  1. that is debatable.. what isn't is since the beginning of last year I was talking about last year. If Jenks wasn't worth 8 million, then Carlos certainly wasn't either.
  2. It'd be really nice if Yount would PH for Gross with Hart here.
  3. Then only send him paychecks during the second half of the year. So is Carlos going to send back the Brewers' money that he received while sucking after the All-Star break last year as well?
  4. If you take his full year stats the brewers did not get $8 million worth of production. Then they didn't get $8 million worth of production out of Carlos either, and some people here are still willing to bump his pay up to 11-13 million. That is all fine and good when the brewers are out of the race. The Brewers were out of the race last year? We entered September a handful of games out of the wildcard. Jenkins was hitting, and in the meantime Carlos Lee was MIA. Instead of thinking that it's when the Brewers are out of the race, can you realize how valuable that will be when the Brewers are legitimately in the playoff hunt in the next few years?
  5. i cannot stand jenkins. his stats are smoke and mirrors. Just keep that in mind when he's carrying the team in the 2nd half of the year. Nice to see Capellan get out of it unscathed here.
  6. Good grief.... can our bullpen not suck, please?
  7. So who do they bring in? My odds: 50% Villanueva 30% Winkelsas 20% Simpson My Odds: Capellan 100%.
  8. That's about as much of Bush as I'm prepared to deal with for the day.
  9. Ah... man alive, our defense sucks.
  10. Man, Bush is really big on the whole 'giving it right back' thing today. Not a great outing so far.
  11. Okay, let's get another solo home run.. Good call. Seems to be the MO today.
  12. I see we're playing that fun game where we get a run back and then Bush gives it back up the next half inning.
  13. Would have been MUCH happier with Bush actually bunting there, instead of hitting into a double play.
  14. Down 2 early in the game? We've got them right where we want them. If we were up, I'd be scared.
  15. Sooner or later it will also be determined that Hall has too low of an OBP to hit 2nd. Maybe at the same time it's determined that the #3 hitter that has a lower OBP than Hall shouldn't be hitting there either?
  16. While starting Hart is the popular choice, I can see why Gross is getting PT. He's more of a natural CF, and Ned likes to play the lefty/righty matchups fairly close to by the book. I imagine Hart starts vs. LHP, and Gross vs. RHP.
  17. Ack.... how big does that crapfest last night look? Could have been headed for the sweep tomorrow.
  18. Last word is that he was still being evaluated. Daron and Bill said they'd pass along any info they get, and that's been it so far.
  19. I don't know if I've seen a pitcher and catcher on two totally different pages like Marquis and Bennett seem to be tonight.
  20. Raising the payroll is necessary to win in the MLB....The 2006 payroll by team listing is most telling! But teams like the A's and Twins are/were able to win with payrolls that were in our range. Care to explain how the Reds with a payroll that is a whopping 3 million more than ours and ranked 22nd in MLB are winning the toughest division in baseball, and why the Cubs who are ranked 7th are sucking? And with the Angels spending all that money, surely they couldn't possibly finish last in their division like they currently are, right? Afterall, they've got the 3rd highest payroll.
  21. Jose Hernandez is not a star ... spending money for the sake of spending money is not what I'm talking about ... you are mischaracterizing things, again. Ok, who exactly should the Brewers have spent money on last year that they could have signed? I'm talking about retaining guys who are achieving star status (i.e., Carlos Lee) Signing Carlos Lee would be spending money just to spend money, as Carlos is a pretty mediocre corner OF. Carlos Lee is a proven star hitter in the league. Sub 'proven star hitter' for 'proven .830 OPS corner OF' and you've got it. then pursuing more stars in the off-season free agent market Ok, then what 'stars' do you want us to pursue in this coming off-season market?
  22. I'm feeling good about this game, surprisingly. If we had a lead, I'd be scared to death. But since we're losing, we've got them right where we want them.
  23. I'll not dignify your Craig Counsell for Weeks/etc. reference ... that is not what I said at all. Why not? It'd raise the payroll, so it'd HAVE to make the team more successful according to your rationale, right?
  24. Actually, the Seligs had a payroll more in line with other teams' payrolls some years ago. Going from 28th to 25th spot in the MLB in terms of spending is not significant at all! So based on your argument, the only mark of a franchises' hope for success and the only way to rate an owner is based on where their payroll ranks amongst the others in the league. Gotcha.
