  1. So your plan is to package a bunch of crap and expect pure quantity (again, of crap) to return a needle-mover? If so, it’s not surprising you’re disappointed with every move the Brewers make.
  2. He's a DH only, though. I'd be very cautious as to how much of his offensive contribution would be wiped out by bad defense, ala Khris Davis or Domingo Santana.
  3. Well, the modern statistical metrics that are available to us that rank him vs. his peers graded him as solidly average. You're looking at an individual stat sheet, and individual stat items that can be helpful as part of evaluation, but not great in grading his overall performance relative to the rest of the league. Anyway, this is my last post on the subject. You can oddly die on this hill if you wish, but history has clearly shown that all of the red flags I identified were indeed indicative of future problems.
  4. Jose Ramirez WOULD be one of the top bats on the market, if not THE top bat.
  5. I suspect if we brought in Gallo, we'd ask him to play 1b. We have pretty good defenders out there and nobody that plays 1b for us can hit. It seems a bit wasteful to use him there, but plugging Gallo at 1b makes the lineup so much better. He's so strong he'd get some Adam Dunn type hr here, where he'd clearly get under it but dude is so strong it carries over the short porch in RF. I'd assume you're right for the remainder of 2021. For 2022, I'd imagine he would take one of the outfield spots, assuming Garcia is gone.
  6. I mean, he could just have been here to watch the Bucks win a title. If it was a random game a month ago, maybe I'd think there was more to it.
  7. I believe 1B/3B was where Gallo played coming up. He's not a 3B anymore, but he graded out well at 1B. They're using him in the OF because he's really, really good out there.
  8. I guess a fair counterpoint would be that just because fans think it matters doesn't mean that front offices do.
  9. Because Badger Basketball would be in between the Packers and Bucks.
  10. All of those names make sense, but cost is the real question.
  11. Yeah, there were a lot of contributors that were bad in one game, but crucial in others. Pat was bad last night, but he certainly helped them win the series.
  12. [sarcasm]The Brewers cut their 2019 opening day starter later in the same season. Clearly got a poor return for their #1.[/sarcasm] Seriously though, the Pirates paid the cost to acquire a #1 who actually pitched like a #3 (And actually, like a #5 in the season they traded for him). That's textbook mismanagement, IMO. The Rays sold high on an asset that seemed to show signs of declining, and the Pirates bought high on same asset. Basically indicative of how well/poorly both of those orgs have been run respectively over the past several seasons.
  13. Probably so. I think both side still know that they're married for 2021 regardless, and still represent both sides' best chance to win a title. After 2021, though, I'm equally certain the Packers are/would be interested in moving on.
  14. Absolutely correct. I don't know if either can be called any kind of a 'favorite' like the Bucks may have been at various points this year, but there is absolutely a chance that the Brewers or Packers could win it this year.
  15. Rumors I've heard were that it would have made him the highest paid QB in the league again, which is supposedly what he wants. Completely unverifiable absent someone with actual knowledge of the real offer confirming, but that would suggest that this wasn't just a token/paper extension.
  16. Might as well start a new thread, asking the same question
  17. A little surprised that Frelick was slightly over slot.
  18. Good point. But he also knows that his treatment of the fans and his teammates also directly impacts his legacy. Does it? Favre pretty did whatever he could to tarnish it, and he was welcomed back into the family. If this thing does go south in the next few weeks, it will take some time, but he will be back in the family with his number retired. It'll happen in due time, absolutely, from a fan standpoint at least. But this one feels a little harsher/different, doesn't it? The Favre one resolved mutually. I'm not entirely convinced that Aaron won't take his ball and go home (metaphorically), then refuse to come back. Dude is an EPIC grudge-holder.
  19. If you think Archer was a #1 starter at the time the Pirates acquired him, than we will have to agree to disagree. He had basically been an average SP his previous two seasons in Tampa, and was slightly below average to date in the season he was acquired. Despite his age, he was three years removed from his last truly 'great' season, and now (with the benefit of hindsight), his career arc was already in the declining phase. Lots of red flags. If you think that's entirely with hindsight, there's likely a now buried Archer thread in the Rumors forum documenting many of these concerns from that time. Yep, that sums it up better than I was.
  20. I really can't view that 2018 situation and their moves as anything other than mismanagement. They traded significant assets for players who, especially in Archer's case, had significant questions about them, and all to chase a pipedream chance at the playoffs. They undoubtedly bungled away some of their window as a result.
  21. I think this is right, and likely the reoccurring theme of their deadline speculation. Turang seems like the likely headliner of a big or big-ish move. The Brewers' system lacks OF depth, so I'd only move Mitchell in a mega deal, and even then I'd do everything I could to keep him from being included....
