewers need to get better at any position possible to be offensively competitive.
  3. I would absolutely trade Yo for the likes of Crawford or an extended Vernon Wells.
  4. 164? Craig Counsell is one popular guy. Or really hated. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  5. Sandwich picks are based upon the player's rating. According to the old system (and colby), that's not true, unless it was specifically changed in the new CBA: as long as the compensatory pick system in the sandwich round remains the same (meaning the worst teams get the highest pick, cycling through all of the teams one-by-one before starting over again for teams with mulitple comp picks), the Brewers could get the 5th pick in the sandwich long assuming Type B free agent Tomo Ohka signs elsewhere.... So, as long as these rules haven't changed, the Brewers could be looking at the 7th and the 35th overall picks next June, and exciting situation that we haven't seen the Brewers have in quite some time.
  6. You'd have to think that if we really wanted Ohka back, that we could probably beat out the Pirates if we wanted to.
  7. I doubt it's the same price, as CC is probably 1-2 million cheaper than Graffy per year.
  8. Already being discussed here: p092.ezboard.com/fbrewers...1968.topic
  9. There's another thread about this going on in the Majors, I don't know which should be the keeper... Since it's still a rumor, I'm going with this one.
  10. That link refers to a report older than Rosenthal's rumor about the Brewers, which was apparently false.
  11. So we're taking some random guy's blog from Fox Sports as fact? Pardon my skepticism at a source with 'Plummer to Green Bay?' as one of it's top "rumors".
  12. I think as our roster stands now, your pitching staff is about right, BaseballGod.
  13. Yes please. If they're willing to trade Penny, he jumps to #1 on my Christmas wish list. I'd imagine we're have to offer something of value with Jenkins as well.... an arm like Jackson perhaps? I'd still be all over that, and pick up as much of Jenkins' salary as necessary.
  14. Moving to the issues forum.....
  15. About the only thing Buck really has going for him is that he's young. Otherwise, he's been bad with the bat, and mediocre with the glove. He's never really lived up to his hype/potential, and I'm not sure he's an upgrade at this point.
  16. I just don't see Greg Zaun as someone who's going to make a real difference for the Brewers without a host of other issues getting sorted out and resolved. Oh, I agree completely. I doubt anyone here is actually claiming or thinking that Zaun is the missing piece of the Brewers' playoff puzzle or anything like that, but anytime you can upgrade any position, no matter how small-moderate that upgrade might be in this case, you definitely have to consider it, even if it's not the 5th (and possibly 4th) starter that we need, or the bopping bat we're looking for, etc.
  17. Comparing someone to Hitler isn't really a good idea, no matter what the context (and yes, I know you meant it in jest).
  18. He'll be 35 next April and if they sign him to a substantial contract, he'd be expected to play at least 75% of the time. I don't think that's necessarily true. When Miller was signed to his deal, he essentially split time with Moeller 60/40. So I'd imagine something similar would be likely with Zaun. Frankly, I don't think at 35, he'd put up anything close to a .825 OPS playing that often. He had 338 AB's (107 games caught) in 2004 and put up a .760 OPS. He did wear down in 2005 a bit, catching 133 games for .728. Still, even that .728 number is such an upgrade from where we started even 2006 with a Miller/Moeller platoon it's scary. Rivera was fantastic last year, but it's hard to judge that performance. He was great in 142 AB's, but in his previous 200-ish MLB AB's he was quite horrible. I'm definitely not opposed to the idea of three catchers at this point, as it would provide PHing/PRing options for Yost later in games, and Miller has shown that he's pretty much due for some DL time every season, and can really only be counted on for 250-300 ish AB's a season, if that at this point.
  19. Gregg Zaun would be such a great addition it'd be scary. .825 OPS out of a catcher? Yes, please. He's outperformed even Miller's numbers five of the seven seasons in the 2000s.
  20. Yeah, some of them are auto filtered. But that word should be as well, FYI. Not a real big deal, just don't use it anymore.
  21. They made offers to both Lee and Soriano on Thursday, so I won't be surprised to see them land one or the other. EDIT: The article basically says "folks around baseball" feel that the Astros have the inside track on signing Lee. (Moved to the rumors forum as it isn't official yet)
  22. Yeah, I understand the front loading thing (and the investment returns, assuming of course that's what he does with some of it), but Boras seems to be banking on Drew being able to sign a deal for at least 3 million in 2008, and considering his history, that's not a sure thing. Trading a two-year deal for a three-year deal is not how Boras usually rolls. That said, I'd imagine that this is just another rumor, and I'll believe it when I see it. EDIT: And considering that it's coming from Tracy Ringlosby and the Rocky Mountain News, it's about as questionable as can be.
  23. Does this not make sense to anyone else? Drew opts out of his deal with the Dodgers to sign a deal with less guaranteed? That doesn't seem to be how Boras works, normally.
  24. Yeah, that's the only thing that makes any sense. I am somewhat surprised that it managed to escape us, though.
  25. which seemed to me to speak of Japanese pitchers in general. Which is an incorrect assumption. I said that I wasn't sure if Nomo was a free agent or an 'exclusive bid' guy, and probably should have phrased that differently. Plus, how many exclusive rights guys have there even been? 4? 5? Even that many? That's exactly my question. It's too small of a sample to make broad judgments. Possibly, but at some point you have to have one that is successful to actually justify the absurd amounts spent just to talk to the guy. The two 'exclusive' guys that I'm absolutely aware of in Ishii and Irabu were both colossal disappointments after being billed as top of the line, can't miss pitchers. So far to the best of my knowledge, it's only been a huge waste of money for the teams 'lucky' enough to win the bidding.
